Scratch on my new car

there's a scratch on my rear right door, and a mark on the wall from where the door hit it. I don't know who did it, though I have a good guess.

Just got this thing about a month ago. Was spot-free up until now. I'm sad.

Ugh I hate it when anything happens to my cars!

Especially now that I have a brand new car! I got it last year and about two months ago my fiance was reversing down the driveway and hit our letterbox.

It's fixed now and looks like brand new again thanks to the awesomeness of our local accident repair shop.

Just last week Steve hit something in a carpark in his ute and scratched the paint off the back bumper on the right corner. At least it's underneath the car and hardly noticeable though.

Hope you find out who did it and get them to help pay for the damage!

I was very unhappy when I made the first scratch on my car, but as my driving instructor said: it's been christened. Now I try and think of how its few scratches tell a story.

Still, if only our cars could remain shiny and perfect. :(

You aren't the only one :lew:

I'm crazy about keeping my car perfect...and with the exception of like one tiny scratch, after just over three years, it still is :griin:

I'm the person who always parks miles away from everyone else at the stores and etc...because I don't trust other people parking next to my car. I have winter/summer mats for it, I try and wax it twice a year, get synthetic mobil 1 oil changes for it which are uber expensive, and clean it out regularly. Its pride of ownership really.

....but I hear from my coworkers, one of which is who just like me about her car, and she tells me her stories about how her car is all scratched and dinged up already and its only a couple of years old. :( Its a shame people just can't be more careful about other people's cars when they park next to them. ...and then there's always that rare event you are driving behind a semi or dumptruck and they throw up a stone onto your hood or your windshield :damon:

D'oh, you make me feel ashamed. My car's in very good condition - no dents and only a couple of faint, small scratches - but still... :(

I know what you mean about other drivers in car parks. I'm always very worried someone will open their door and dent mine. I've seen some drivers behave so carelessly! Once, a driver parked next to me and rode a large part of the front of her (expensive) car onto the kerb, so no doubt the front became loose. I watched her rather closely! She pulled out quickly too, without really caring that she was making the damage worse.

I rode the front of my car about two centimetres onto the kerb in the same carpark and got extremly upset. This was the week before I passed my test. Thankfully, I only have a little scuff on the black plastic. Still... not a good experience.

Me too!

And if I do have to park next to someone I always try to park next to a new car. Hopefully they care about it being new and all and wouldn't want to damage their car whilst parked next to mine.

People who leave their shopping trolleys in the carpark shit me off too. They unload their groceries and then leave the trolley next to someone elses car and most of the time they don't care if they hit it or not.

It's like, seriously. Just because you don't give a shit about your crappy old car doesn't mean you can act so carelessly around other peoples. Those of which are more than likely still paying them off! :rage:

After posting in this thread last night I had a dream last night that it was hailing all over my car. >.< It wasn't normal hail either. It was like slabs of ice falling from the sky. >.<

So paranoid about my car. I always inspect it after I finish work for scratches and stuff.

:( It sucks when your new car gets scratched for the first time. Specially if it was done by some random (like they keyed your car or something)

I bought my car second-hand but it was in very good condition and I was very proud of it. (Has a hologram speedo :ohoho:)

I bought it while I was learning to drive, and my dad told me to try reversing out of the driveway myself (it was very narrow) so I tried and scraped the side of my car up doing it :rage: I was so upset!! But after that incident I've been knocking and scraping my car on everything haha. I am shit :(

I reversed into a pole coz the back window was frosted and I didn't see it, and I wasn't paying attention and while parking one time and I hit another pole, I've scraped someones car right in front of them...though they didn't seem to care. :wacky:

I've knocked someones mirror off their car coz they were parked in the most ridiculous way and I couldn't get past them so I road raged.... yehhh....

I've scratched my car many times..... :(

Suckiness.

I was trying to move my car this morning at around 6:30 because the weather report said there might be hail. I was trying to get it underneath the front porch as much as I could but I ended up scraping underneath my car a tad and it took some of the paint off. Only about an inch long.

I'm not too worried as it's under the car and you can't see it, but I still did it. :sad3:

I hate storms and hail! Why can't it just rain peacefully!

I have winter/summer mats for it,

Stella Nox Fleuret: What are those exactly? I've never heard of such things and would like to get some for my car if they are any good.

Oh and I've just gone searching on ebay for a decent hail cover for my car. I've found some pretty good ones, though they're also expensive. Like $160.

But it will be worth it to save my car from the shitty weather.

I dont see the big deal... I can see that if it being new and you get a scratch on it it's annoying but it's nothing to cry/bitch about TBH... It's a car. It's not like it stops working because you get a few scratches or dents like a CD/DVD/Game Disk/ect. does...

There are a lot worse that could happen to your possessions.

People like to keep their investments of 5k+ in as good of condition for as long as possible. That isn't money that is easy to come by, and ergo you invest a large part of yourself into it unlike a CD/DVD.

Ive destroyed my car. theres a massive door sized scratch on the passenger door when i couldnt firt througfh a gap, lost my temper and drove through it anyway, theres also a big scratch on the wheel arch from that.... theres some bent framwork under the bonnet as well, which doesnt close properly due to my crashing into someone, so the front bumper is also scratched to fuck. Theres a little one on the rear bumper when i reversed into a lamp post, and there was a massive dent there too from reversing into another car, but that was popped out and you''d never know any different and theres another scratch from when i couldnt fit through another gap, oh and the driver door is scratched at the top, from hitting that same lampost with it

it was spotless before i got hold of that car....!

Wow. Cant believe the idiocy of some people. You do realise, even at the cheap end, cars cost significantly more than DVDs and games right?

Ever since I got my new car I haven't been as fussy about this sort of thing.
I would always inspect my cars before and after I got out of them a few months ago but now I just get in and out without doing that anymore.

I do still care if something happens to it, but not as much as I did with my last car.

Steve wrote the Barina off a few months ago in a really bad accident and I've just kinda felt a bit differently towards cars since then.
Shit will happen to them, whether they get written off or get a ding in the door, but as long as I have it I'll make sure I take good care of it as much as possible.

I don't want to make it so I have to spend more money to get it fixed so I just do what I can to avoid it. The previous owner of my new car left one or two scratches on it but it's hardly noticeable.

As others have said, cars aren't cheap. It's a costly possession that never ends when it comes to forking out money for services, petrol, insurance, rego etc etc etc. So if you can avoid fucking it up cosmetically it'll save you in the long run.

That wasn't my point. My point was that the car still works afterward... I fail to see how this makes me an idiot for not seeing how one little scratch can ruin your day when you still have a working vehicle... The cost has really nothing to do with it in my opinion. It's whether or not it still works in the end. There are hundreds of other things worth worrying or complaining about.

UGH. How frustrating. The first scratch always hurts the most!

Luckily for me ... I've been driving my mustang for 8 years. It's been keyed, egged, sideswiped, and SHOT. The good part about is I'm not afraid to park in tight spots because I could care less if someone bangs into my car.. XD

If youve just spent a few grand on something for someone to scratch it not long after youre going to be pissed. Yes, theres worse things that can happen. No shit, but theres no way youre going to see a big scratch on yourt shiny new expensice car and not be raging at the fact that some one has done that and just fucked off and left it without having the decency to pick up the bill for it. Someone reversed into my mums chaps car and left a massive unsightly scratch on the front bumper of an otherwise pristine and expensive car. and it will be more than a few quid to get it resprayed - may even need a new bumper. So yes, I can see wholly why someone would be pissed at having THEIR property ruined by some inconsiderate arsehole. Just because it still works is beside the point. I reversed into someone and scratched their bumper, £264 to repair it. I had the decency to stick around and wait. A lot of people dont. I could almost see your point if it was an old car that was already a bit battered and bruised, and self inflicted, like my own cars injuries - but even when done by yourself you still have a facepalm moment and think Im gunna have to fix that eventually or its gunna affect the resale value of it eventually

why are you allowed to drive? :gasp:

I do own a hand-me-down car and it has gotten a lot of scratches and that's probably why I didn't see it as a big deal. I've never owned a NEW car so I guess I can't speak for anyone who this has happened to. I apologize.

Don't, it's luck, I'm sure :lew: ...and me being OCD about my car :sad3:

@Stella Nox Fleuret: What are those exactly? I've never heard of such things and would like to get some for my car if they are any good.

I bought some Ed Hardy mats with the tattoo design on them for the summer. They are really cute, I love them <3 I put those in during the summer months when I know the weather is nice...then I'll put my standard GM mats in for the crappy, snowy winter months. Both of which still look new :lew:

...and a brief update: I finish paying off my car in July and it will be 5 years old. It only has 30,000 miles on it right now :ohoho: ...and it still just has that one little scratch on it from awhile back.

Not to mention if you get a big scratch on your car it can easily rust and cause even more damage to your car, then when you're ready to sell it loses even more value and you're not going to get much back. A scratch isn't just about whether or not the car works after, it's got a lot to do with the value of it afterwards. You want to be able to sell it for as much as you can when you're ready for a new car/find yourself in a position where you need some cash.
