Despite the rocky launch of the PC version, the PlayStation 3 version of Final Fantasy XIV is far from cancelled. An interview with producer Naoki Yoshida, published by the official Final Fantasy XIV community team, confirms that the PS3 version of the game will come.

“Of course,” said Yoshida, asked if the PS3 version is still underway. “Development is proceeding, do not worry! The PS3 version will come out at all costs.”

Many had doubted the PlayStation 3 version’s release due to the game’s less than stellar PC launch. Looks like there’s no need to worry.

Two versions of the interview were conducted — one in English and one in French. The French interview included the PS3 question.

What, like FF Versus XIII is going to come?

I'd say that, given the PC version was so absolutely shit, there is more than adequate need to worry. Are they going to fix all of the bugs? What new bugs are going to pop up due to the change in platform and interface, as well? What about paying a fee, is that still going to happen? What sort of time frame are we looking at here for the release?

Honestly, they should have just put this on the PS3 from the beginning. There are more than enough MMORPGs on the PC, adding another one is hardly going to make an impact.

Although to be honest, I would prefer FFXI on PS3, since I actually want to play that...

I don't really see the point in Final Fantasy XIV being released on the PS3 anyway. Even when it is released not that many people will end up playing it, all the Final Fantasy fans who've followed the game know how shit it was on the PC which is its main platform, and I don't think there's a huge fanbase for MMORPGs on the console. It all seems a waste of time really.

I Was never really excited for Final Fantasy XIV. I Was excited at one point for the PS III version because I thought it would not require a monthly fee. It seems it will as it is an MMORPG. Some people might buy this and some may not. XIV on PC had a lot of problems from what I heard. Now if that occurs with the PS3... it will only be worse. I mean now they still talk about XI and all... when XIV is "coming at all costs". It might stop some XI players... or it may not do that at all.

No need to worry? Who was worrying? There's a need to worry now, when it's still not canceled.

In my opinion, IF they were smart, they would cut their losses with XIV on the ps3 and move on...and put their efforts into games that people aren't already weary of purchasing before they've even come out. After all of the problems they've had with the pc version how many people do they think are honestly still clawing the walls to play the ps3 version? SE hasn't been making smart choices for awhile now. Their games are all screwed up and going out of sync because they have too many side projects and sequels on the side and because of that the quality of these projects is lacking because they probably don't have enough manpower to properly make these games and actually put some thought and effort into them...and what their FANBASE wants. Some might be silly enough to still want XIV on the ps3 after their failure of a pc version...but I don't see many wanting a musical Final Fantasy game with a chibi Cloud and Lightning.

After next week anyone who has played the game probably won't even recognize it anymore. They've spent the last 3-4 months developing content and making major changes. The first overhaul patch goes live next week.

Big things on the list for this patch 1.18:
Combat overhaul, complete skill re-balancing.
Overhaul of the emnity system
Elimination of the stamina system
Introduction of an auto-attack system for basic attacks
Repair system Streamlined.
The introduction of Grand Companies
Introduction of Instanced dungeons.
Adjustments to Death Penalties
Introduction of new tiers of Raise spells, each with different effects.
Beginning of UI enhancements, and customization ability for Keyboard users.
Abolishment of the "surplus" experience system that penalized long periods of play.
Craft recipe major adjustments

Confirmed Incoming:

Battle against Ifrit 1.19
Introduction of the new Job System 1.20 or 1.21
Implementation of Chocobos 1.19
Implementation of Airships 1.19
Stat allocation system redesign. 1.19/1.20
Craft system streamlining overhaul
Introduction of Job specific Gear
Map redesign of Major territories.
Implementation of a crafted weapon augment system. Dubbed "Materia" by Yoshi-P (unsure if its a summer project of fall, but its been talked about a lot.

1.19 and 1.20 are to be completed before the end of summer.

The game is far from dead, and all kinds of players have started returning to the game. They some kind of resolve to fix this game that I have never seen from SE. They are listening to the players and giving us what we are asking for, while still maintaining original ideas from development in order to not make the game a clone.

Yet I still wonder how and why Square Enix allowed themselves to release the game in the state it was in back late last year for the PC. If such renovations, patches and overhauls are that extensive, surely they'd have recognised that it was fundamentally not that great of an idea to release it as it was. The only thing I can shake it down to is the frantic need to get it out the doors before the competition, which raises the other important point. In a market this saturated by now and with a lot of strong competition that undoubtedly have a more refined kind of expertise in handling MMOs than SE, was it a good idea to make another MMO? I've no doubt that they've done much to improve it since, but is it a little too late now? First impressions do matter a lot and even if it finds more success on the PS3, the average player bar the very hardcore FFers would think more than twice before parting with their money for a game that had originally been so botched up that it was labelled the "worst FF game yet".

Too late for the PC Release? Perhaps. I have this strange feeling that they will be going really hard at the PS3 release once it's ready. I expect a pretty decent PR campaign building up to it. Until that time they are working with the community to address the issues.

I think FFXIV was a wake-up call that the FF brand name is more than just that, a brand name. The release was purely an upper management issue, I highly doubt the developers wanted to release the game in the state it was in. SE has released numbered titles that have been the subject of controversy before, but never have had a title flop like FFXIV did upon release. The fact that they still do not charge for the game speaks volumes at the effort they are putting in to fix the game. They still have a full development team working on it, as opposed to a maintenance / content team.

I hope FF14 has changed for the better...a immersive FF mmorpg is something Ive always dreamed about especially with chocobos....but I get the feeling ps3 cant handle it quite as a pc...I dont give a shit about graphics as long as the servers are lag free and it must be on the same servers as on the pc......monthly free meh but who knows and copy paste terrain is a no NO! Im still considering depends on the outcome....

The original concept of a Guildleve focused game was officially deemed "no longer the primary focus" of FFXIV. The new focus is creating evolving content.

To show this, the previous party bonuses for Guildleve missions are being removed starting in 1.18. Bonuses are instead being transferred to a completion of Guildleves. The intention is to make them a solo-player's content. Group play will be geared towards dungeon content, and mission based things. This is being started also in 1.18.
