Familiar faces will be heading up the score to Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII.

Confirmed via a poster given away at Distant Worlds in Chicago, composers Masashi Hamauzu, Naoshi Mizuta, and Mitsuto Suzuku will be lending their talents once again to the final chapter in Lightning’s saga. While not surprising in any way, it’s nice to finally have official confirmation – something that wasn’t initially revealed when the game was announced back in September.

Square Enix plans to show even more Lightning Returns later this month at Jump Festa in Japan. The game itself will launch some time in 2013.

Well, considering neither XIII or XIII-2 had anything in the way of a decent soundtrack, I suppose we can write off this game as well. It's not surprising really, but it's very disappointing, because the OST of those two games is amongst the worst I have ever heard, and it's probably going to follow along in the same vein. Time for some more shit pop songs and awkward compositions that in no way fit the mood of the game, then!

I really like the OST for XIII-2, so if this game comes out in a Crystal Edition...I shall end up buying it. That gives me an idea for Christmas... money to save towards this. :lew: I am not able to work for money until September 2013!

I only hope they don't recycle too many tracks from XIII-2. I don't mind if they remix eight or so, but I hope they compose a list of brand new music too. :hmmm:

Nobuo Uematsu will always be the best FF music composer :mokken:

He is a musical god.

But
FFXIII music is decent. I particularly like the Gapra Whitewood theme, Eden Under Siege, Giant's Fist, and Warrior Goddess.

I wasn't expecting a radical change of composers from the previous game anyway.

I lambasted FFXIII-2 round about a year ago for having an OST that sounded like it was cobbled together in a hurry after the music teacher ordered the class to split into a few groups, go off into their individual rooms and to come up with something for Monday, though it was in reality only done on the Sunday evening. And my mind hasn't been changed. The awkward, random mix of styles and terrible attempt at styles (like the metal Chocobo theme, which isn't even hilariously bad like I wanted it to be. It's just OBJECTIVELY bad.) kind of parallels with FFXIII-2 and the trilogy as a whole. Disparate, all over the place, make-up-as-you-go-along, not really grounded, etc.

Yeah, I'm still lamenting the (subjective) fact that their best track in FFXIII-2 - Caius's theme - started off so brilliantly, but then fell flat into some sort of Disney-like melody and in my opinion, never recovered after the 55-56 second mark. Oh well, I anticipate another happy sort of vocal song to be played in a background when a character dies.

EDIT: Yoko Shimomura > Uematsu

Mehh, I didn't dislike the OST for FFXIII or FFXIII-2, although the tracks may not be as memorable as Kingdom Hearts songs or classic FF songs... ^^; "Blinded By Light" will always be my favorite FFXIII track! :3

Not sure what to think of Lightning Returns in general yet, and knowing the composers doesn't really change that. *sigh*
