There’s nothing quite like the scent of controversy in the morning, eh? In this case, it arrives courtesy of Daniel Erickson, writing director on Star Wars: The Old Republic, who has revealed that he doesn’t classify Final Fantasy XIII an RPG.

Speaking to the chaps at Strategy Informer, Erickson commented, “I just want to take a slightly more controversial route: You can put a 'J' in front of it, but it's not an RPG,” adding, "You don't make any choices, you don't create a character, you don't live your character... I don't know what those are - adventure games maybe? But they're not RPGs."

Lol that XIII got pwned by Bioware though... Anybody else agree on it's non-RPGness?
 
Cant argue with sales figures though and Xiii sold well i doubt square guys will care.
But yeah i pretty much agree, i never even finished the game =[
 
There's already a thread about this.
Genre isn't very clear cut, but I would say it is an rpg. Just not a very good one.

In fact, I don't understand why people are claiming it's an action RPG. IT IS NOT. It's true A.I. now control party members, but you still input commands and are restricted by ATB gauge, right?

Honestly, I can not believe there's so much hate for this game. I'm not claiming it was created from the essence of god, but I didn't think it was bad. Hell, I enjoyed the game :ness:

I wouldnt call it an action RPG when you just mas x all the time xD

I enjoyed it aswell but i dunno......it just kinda dulled out with me and i never finished it. I dont think it felt very RPG-esque. Il say though, game genre means nothing to me it all comes down to whether i like the game or not.
