My cousin who's a lesbian pointed it out that there arent any gay people in Final Fantasy! I never noticed before so It kinda came as a shock....Are the people in the ff realms all straight? Do gays even exist in Ivalice? What's going on here? Maybe there are some issues going on there....What do you think?

FF4's Barbariccia is apparently a lesbian :monster:

Can't say I can think of any others though :hmmm:

Closest thing to that really is Faris' crossdressing.

I thin kthe theory came about when people noticed her party-hitting attacks only targeted men, she never struck the female characters until the males were KO'd.

That explains why I cant find anything on it... well Lets say there are no "Openly gay" people in FF.

Although the guys are pretty feminine...hm....maybe they're bi...

tbqh, we don't really delve into the sexual orientation of m/any of the characters other than whoever a particular romance may be centered around.. so there could be loads of gay people :ryan:

Seriously though, with all the people who seem to be into that er...yaoi/yuri (tjhat right?) Im surprised there havent been any more openly gay couples within FF, it'd be an interesting twist for the main character to be gay, but then, I guess that may isolate alot of the players as I guess the majority of the players would still be heterosxual and preferring that...?, I can't word that without it coming across as well, not making sense, and hopefully not offensive...Ugh, Im shit at explaining shit.....

It's certainly something I'd like to see introduced, but being heterosexual myself, Id rather it not be the main character as they are the ones I connect to the most... :wacky:

I never noticed that. But then, in my last play through (DS) everyone was attacking Cecil (Draw Attack). I think Barret in AC comes close. At least look wise. Hell Mr. T never wore anything like that. Yeah, I don't think any of them are but some do make you think based on some of the comments they make.

I just remember, Mukki in FF7 is gay if I recall (the guy who joins Cloud in the hot tub in the Honey Bee Inn)

Ahh I think afew of them men were, or at the very least Bi, he was very...suggestive (8F) toward Cloud on more than one occassion.... you could also engineer how willing Cloud was in there AND with Don Corneo, so I guess VII is the one that has most reference to those kinds of shenanigans

I'd still love to see FFVII remade JUST for the Wall Market experience xD

Lol, yeah, that was great. I kept a save there for the longest time when ever I needed a laugh. Same with the Don event. That part of the game was full of win. I've never seen anything else like those events in any other FF.

There's most likely very few, if any, simply for the fact people would throw a fit because that's what touchy gamers like to do. Take LittleBigPlanet it had a line or two of the Qur'an in one of the background songs, nothing bad, but people moaned because they thought it was racist. Same goes for Resident Evil 5 because the zombies were black even though it was set in Africa. Also, the airport scene in MW2 because people believe it "will turn children into terrorists".

Whilst having gay people in videogames isn't exactly as extreme as those examples, I think you'll be able to see what I'm trying to get at. It'd just be another reason for people to moan =/

Which is sad, I personally wouldn't mind seeing a lesbian main char. Or hell, even a gay one. It could lead to some very funny moments if the game is lighthearted like IX and V.

Could it have a point or impact on the game? I honestly don't think there's a reason to throw in a Gay character. I thought Edward Chris von Muir was a little gay though >.> He certainly acted it.

People are very touchy about subjects like these so I think it would cause a huge uproar if anyone did have a main character that was gay/lesbian.

I really wouldn't care, I mean it would be nice for a change, but I think SE would be scared to try it because right now they're trying to go more Western, and create a larger audience. For that reason though, maybe they should give it a shot.

As it's been said, in FFVII they threw that event in there, so who knows? Maybe sometime in the next few games they'll put something like that in a Final Fantasy.

I think the most likely homosexual character in an FF game would be a supporting role, or an NPC or two. I doubt SE is going to have a gay/lesbian main character anytime soon. Though i'd personally have no issue with a supporting role, if anything i'd just find it a tad awkward having a gay/lesbian main character. But that's just me.

Yeah, Mukki is the only openly homosexual character I can think of in the FF universe.

Others may be suggestive, but Mukki is the only one that 100% clearly wanted a bit of Cloud's sword.

As for do we need them... Well I wouldn't mind if they made characters gay, there's nothing wrong with the idea, so long as they don't bend over backwards to try and fit them in just to make things seem correct, as things that do that seem to lose the plot a bit.

Love and sexuality shouldn't really be the main part of a story, for me anyway. If love stories happen it is to fit with the main story that is going on, and usually only occur between the two main characters as the rest of the plot is developing. I prefer it if the main part of the story is whatever else the story may be, and not love really, so sexuality plays little role in the majority of the story and it isn't even relevant to state it in most occassions.

People don't always say all the people they love when you talk to them on the streets in an FF game so it's not clear who might be straight or who might be gay, but FF7 has the strongest references to sexuality in general I think. A homosexual bodybuilder named Mukki, a brothel, a big pimp lord called Don Corneo who tries to rape the females of the game on two occassions with scenes of bondage included in that... Compared to what? In most FF games they just hug and kiss and go "awwww". FF7 skipped that. Cloud didn't even get a girlfriend and kiss anyone. Instead he became a transvestite for a short period, got raped by a bodybuilder, nearly got raped by Don Corneo (or his lackeys), all on top of him being made to look feminine since the spin-offs...

Yeah you could argue that FF7 is very, very gay. Barely anything straight about it. :monster:

(And then there's Tifa. They needed the balance somewhere!)
