Star Ocean 3 got a director’s cut, so will Star Ocean: The Last Hope get one too? A fan brought that question to Yoshinori Yamagishi, the game’s producer.

“There are really no plans for development,” Yamagishi answered in a Dengeki Online fan interview. Makes sense since Star Ocean 3: Director’s Cut came about because the original game was a buggy mess. Star Ocean: Till the End of Time was Enix’s post release remedy with extra content.

Yamagashi also commented on the future of Star Ocean when another fan asked if Star Ocean: The Last Hope International would be the final game in the series. “Honestly, I don’t know whether or not a new game will be made. If Tri-Ace sends a request it may go into production. But, at least, I think I won’t be working on the series.”

I thought NA and PAL regions originally received the Director's Cut as the official release in the first place

But yeah, I guess I should feel better that no new version will be released xD

As for the series in general ending, not sure how I feel about that. I have SO1 and SO2 on the PSP but haven't really played them. SO3 is the only game I've played and actually beaten of the Star Ocean series, and SO4 is a prequel, so I guess it would be hard to fit in an extra game plausibly in the time line :hmmm:

An International version AND a Director's Cut would be milking it a little bit too much...although its not like they did anything important to the International version...THAT should have been the Director's Cut...lazy bastards...

As for SO4 being the last Star Ocean...I certainly hope not. I am extremely fond of the Star Ocean series, and it'd be a shame to die for no real adequate reason after only five instalments. A game set after Till the End of Time would be interesting...

I think this may have been part of the same interview where the Director was having a stab at the lack of storage space for the 360 and that stuff had to be taken out which will be put back in for the Star Ocean: The Last Hope International as that has the storage capacity to cope with all the content.

I'm not sure whether that has anything to do with it mind, since I've only ever played one SO game and that was this one for the 360 so I don't really know what a Director's Cut includes D:

But...But...They said "Til The End Of Time" :gonk:They can't stop now! I only just got into the series like a year ago:sad2: Star Ocean, are you breaking up with me??? (uses Palm of Destruction on their record collection to get even)

I remember parts of this article and the jab at the Xbox 360 storage space on Andriasang. Seeing as though a whole lot more can be put in a PS3 port than in the Xbox 360 version (and that the Xbox 360 one came out last year), they should have squeezed in possible "Director's Cut" content in the International version and make that the Director's Cut version - as Martel said.

I have no idea what a Director's Cut version has either seeing as though I never played a Star Ocean game before (stop gasping at the back!). In fact I'm not even certain what the International version has that the Xbox 360 version hasn't.

Well, the Director's Cut edition of Till the End of Time had additional characters, as well as new optional dungeons, and a few minor tweaks. PROPER additional content.

Honestly, anything regarding the differences between the 360 and the PS3 impacting upon what they include I'd put down to sheer laziness - I mean, its not stopped Square Enix porting FFXIII onto it on multiple discs, has it? For a more apt comparison, I expect Resonance of Fate on the 360 will be on more than one disc, as well. That the 360 has a more limited storage space than the PS3 really doesn't classify as a proper reason. In all probability, they probably just wanted to cut things so they wouldn't have to make a Director's Cut edition, and so that people would buy a year-old game with "extra" features. Its almost as bad as buying Disgaea 3 and then discovering you've got to pay the RRP all over again to get everything out of it!

...yes, I suppose I am rather pissed off that they've done so little with the International version in the first place, and that there really isn't a valid reason for them cutting things from the 360 version in the first place. Its just laziness, and a horrendous money-making scheme, and its very annoying for those of us who bought the 360 version - not only was it supposed to be a 360 exclusive, but once again we don't get the full version of the game. Market bias FTL.

Honestly, I don't care much about supposed extra content in SO4 - it's the fact that it's on the PS3 that appeals to me more than anything. I was semi-crushed when I heard about SO4's at-the-time exclusivity on the 360 since I had planned to get a PS3.

But yay, it's for the PS3, so all's right in the world :awesome:
