I think this is by far the best graphics I've seen for this E3 (this and The Last of Us). They've got every detail down about the human features. The eyes are just outstanding though. They look so real it's almost sorta strange, lol. The only flaw I can spot on her that looks less real is her feather coat thing.

If you glance at it, it looks like a real person :gasp: And I agree, the eyes look amazingly real.

I think this looks like a cool game, but we'll have to wait a while...

yeah, if this becomes a game this will defo be on next gen consoles (not Wii U as in PS4/XBOX 720) therefore this won't been seen for at least another 3 years yet AT LEAST, but still would be a awesome game if it did come out :)

[13/06] Luminous Engine and Agni's Philosophy Pics and Details

Impress Watch contributor Zenji Nishikawa has posted a report on Square Enix's Luminous Engine and the Agni's Philosophy demo that debuted at E3 last week. As usual, the report is full of exclusive details via a developer interview. It also has some new pics of the demo and the engine's various tools.

The interview was with Square Enix CTO Yoshihisa Hashimoto, Square Enix Technology Division Lead Artist Ryo Iwata, Square Enix Visual Works Chief Creative Director and Senior Manager Takeshi Nozue, Square Enix Technology Division Lead Engineer Hiroshi Iwasaki and Square Enix Technology Division Senior R&D Engineer Remi Driancourt.

Hashimoto said that the goal of the Agni project was to offer in realtime visuals that would normally be shown prerendered. He served as producer and director, directing both the content and the technology and also handling management and quality checks.

Iwata was lead artist on the Agni project. He designed the main character, Agni. The world view, setting and framework were created during discussions between himself, Nozue and Hashimoto. He also worked on the pipeline that was used by artists to convert the Visual Works pre-rendered CG movie data into data for the real time demo clip.

Nozue headed up script writing, art direction and event/stage direction. He also directed the pre-rendered CG that would serve as the base for the real time demo video.

The Agni's Philosophy realtime demo uses pretty much the same content data that was used in the pre-rendered footage that Visual Works created. The realtime demo runs on a high spec PC with 64 bit Windows 7. The PC was made from standard off-the-shelf parts bought from a PC shop. The staff would not disclose the maker or specific specs, but Hashimoto said to consider it at the same level of specification as the PCs used by other developers when they show their technology demos.

The graphics specifications of the realtime demo include 1920x1080 full HD resolution, variable framerate between 30 and 60, FP16 (16 bit floating point) format for HDR rendering. A single frame as between 5 million and 10 million polygons. This includes unseen polygons used in post shadow generation and post processing.

Here are some comparison pics showing the Visual Works pre-rendered movie with the real time demo.

Here's the same scene with different lighting effects toggled on/off. The bottom one is the final form.

The final version.

These scenes of Agni and the old guy show the demo's "eyeball shader." Visual Works CG uses raytracing for eyeball rendering. Raytracing would be difficult in realtime at present, so they fake it with this shader.

The Agni's Philosophy credits showed a "Yebis" logo. No, that's not the beer. Yebis is a post effect middleware from Silicon Studio (the 3D Dot Game Heroes studio -- they also make middleware). These scenes show Yebis2 in action.

Tech heads with Japanese ability will find even more details in Impress Watch's original article.

Square Enix is taking small surveys for opinions on Agni.

You fill out a small form, state your opinions on the demo and it could lend some gravity to the demo becoming a game. Nothing is ever certain of course, but it doesn't hurt to say a few things if they're open to it.

that is a dam good idea there, getting normal gamers to comment on the demo, i'm gathering this is to check to see if the game could ever become a full game :3

Dont care for the design of Agni, she looks like an adult Xion's head on ultimecia's body. The design looked like something coming out of uncharted.

The dragon was the biggest disapointment to me.

Ditto.

It bore a striking resemblance to a muslim, nun, dragon.

Its difficult to maintain an image of being a ferocious mythical creature when you're hesitant to show your wonderful dragony scales in public?

:ohshit:

edit - I'm usually asleep at this time... I don't even know what I'm talking about? :LJ:

Back to sleep!

yea I remember watching this not long after it was revealed ,mightily impressed personally, just watched again.

I thought this was brilliant for a number of reasons. A) it looks fantastic graphically and like they have a highly capable next gen engine at their disposal B) it looks like something new in the character and design which I haven't seen before which i'm hoping they'll pursue successfully with this new technology and draw inspiration from it C) the real time demo as a story and setting contained elements about it that I like to see magic, mysticism, some degree of culture and tradition with some tech too, so its nice to be reassured they haven't lost the plot! the art and direction too was really well done with some very creative work. also, people have noted how it looks like a cross between some other games which I think seems kind of cool it would be good for square to try out something like that. something that is taking more inspiration from the west perhaps, hopefully in a good way.I think they got all these different elements in the mix together without them jading too badly,it felt modern yet familiar and traditional.
which leads me to be hopeful about the future of their game developing.it looks like the sort of game i'd like to play.

the design is what i'm hating the most atm. and i'm currently upset that SE really wants to pursue this type of gaming so much. if they focused on the traditional roots of FF and slowly worked their way up to this, we would've most likely had mroe games in this gen.
