Europe got to play Final Fantasy VI on the PlayStation, and on the Gameboy Advance in the form of Final Fantasy VI Advance, but they never got the original SNES game. Now, it’s finally making its debut on the Virtual Console this week for 900 Wii Points.

Last year at E3, we had a chance to ask Square Enix producer, Shinji Hashimoto, about a remake of Final Fantasy V and VI for the Nintendo DS.

Hashimoto had initially stated that there were “technical problems” with Final Fantasy V and VI being remade on the DS, and we were keen to find out what he meant.

“As you saw from Nintendo’s press conference yesterday, there is new hardware coming out,” Hashimoto replied to us. “We knew that was coming. We had to make decisions understanding that there were hardware changes in the near future and where want to put our resources.”

He followed up by saying: “Rather than creating [Final Fantasy] V or VI for the current DS, we want to take a look to see how 3DS does, how it evolves, and then make a decision.”

OOOOOOO final fantasy in 3d...........

EPIC

this sounds intresting....

question.. didn't europe get ffvi then XD

We got the port for the Playstation and the GBA, but we never got the original SNES release. That was what it meant.

FFVI for VC while nothing amazing, is still good to hear because it took its damn sweet time to come. The 3DS speculation thing was a bit more interesting though, despite it being utterly predictable that they were considering the 3DS. Still, the idea of FFVI in actual 3D of both meanings now sounds more realistic, which is awesome.

Wait, so that's almost a confirmation that they're trying to get FFV and VI on the 3DS? Or as close to a confirmation as we'll get anyway.

Whats the difference between ff6 and ff6 advanced? Also which is the version that was on the SNES in the states?

I.....think the States got that as "Final Fantasy III" before FFVII came along and killed that stupid numbering system. That release was the original version, i.e. has no FMV cutscenes or anything.

FFVI Advance on the GBA just has some new content such as new dungeons and new Espers if I recall correctly.

Oooh...I wonder when they will add Final Fantasy VI to the Wii Channel for everyone else. I would love to play it on a Wii! :3

I want to see a remake, but I really don't want to see FF6 in chibi graphics. I feel it needs more, something like PSP graphics? But I will be happy with whatever system they remake it on as long as I can afford the system xD

I doubt they had problems with it anyway. If Splinter Cell (or was it another?) could run on the 3DS, then they shouldn't have any problems with FF5&6....

It was known as "Final Fantasy III" in American when it was released on the Super Nintendo System in October 11, 1994. They named it "III" because the real "III" wasn't released out of Japan, but later localizations used the original title. We also never got FF5 until 1999, in September I think....

Except if they porting american piece of shit censored and butchered version, nobody needs that abomination.

I know about the 3 is really 6, I was just wondering what the difference between 6 & 6advanced are. Thanks for clearing that up.

Ah, the differences are pretty big. Translations are correct and makes sense (ex. Sabin's meeting), extra places to explore, some more Espers, some awesome new weapons and slightly better graphics. Though I feel the sound downgraded from the SNES version, its still different.

If you want to read a little more about the differences, you can check out this thread where it was recently asked:
