Is it just me or are we being spammed by completely irrelevant and pointless news threads?

Wouldn't it make sense to at least only post ones of interest?

Half of them just seem so utterly pointless, it's like...what's the point?

I agree. While I think the news team does a great job compiling ff related news for us, they probably could filter themselves a little bit in some cases.

Perhaps they could make a sticky thread in which they could post every time a dude at Square tweets about nothing in particular and only give the bigger news their own thread? Just a suggestion of course.

Defining what is considered interesting could be a problem though, as people are bound to find some information more interesting than others.

Some people want to keep on top of what is coming out and what developers have had to say about certain projects. Even if nothing much seems to be revealed some people like to guess about what the person is trying to say or hint at.

There are a lot of news threads lately, I agree, and I don't really read half of them, but people do reply to them so I guess a lot of people do like to read all of the news threads.

I like that idea, there's shite posted that we will never see the light of day of outside japan, and whatever that crack pot control pad was for dragon quest or some shit for the wii...

post count + 1 for most of it if you ask me

also, note the amount of replies to most threads, 3 or 4...?

It's just about common sense innit, thread the bigger more obviously important stuff, and bulk the lesser stuff in another thread like Sir Ken suggested

Its fairly easy to filter alot of it I'd say

The issue with that then would be that if people wanted to discuss one thing, and then since one thing had been posted another was also posted, then the thread could become a mess with people discussing different things at different times. With the amount of "lesser" news threads being created, if they were all shoved into one thread then it'll quickly become chaos. That is unless it was a locked thread and only news posts were allowed.

i always wondered what that pish ryan posted was.

post count + 1 for copying and pasting an article then linking to the article. i dont even read them but considering some of the moderators make a big fuss over so called "spammy" posts when theres fuck all to elborate on and my son here just copies and pastes a load of jappo crappo and gets no jip for it at all.:mokken:

im not even remotely interested in what kitsimototata hiroshimamura has to say about the capacity of a blu-ray disc. if youre going to give me news at least make it proper news :hmph:

Lock the threads then

Just seems like there's too much of it imo. Especially with the 'indepth' replies they generate. Half of it is no worse than just another spam thread

edit* what Jim said, pretty much

Too much irrelevant news posted YES
enough interesting news posted NO

But if you dont like it then do not read it, some people do reply but not for POST COUNT come one thats the dumbest argument Ive ever heard even if its stated as a joke...

I reply when I see an interesting news, but you have to remember this news comes from somewhere else and if the newsteam didnt do what they do already THERE WOULD BE NO NEWS AT ALL -__-

Well, my issue is signing in, and having a wall of news posts hogging my latest replies and the majority of it is irrellevent pish

engrish: learn it.

you post count++ when you make a fred dat is nt in da no post count sexshawn. all theyre doing is copying and pasting other articles. why not write an article on his tweet yourself. at least make it some sort of worthy news post, of course having read his tweet what could you possibly say about that other than: engrish: learn it.

It depends who you are though, I guess.

Some people really do like to read that stuff. Some of the semi-pointless stuff is quite interesting to me. If I'm not interested in it then I don't click the thread, and if I am then I do.

The amount of threads may be irritating to some, just like some people would be enraged to load up FFF and then see a wall of pointless spam threads hogging up the latest replies.

:hmph:

how dare you.

the spam section keeps this site alive. we dont all want to talk about the level of compression it would take to fit cloud's hair on an sd card. i think a lot of people have grown out of the series and mostly stick around for the banter. ok you still get some fucking ancient folk who still get hard ons over it but...:wacky: each to their own.

i was just joining kelly in complaining tbh. i dont care what shes complaining about, i want to join in. chances are she's probly right.:mokken:

@Argor251
Exactly its as simple as that, the main reason I joined this forum etc. is for the SE news FF news to be more exact. unfortunately FF news is hard to come by, especially Great Quality news, but that is understandable.

Rather then searching billion sites myself for FF news I find it pleasant that there is one site/forum (FFF) where I can find this FF news all bundled,
This is the whole reason for that SECTION.

I used to be a mod myself together with Mercurial on FFspira and let me tell you Twitter was not that hot and known like it is now. Back then we HAD MAJOR NEWS and top quality but that was before FF13 came out and we had high expectations...now versus is pretty much on a downlow when its comes to PR etc..

Like I said if the newsteam doesnt post these irrelevant news, there wouldnt be news at all. Some people reply and some dont..To each his own choice.

The spam section might keep this forum alive but to be honest most of them are a waste of time and I rather see useless FF news than useless spam threads any day.

A tiny bit off topic, but I've always wondered about the ethical side of just copy pasting articles onto FFF. If someone took the time to do the research and write a segment/article, I think they deserve the hit on their website.

Again, nothing against Ryan and Fleur and everyone else who does a great job trawling the web for news for the rest of us, but it does seem like a practice that is at least bordering on plagiarism.

I do agree that a significant number of threads are revolved around rather uninteresting and irrelevant pieces of information. That is why I do become more and more selective of articles nowadays. I wouldn't just simply put up an article here purely because it has the words "Square" and "Enix" slapped on it. I do consider the article itself and whether or not it is worthy of the news section. If I see a certain rumour around, by all means I put it up here if it would generate enough interest.

If the news section is to be compressed into general news talk-up threads, then I can see the problems that Dan put forward. It wouldn't be as well organised perhaps. It can require significant amounts of backreading and various topics being discussed at one time. At the moment, the section is rather tidy in itself. If you want to look up on a certain article, there are (usually) clear titles to lead you to it. If something doesn't interest you, then feel free not to click on it. Who knows, other people may find it interesting. For example, you may not personally give a damn about vague Kingdom Hearts rumours, but a big fan of the franchise might.

There is one thing that I've had slight problems with though. It's when discussions of a thread turn into one-liner posts - posts that commonly aren't necessarily discussing the topic in hand as such. And as the section is one of the least enforced in the forums, people easily get away with that, which does sometimes give the section a bad reputation. And I see little problems with how the thread maker's "copying and pasting" earns them +1 post and thread. The thread maker actually puts some effort in compiling the news anyway (and we do cite the sources) - and I can think of a couple of sections in FFF where short, irrelevant posts can be rewarded with an increase in post count.

Well,Mercurial did make it clear what you were in for.........."Nomura makes almost worthless tweets"..............

Since I joined this forum I've never heard this much amount of news coming from Square Enix..........I'd rather perfer to hear it here rather than anywhere else...........

I'm just pissed off when they make non-final fantasy/kingdom hearts news..........because they don't really bother me at all.

And that's what I'm saying. There will be topics that fascinate only a handful of people. You may not personally bear much interest in things outside of Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts, but another person might. If something doesn't bother you, you're not compelled to read it.

I see how it get's taken on board

Nice

Why bother having a feedback and suggestions section?

Nothing's going to change in regards to the news section. Fact.
