Does anyone else get dry skin in the winter?

My entire body constantly itches and I have to keep adding lotion. I just bought some "extra strength" lotion to put on after the shower and I really hope it helps. The worst are my hands. My knuckles get so dry that they crack and start bleeding if I do not keep up with the lotion. Also, my face will look very flakey.

UGH meee!! except I have dry skin all the time :(

every time i go to get my legs waxed the women are like "omg your skin is like its going to come off with the paper!"
I'm like "gee thanks...."

I've tried everything, lotions, oils etc nothing works for me ;_;
my hands also get really bad but since we got the dishwasher they've kind of cleared up!

My skin gets pretty bad in the winter too. I'm a big fan of lotion...mostly from bath and body works (I love the body cream, so thick in texture and yummy smelling) -which is something I use year round. My face I moisturize 2x a day in the mornings and at night, with either the original Oil of Olay cream or Cetaphil moisturizer because I have really sensitive skin.

For my hands I use Curel and it works fairly well. Hardly anything else on the market works as well for me. I wash my hands like 100+ times a day when I'm at work so when I get home I douse my hands in Curel a few times.

For during the winter I use a sugar scrub and then a body butter from Sephora, bath and body works, or the body shop. Ohhh how I love body butter, there is nothing like it. It stays on your skin all day and feels like a silicone glove. The brands I get are not greasy...and they have some yummy smells too. I have vanilla cupcake, guava passion, coconut cream, cranberry, and quite a few from bath and body works. If you have dry skin during the winter you should scoop some up.

Having a humidifier in your house also helps. My skin, no. However during the winter I have long hair that gets really staticky so no matter how much conditioner I use I still have problems with static...However the humidifier is helpful...I don't get shocked quite as often by touching stuff around the house, and if you keep a tad of moisture in your house I feel it keeps things less dry, skin and hair wise.

I use to have dry skin during the winter but it's been a couple of years since it didn't happened.

However, I have eczema on my hands sometimes. It doesn't happens especially in the winter but it can happens several times a year. I have a special cream for it and it might be due partially because I'm really stressed sometimes.

Yes, but only the skin on my hands. It doesn't help that I wash my hands alot. I hate when it gets bad to the point that the skin cracks and bleeds. I remember sitting in class one day and I felt a kinda cool feeling running down my knuckles. When I looked, there was blood running down from like five open wounds.

I am going to have to try all of what you mentioned. Body butter sounds wonderful :D And when I get more money I'll have to invest in a humidifier.

And yes I can relate to the static electricity. Everything I tough shocks me. Sometimes I can even see the spark. It's a little funny though when I go to kiss John and we both get shocked. Someone once suggested running a dryer sheet through your hair to stop the static electricity.

YES. I fucking hate it ! :rage:
Like, every time I step out of the shower and go outside my arms get ashy as hell in half an hour. I've been putting lotion on everyday even when I wear a jacket on the entire day. Its very irritating. I was told once that if you wash with scum-free soap (like Dove), then the chances of getting dry skin was slimmer. Not true. It would be if you took cold showers, but who would want to do that in this weather ? e_e

My skin only gets really dry during Winter as well.

Though this Winter wasn't too bad due to the fact that it wasn't as cold this year.

My knuckles usually are the first to get irritated. They get really dry and crack and bleed. It feels terrible when you move your fingers. The skin feels so stiff and tight. >.<

My face gets dry too. Flaky and yuck. I always just use some sort of moisturiser and it goes away though.

It's not that bad thankfully.

I think the main area I get dry itchiness in the winter is my upper legs.. like thigh area, not sure why.. And I always have the itchy scalp with flakies that come off when I scratch (Head and Shoulders HELLO!).

But I can suggest a few things for you too that generally help for me:

-Use a humidifier in your house

-Don't shower as often, and don't use hot water. Only warm.

-To avoid static shock when you're touching things (yknow, like a doorknob or something), first tap the object really fast with your finger, then grab it afterwards.

-Boil water on the stove and put your face over the steam. If your face is an area that gets particularly dry, this will make it a lot better. I do this pretty often and I put things in the water like salt, lemon peelings, as well as some other soothing girly things that my girlfriend buys. After you're done and your skin is all open and moist, put your lotion on it.

-If you're going outside, put an excessive amount of lotion on your hands before you put your gloves on. When I do this it makes my dry hands feel like brand new by the time I take my gloves off. Your gloves will smell like lotion though.. if that bothers you.

Also, obviously make sure you cover up as much of your skin as you can when you're outside.

Hope my tips aren't too outrageous for you. They work pretty well for me.

Yeah, it drives me mad :rage:

My face suffers really bad with the wintery weather :sad3: and just to add insult to injury, because i have stupid skin, if i try to add moisturiser to my face it just reacts and makes it worse :sad3:

I rarely get dry skin, I get it on the bottom of my feet now and again but the times that it happens are few and far between. The only time I really ever get dry skin is if I put anything on it, my flat mates decided to put a face mask on me and set bits of my face quite dry, so does spot cream, not that I ever use it. I think I'm quite lucky when it comes to this dry skin jazz. :hmmm:

Mhm :mokken:

I hate it actually. I do moisturize daily just because well, your skin needs it but, my skin does tend to get especially dry during the harsh cold dry winter weather >.< Usually I just do it twice a day. One in the morning and one in the night before I sleep so, I don't get all ashy while i'm sleeping. I can't stand having dry skin :/ luckily, I don't itch all that much so, i'm happy about that.

-_-

I used to get a really, really dry forehead during my final few years in High School. It got pretty bad, even after applying varying types of moisturiser daily... nothing would cover it nor improve the situation! D: My face is much better than it was though, so for that I'm very satisfied.

I seem to have almost exchanged areas though; my knuckles have been horrendous this year. We're not so badly hit with the snow so far as with the rest of Britain, but damn it's bitter. It's doing nothing for me, and I have to moisturise them at least twice a day - if not more should I have slacked for a while. The portable heaters in our offices aren't doing wonders either... drying out the air isn't what anyone needs in this weather. That one's a double-edged sword.

My chest seems a little drier than the rest of my body too. Just a few inches down from the collarbone. Nothing flaky, but it's pretty clear on a closer inspection. I have to say though, after reading some of the posts in this thread I don't feel hard done by at all. :wacky:
