I had to call the cops on a customer last night at work. Let me back track a bit, first.

My kitchen closes at 10:30, and the whole store at 11, and a guy comes in at 10:20 and orders 3 pizzas, each with 6 toppings on them. All my stuff's put away, so it took a bit to get them made. I told him that me and my co-worker would get them done ASAP, but he needed to be back to get them by 11, since we close. Our policy is if you don't pick it up by 11, you don't get it.

At 11:15, he pulls up. My co-worker forgot her key, so she had to run up the street to get it from her house. Our manager told us over the phone that it was okay. I'm by myself in the store, he comes up and tries to get his pizzas. I tell him:

I'm sorry sir, but we're closed.
he says,
"But I need my pizzas"
me: "Sorry, but my manager told me that if you weren't here by 11, then we are not allowed to give them to you after that. Sorry, sir"
him: "Well, this is just asinine. This is freaking ridiculous."

THEN HE BARGES IN THE DOOR. I'm there, by myself, no one around, and this guy's about to go nuts here. Thankfully, my co-worker came back, I ran into the other room where the phone is and called the cops, and he was arrested for, I think, breaking and entering or trespassing, one of the two.

It scared the living crap out of me. I was shaking, my co-worker was shaking, and I seriously never thought I'd ever have that happen.

My question to you all: Have you ever felt unsafe at work?

That man must have really wanted his pizza. When you see a store about to close up shop it should be common sense to not order anything. That's kind of rude in my humble opinion. You did the right thing by calling the cops. It serves him right.

I dont have a job, but if i did i would probably be crapping my pants if that happened to me. I knew a guy once, who was leaving work with his manager. Across the street, he noticed a helicopter and a bunch of S.W.A.T. trucks suddenly pull into a hospital. Apparently, one of the doctors was touching 2 yr old girls or something like that. He also had a bunch of kiddie porn. My point is, that it would suck to find out one of your coworkers was a freak.

I've never felt unsafe at work, but at the last apartment I lived in, my neighbor went off his rocker. I heard loud music (Danzig) being played on repeat, glass shattering, loud pounding and other odd sounds that probably shouldn't be heard in an apartment building. Then he smashed out his front window, which is next to mine. I decided at that point to call the police and report this behavior. I flipped off all the lights, grabbed my cat and went straight into the bathroom to call them. They came, had their weapons drawn, he climbed through the window and they took him into custody.

It was a rush and of course I was somewhat concerned for my safety as he was right next door. Pretty crazy stuff, but you did the right thing, Kairi. You never know what people are gonna do.

Yes. A guy came into Borders and started asking for banned material. Stuff with girls being raped and murdered or dirty joke books. Then started asking for childrens books. I was alarmed, but told he was harmless. Then the freak appeared in my new work place the other day and started getting agressive with my co worker just cause we didnt have UP for the PS3!

Another time was a guy who spoke little English came into Borders asking for a dictonary. Got it him and he started asking all sorts of random questions, mainyl about someone I know to teach him English. Told him I dont know any teachers personally and left it at that. Then he kept coming in looking for me, asking random crap again. Then one day I was off and he came in asking for my number and address!! My co worker and best friend refused to give my details and told him to leave. I was upset when I was told and then the next day he comes in, sees me and thank God my boss appeared and marched him off the premises and told him never to come back. He never did ...

I don't blame you for calling the cops; I would have too.

I work in a corporate environment and we have security and badges to get into the building so I never really feel unsafe. And most of my co-workers seem pretty normal.

I work for a retail company though and I deal with crazy customers a lot. And I've talked to store personnel who've actually had to call the police on some customers due to feeling threatened. I really would not want to work at the store level.

I don't blame you, though. I would have done the same thing if it were me. I mean, c'mon. The store's closed and you are being told that the boss, of all people, says you can't have your pizza. That means you're not getting your friggin pizza.

Sure sounds like he got what he deserved. What kind of idiot orders a pizza that close to closing time than turns around and complains when he can't get it FIFTEEN minutes after closing time. If it were possibly 3 or 5 minutes then yeah.. maybe. but 15?! Forget it, dude!

I have never felt unsafe at work as I haven't really had a job like that once. I have felt unsafe at school, if that counts =/

That sounds really awful. I worked in retail for 3 years and got my fair share of agressive idiots and douchebags during that time. Fortunately we had security on the premises at all times, even when we were closed, so I've never had to worry about beeing all alone in a situation like that.
