Square exec expresses discomfort with E3 lineup

Square Enix’s lineup at E3 this year, for the most part, wasn’t Square. The major titles at this year’s showing included Tomb Raider, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and Hitman: Absolution — all properties of Eidos, which Square Enix owns. The only title from the firm’s Japanese roots was Final Fantasy XIII-2. According to Koji Taguchi, a senior executive officer at Square Enix Holdings, the lack of Japanese titles was “almost humiliating.”

“Because we merged with Eidos and had games like Tomb Raider, Deus and Hitman, as a company we were able to keep face,” said Taguchi on Twitter. “But the decline in Japanese titles was almost humiliating. This has been a week where I worried daily about how we can fix this.”

Square’s Japanese teams are currently busy developing Final Fantasy Versus XIII for PlayStation 3 and Final Fantasy Type-0 for PSP. The pair did not appear at E3.

It was to be expected actually. No versus XIII or Type-0 at E3 was a real shame.

i was very annoyed at the fact that versus XIII and Type-0 didn't get shown at E3..... you could of have at least announced psp remasters :hmph: once again square has failed the fans and i'm not happy :mokken:

Yeah, that is kind of true.FFXIII-2 was the only Japanese game to feature. But not only was it the only one, but it was a sequel to arguably last years most dissapointing game.

And Versus XIII not making the show is dissapointing as well, but its just typical of SE to piss us off like that.

But anyways just in case, I was happy to see FFXIII-2 and I did like FFXIII.

I was happy with what I saw of XIII-2, but that's it. Honestly, I saw more Japanese in the Square Enix booth at the MCM Expo in May, and even that was somewhat disappointing.

I'm mixed on the merge as a whole, I have little interest in any of games Eidos have made, and just because is in the West, it doesn't mean we want to see Western games. We expect to see games that that originate from Japan froma Japanese developer.

I WANT MORE INFO ON TYPE-O, DAMMIT :rage:

Oh I know, I was looking forward to perhaps a special Nomura "Ohai guys! I am actually here and ready for a surprise showing of Versus and Type-0, the latter we are proud to reveal to be heading westwards with a tentative release date of...blahdy blah...", and that never happened - not even a showing from the 1st Production Department or whatever it's called nowadays. So, fairly disappointing. Disappointing also that FFXIII-2 was the only game from SE Tokyo showing and that failed to blow me away in the slightest, so I suppose the stigma of FFXIII still looms within me. Don't get me wrong, I too loved the Eidos showings, but it really was disconcerting to realise that Square Enix (a company we expect JRPGs from) only had a single JRPG to show in a big event like this. Still, look on the bright side folks, we still have TGS this autumn, even if that's....months away. =/

Seeing how nobody cares for E3 in Japan, and really anywhere, that's sort of granted.
There's TGS for all the awesome Japanese announcements and revelations. E3 is outdated garbage.

It's also a little strange that Kingdom Hearts 3D wasn't shown. Hopefully they're saving it all for TGS? Maybe?

That sucks about not hearing about the games most people want to hear about, you know? I myself, didn't really like the line-up either. Maybe something good will happen soon though?

Yeah, I'm sure everyone noticed this. It's really a shame to have seen so little titles. But what can we do? :/ I only hope they'll do better next time.

Even if they had more titles, all we would have heard about anyway was PSP Vita :/

I wasn't disappointed with what I saw. Tomb Raider was good enough for me. :D
