You Can Play Final Fantasy XIII-2 With Japanese Voiceovers And English Text, Too

By Cheng Kai . October 12, 2011 . 6:00pm

… or Chinese text, for that matter. Sony Computer Entertainment Hong Kong announced today that they will release a version of Final Fantasy XIII-2 with Japanese voiceovers and all text and menus rendered in your choice of English or Traditional Chinese, thanks to a partnership between Sony Computer Entertainment Asia and Square Enix.

And like with Dissidia 012[duodecim]: Final Fantasy, the English/Chinese edition will allow you to import save data from both the English and Japanese versions of Final Fantasy XIII.
The English/Chinese edition will hit stores in Asia on January, 31 2012, the same day Final Fantasy XIII-2 arrives in North America.

“I am glad to be able to bring Final Fantasy XIII-2 to the Asian region. Final Fantasy XIII was our first release in both Chinese and Korean, but it was about a year behind the Japanese release," producer Yoshinori Kitase said in the press release. "However, this time we are able to get this game into your hands with only a month or so of lag."

In the meantime, if you’re curious to see how Serah and Noah’s names are supposed to be read in Mandarin, log in to the Asian PlayStation Store today to find a new trailer of the game with Chinese subtitles.

Reserve Final Fantasy XIII-2 To Get Omega Boss Battle Or A Hardcover Art Book

By Spencer . October 3, 2011 . 9:34am

Square Enix confirmed that Omega will be available in North America, but unlike Japan the coliseum boss battle will be distributed as pre-order downloadable content in the States.

Pre-order Final Fantasy XIII-2 from Amazon and you’ll get the Omega Boss Battle as downloadable content. Gamestop is giving away an alternate costume for Serah, but Best Buy may have the grand prize. The electronics retailer is giving out hardcover copies of Final Fantasy XIII – Episode i –, previously a Japan only novella that connects the events between Final Fantasy XIII and its sequel.

These incentives are different from Japan, which include a life stealing bow for Serah and special swords for Noel as downloadable content. No news about Noel’s extra outfit either or if fans will be able to buy the Omega boss battle post-launch.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 comes out on January 31, 2012 in North America.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 Will Have Monthly DLC, But No Swimsuits

By Spencer . October 11, 2011 . 5:00pm

While Final Fantasy XIII didn’t have any downloadable content, Final Fantasy XIII-2 will have a ton. Producer Yoshinori Kitase told Dengeki PlayStation their plan is to have one to two updates a month over several consecutive months. Kitase didn’t say how much each item would cost, but said the price will be balanced for the value of the content.

Players will be able to purchase new weapons, costumes, and monsters for use in Final Fantasy XIII-2. Kitase stressed that there would be gameplay mixed in. For example, you may have to defeat a monster to obtain an item. Kitase also said costumes and weapons will be displayed during event scenes. The development team is currently working on this.

Dengeki PlayStation asked a question about swimsuits and school uniform costumes. Director Motomu Toriyama answered it and said these kinds of outfits would be unbalanced for the game’s scenes.

A bunch of Final Fantasy XIII-2 downloadable content has been announced such as: a life stealing bow for Serah, a sword with a haste-like effect for Noel, a diva microphone, and Final Fantasy series ultra boss Omega. Square Enix will release the Omega boss battle or a special costume for Serah as pre-order DLC in North America.

Oh no, I'm sure Aya Brea getting all those skimpy costumes and the nauseating levels of fan service in the The 3rd Birthday definitely "balanced" things out in that game while essentially subverting her character from the first two games and making her submissive all of a sudden just so she can squeeze into a maid outfit or something and not seem as weird. So what were you saying just before, Toriyama?

Well, good anyway. The thought of Lightning in a swimsuit when she's several times manlier than Noel could have been horrific, and not to mention the fact that it wouldn't be too appropriate for her butch character. But still, what the hell is up with this obsession over swimsuit costumes? Please say the magazine was kidding or something. I've seen swimsuit costumes in Tales of Xillia as demanded by fans and you have 12 and 15 year old female characters in all sorts of outfits and not just swimsuits, portrayed in the perhaps the most loli-kind of way possible. I know this is probably nothing new at all, but it's utterly depressing.

Hmm the Chinese version with English text is only for PS3. Although it's not probable, I wish there's one for xbox too. But as much as I like Japanese voices, English voice is fine too. So not a big deal for me.

Lol at funny comic strip.

Listen to the epicness of Liam O'Brien and put up with what is otherwise the shittest voice cast in existence, or forgo Liam O'Brien and put up with a so-so Japanese voice cast? Decisions, decisions...

You know, I WAS curious about this! I'm SO glad my questions have finally been answered! :yay:

You need a mini novel to connect XIII and XIII-2 together? Oh, what fun trying to shift through the train-wreck that constitutes a plot this will be if you don't have it, then.

Dengeki PlayStation asked a question about swimsuits and school uniform costumes. Director Motomu Toriyama answered it and said these kinds of outfits would be unbalanced for the game’s scenes.
Amusingly, those are probably the only costumes that fans really wanted, because nothing says "FAP FAP FAP" like swimsuit costumes. As a pre-emptive strike, for anyone complaining about this lack of swimsuit costumes: go play Ar Tonelico Qoga, that'll more than satisfy your urges to see characters wear so little clothing that they might as well not have any on. It's not like XIII-2 has any characters worth staring at besides Gaius anyway, and if you stare at him for too long you'll develop an inferiority complex. Seeing him a swimsuit costume would likely have a similar effect to what that Electronic Hero Porygon episode of Pokemon had in Japan.

Although that said, I would loooooove to see an official Lightning outfit for Cloud...uh, I mean, Cloud outfit for Lightning. Yes, that is TOTALLY what I meant. I also want a Vayne outfit for Gaius and a hooded full-length robe for Serah, because her jailbait body offends me beyond words. I'd also like to see Hope wear something that is actually colour co-ordinated, and not something that would make even a homeless man cringe. If they release some good costumes, XIII-2 might actually be playable...when drunk. You could pretend that the characters have character!

But then, Lightning in a swimsuit...ugh. That's like trying to imagine Gordon Brown in a swimsuit, isn't it Liv Liv?

Anyone else think Snow looks like a bad FFVII cosplayer in that? It's like he wants to cosplay both Cloud and Sephiroth but couldn't make his mind up, so he just went as Cloudyroth or something.

Ah so it appears that they are different versions? Ah well I think I will still just be buying the North American Version. It would have been cool if things like this were implemented into the NA/EU version though. As much as I love the Japanese voices, I would like to play the sequel in English just like the first game. It could be like Star Ocean TLH international. Good that there will be no swimsuit DLC though. The magazine asked about it because obviously people think seeing Lightning in a swimsuit, or Serah would be hot. I do not know about hot, but I would probably be scared. Serah's outfit is bad enough.. and the last thing we need to see is her older sister in a swimsuit. Duh, Lightning is too badass for swimsuits. How long will it be till these exclusive offers go on XBL/PSN? Oh I do not know.. but since gamestop is where I usually go, Ill get the costume for Serah.

FFXIII-2 has too much pink & thats not my thang.....xD
Monthly dlc hmmmmm.....good thing or worth complaining about.

Original va's are always better..especially for anime, but not all subbed are better than the dubbed..so always is a big word.

Swimsuits & School uniforms would sell like cupcakes but kill the authentic aspect...
So KUDOS SE!

Bigggest mystery whut kind of brah has Serah on? Seems none at all, but no nipples either? Seems major flawwed design to me or am I missin sumthin ?????????
