As a teenager at this time, I've started to notice just how stupid and immature my age group is. What is wrong with us all? Why do we not tell this people to stop? They're crazy.

At my school, you can't go a foot without hearing "That's so Gay", or "That's Retarded", and I can't help but wonder if the people saying them even know what they are saying. How can you use another person as an insult. Why do teenagers do this so much?

We don't have any respect for our elders anymore, not even the one's who deserve it. We get violent toward them, we hit them, we spit on them, we insult them. Is this normal teenage behavior or are we taking a step farther?

We have promiscuous sex without once considering what could happen. Yesterday I listened in disgust as someone I know described how she got pregnant. Apparently, the fathers friends thought it would be hugely entertaining to poke holes in the condom. How stupid is that?

We destroy property for no good reason. Computers at my school have cd trays full of gum. Why? I have to say that I think it's because it's empty and they have to stick something there. Does it make sense? Hell no!

I'm starting to fear what life will be like when the world is our hands, and I want to hide under my bed when I think of what comes after that. Is is just me or are we teenagers getting stupider?

P.S: I know that some of us are okay, by the way, but I'm asking about us as a whole.

I remember sitting in lunch one day hearing the table next to mine talk about how they pushed a special-ed girl down the stairs. She's a little heavier of a girl and they thought it would be hilarious to make her lose her balance and fall down a flight of stairs. Of course, these morons were the pI-go-to-pep-rallies, my-parents-are-rich, and I-play-4-sports types of people. I swear, the only thing I hear out of people's mouths anymore is "You're gay". I remember last year we had one of those counselors come in and talk about bullying, and she said that the biggest problem in our school is guys telling people that another person is gay. Seriously, why would they even care? I mean, are you that obsessed with another person's life and what they are doing?

I can't walk down a single hallway without seeing a penis drawn on 4 or more lockers in sharpie. The boys' locker room privileges got taken away because people would throw other people's clothes in the toilet, throw them out, steal expensive stuff, etc. Now, I'm not saying that only male teenagers are the problem. I just hate how I had to grow up around these people and they've made me hate sports so much that when I see a football I want to throw myself off of a bridge. Almost every guy around here plays football, basketball or baseball. They all live in either one of those new, proper neighborhoods with no trees, or this one development where the houses are literally identical. And THAT pisses me off to no end.

It's like I can't find a spot to place myself. Not that I'm looking for sympathy, I just can't believe how it's either: you live in a trailer park, have sex all the time and smoke weed, or your parents are successful and you are basically, a jock.

I never really understood what the fun was in making fun of freshmen? Most people would be walking out at the end of school and screaming in a freshman's ears "FRESHMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNN!!!" ...um, alright. You must be incredibly cool.

As for destroying property, I remember when I used to be friends with a group of people who I now don't have really anything to do with. Said friend took me all through her neighborhood stealing from people's mailboxes. Er, okay. Didn't exactly find that enjoyable. She also decided it would be brilliant to start stealing from local stores. I mean, she took probably $1000 worth of stuff before she got caught. Not much happened to her though. On Halloween, we went trick-or-treating with a bunch of pals. Made it about a block before they whip out their toilet paper and eggs. I'm sure you can picture how that night ended.

As for what I can see in magazines and television... wow. Myspace page interests: The Hills, my celly!!!!1, shoppin with the gals, cute boys, summmmmmmmmer.
I'll show you what some of them say on their aim away/status messages.

"ill always love youh an you'lla lways be my baby ."

"if youh rlly loved meh youh wouldnt be treating meh this way an you'd still love meh deep down."

"im done with this immature bullshit. only talk to meh if ur not gunna have drama."

"**** has downssssssssss. eating dinner, but he's not. cause of his downs. text :)"

I swear, they're becoming stupider and stupider.

I think teenagers are getting stupider.

Some of the things you described happened at my high school. One thing I know is that most people at my school play sports to distract them from being a complete waste of life. The people that don't do sports or even attempt to do them usually end up being a bum or living on the street somewhere, if not in jail.

The underclassmen always get picked on just for being underclass. It happened to me, and it happened to my brother. I didn't be a jerk to the 'kids' because I know how bad it feels. Most of my friends during school were grades lower than me.

Now granted, I live in the middle of nowhere, so I hear about everything that happens, even if I don't know the people involved.

This is what I've been trying to tell the world! The world is gonna end soon if we dont stand up and stop with the foolishness. This world is slowly dying though we may not see it yet. Its coming soon, and we need to find a way to survive the maddness. People are getting dumber with each generation. Each day our fellow teens find new ways to destroy. Its only by those who are aware that the world will survive. Stupids dont hold high positions in society, the smart people do, so our future has a 50/50 chance of making it.

I truly do believe that the world is ending, but maybe, just maybe there's a way to save it...

I think everyone needs to shut the hell up about it and get some perspective.
Every generation has its idiots; its rebels. You think people weren't bullied in the 80's? In the old (old OLD) days, homosexuals used to be put to death, atheists tortured.

We don't have those 'cliques' that you complain about here in Australia, because quite frankly, we're a hell of a lot better than that and so are plenty of other countries.

Almost every teenager that I'm friends with has their head screwed on tight, and there's about three people I know who I think won't go anywhere with their lives. I'm not afraid for our future, because plenty of people in the world are smart and won't let it collapse into chaos. Cavemen managed, didn't they?

Some adults keep saying that we're hormone driven idiots, and stuff like that. I don't want to have sex until I'm over eighteen, and never plan on drinking. If people keep picking on us we're not going to get anywhere. Teenagers need support, not 'that's okay, we didn't expect any better of you.'

Those who criticise our generation forget who raised it.

I'm not worried about your generation, per se, although yours is very different than mine. Here in the states people are having sex at a younger age I know for sure, and or talking about sexual things in which normal 11-12 year olds probably still haven't had their balls drop yet to even think about it.

Beyond all the sexual mumbo jumbo I do believe there is a huge difference between "MY generation" generation X - compared to baby boomers and such..

Here in the states my dad and his paps grew up in a very different time where people feared invasions and were willing to follow their government through any means to defend our country.

People are more self aware now and try to debunk and question our governments intentions. Why? Well honestly I can say this for sure.. we have better ways of getting our data and information. The internet is just so freakin huge now, you can look up anything.. and by anything I mean.. anything. We don't crack open encyclopedias any more and filter through them, we go google it or wiki it.

We sit here online and talk to people across the seas, and figure out the people we are talking to aren't exactly what the government makes them out to be.

I honestly put my hope in the future, not the past. I respect my elders but they are so set in their ways.. that any bit of change that occurs in this world of ours they are bitter about unfortunately. Sure kids these days are being a bit more disrespectful, and sure we can't use corporal punishment and beat the crap out of kids in public, but there are better ways to raise kids now.

If your kid is infected by fads.. well that's his/hers own damn fault, can only guide them so far before they find their own way through this world. So I don't think your generation is going crap, I think yours brings about the much needed change in the world to be quite honest.

I'm not too fond of some of the teens around te states right now. Some of them are decent people. Some are complete assholes. Others, well they go about their business and don't meddle in others. I do think people should take their schooling more seriously them they appear to. Things changes and with that so do people. We must remember though that teenagers are in a way looking for who they are. They go through many different phases in that search. Some of the phases are not the best, yes. But it'll all pass in time. I'm not so much worried about humanities future, but more as my own.

Once upon a time if you were not married, in highschool and then got pregnant you were shipped off somewhere and when you came home your parents told everyone that the new baby was theirs and you continued on with your life and no one would know any different.

These days no one tries to even attempt at covering up those sort of things.

Todays morals and standards are not the same as way back then and while the amount of bullying, teen pregnancies, etc may have seemed less common back then, it was merely being covered up.

Today is just more open with these sort of issues and it makes it seem as though things are getting worse.

There are a lot of smart people within each generation who won't go down that road.

The only thing that worries me is that now that teen pregnancies etc aren't taboo as such anymore, more people will just 'not care' and eventually the world will come to point in which it is just overridden with losers and baby making machines.

I really do believe that the movie 'Idiocracy' is telling our future. Not so much anytime soon, but it will happen.

We don't have those 'cliques' that you complain about here in Australia, because quite frankly, we're a hell of a lot better than that and so are plenty of other countries.

That can't be true, because cliques are universal. Are you trying to tell me that you are stand in circles singing peace songs? There are cliques everywhere.

Also, I'm mainly worried about it all because it's ass backwards. Usually, there are few rebels who do stupid things, but now there are few smart people. That's the difference between now and then, then it was a small group, now it's a majority of us. That being said, I don't think we should shut up about it, because shutting up about it won't fix it all.

Honestly, I used to be one of those people screaming about how unjust it is to treat teenagers like emotional closetcases, but then I realized, in a very sad moment, that the people I set myself against were right. We are so stupid at the moment.

Sports is a good outlet, but so is academics. There's nothing wrong with being smart, despite the way that smart people are treated where I live. It's good to be smart.

I'm not saying that everyone is like that, but I am saying that most are. You show me a well behaved together teenager, and I'll show you ten who aren't.

We don't have cliques. And it's true. There's none of this 'prep', 'jock', 'band geek' business. There's the nice people and there's the not-as-nice people, and they don't bother eachother.

That being said, I don't think we should shut up about it, because shutting up about it won't fix it all.

People keep saying that our generation is awful and things like that. As if they've given up on us. Fewer people are saying that we need to trust our children, or nurture them. Constantly saying that we're bound to fail isn't helping anything.

Alot of teenagers aren't well behaved, sure. It's all apart of growing up: being a bit of a rebel. But many of them know their limits. I know that my dad was an idiot as a teenager, but he was a good father. People change.

Every generation thinks that the next generation is going to ruin the world. It's the way things work. Also, every generation is filled with idiots. The few non-idiots who rise above the rest generally carry the rest of us into the future.

That being said - and don't take offense at this - TEENAGERS ARE DUMB. Not that you're not intelligent people, or are complete invalids, but.... teenagers are dumb. There's not a single person above the age of 25 who looks back at their teenage years and doesn't go :ffs: while saying "WTF was I doing?"

But the thing is, teenagers have always been dumb. This isn't a new experience. And yet we have always survived. It's not worse or better than any other generation. It's just different. There are different things that the teenagers of each generation have to go through. It shapes them, they learn, and we move on.

We'll be fine.

Yes, but I'm worried because I'm not looking at the next generation, I'm looking at my own and thinking it. That's what makes me sad, it's people my own age who I think are the problem.

I worry because I don't remember hearing about other generations having such high pregnacy rates as teenagers, I don't remember them being so incosiderate toward other people's life styles, and I don't remember all of this violence. It's all really intensfied since then, or else I just haven't heard about it all.

The thing is, people get away with it, and they aren't learning. Parents are giving up, at least where I live, and the state is stepping in, but not doing a good job of it. Things are really bad where I am, but that doesn't mean the problem is everywhere.

Of course, I have a dramatic flair at times, so I could just be overreacting but I just don't think so.

This is the first, maybe second if you stretch it, generation that has been exposed to the 24-hour cable news networks and the Internet. I have no way of backing this up, but I'm willing to bet that all these things we're talking about happened just as frequently then as they do now (in various and/or differing forms). The difference is that now, as soon as something happens, it's on YouTube, YahooNews, CNN, and MSNBC within hours, and we're inundated with information over the next few days. So it's not so much that it's happening more often, it's just that we're hearing about it much more quickly and much more often.

Dare I mention the movie Idiocracy? Oddly enough, there is some truth to that movie in how reproducing seems to happen. The 2 educated people wait until "the time is right" and such, while the not-so-educated people mate any possible way they can, which leads to countless reproduction of uneducated people.

Theoretically speaking, this would mean that our population would become more stupid, like the movie portrays. But honestly, I don't see it happening that way. I mean, I've encountered many stupid people in my time and thought to myself, "can people really be this stupid?" But myself, and many others, have actually surpassed our parents in education level. So even if stupid people are reproducing like crazy, there are a few diamonds in the rough that offset the potential stupidity.

I think in the evolution of every generation, the balance of intellect is the same. I mean, the generation that are teenagers right now may be getting in trouble with sex more often than my generation, but it doesn't make them stupid, things happen. I know for my parents generation, their parents were so strict that premarital sex was never thought of. And if for whatever reason a girl got pregnant before marriage, then a shotgun wedding happened. Then our parents felt it wasn't a good idea to stress us out so much about the troubles that could come from sex. But going back to the balance of intellect, our generation and the ones that follow will always be more computer savvy than generations before.

So it's more a matter of what aspects you focus on more, but the previous generations certainly did many stupid things, we just don't hear about them because it was before our time.

Generally I want to say that teens have always been like this, ie, stupid. And a lot of the problem is that the only people they hang out with other teens, where being stupid makes you cool. Mostly people learn to be human beings, even if they only learn that they can't get away with it any more when they're in their twenties. And as you grow up, you and other non idiots will have more chance to Do Something About It.

So, I'm still hopeful about the future, or at least convinced that it can't be any worse than the past.

I'm 22 and my generation was the same. I have to admit in high school I used terms like those as well. I was not preppy though I did party a lot. I was never mean to people and went out of my way to be nice to people that most of my friends would pick on. I hung out with a lot of different crowds and was kind of like a social chameleon in that way except I never blended in because I loved to stand out.

That being said I am certainly worried about the future. Look at the way female pop singers act these days. It seems female teens idolize them the most of the female role model group and just look at how those famous women portray themselves. Then take a look at male role models. Look at the ones making headlines and you can see that the role models of todays youths that are most commonly idolized have no business being role models. It's pretty scary to me because I feel like society is slowly moving towards complete demoralization one step at a time. My generation hasnt taken the reins yet. I'm not sure when or if we will even be ready for it. The past hasnt been great either with insane atrocities committed all over the globe mostly in the name of some great cause. I just hope that in the search for liberal reform which I fully support we dont become a society of amoral trash bags with no class.

i thought about this a lot over the years, and the only conclusion i can come up with is that humanity would be a wreck if all of us were intelligent :| smartass comment it may be, but that is how i see it. many people i talk to don't want to know how things work, why they work, or why they should treat others kindly. they don't care about anything unless it nets them more money, more sex, or more fame.

Yes and No ?

Mean, was going to shout out no way before because is friends with some really intelligent 12- 14 year olds that can spell, study, and have more knowledge than most 18- 20 year olds, and most of them haven't even stepped into High School's doors yet..

But then the other hand is hearing the violence within Middle schools and Elementary Schools increasing, and hearing stories from concerned parents because a child had physically abused a Teacher or brought a weapon or gun to school, yes people did get teased/ bullied and got the head- in the toilet seat treatment back in the day- but do you remember one of your five- year old friends beating up your teacher to almost death..?

And what about those Teenagers in England that were planning to blow up a nearby Highschool think June/ July this year. Yeah, they were plotting to sadistically blow up a whole entire school, nothing happened so think they got caught.. but yeah, scary thoughts. In a way, is kind of worried about the future generations but people who are born around the 96-93 decade are SO SMART !, you would be amazed !!

Is hoping that the 96-93 borns will fix up the upcoming generations and maybe give the 88- 92 borns maybe a slap on the face, and give us all a big huge wake up call.

No, not really.

There is no point in worrying about something that we can't really control. We can't control the next generation, no matter how much we try. The only thing I fear for the next generation is the way we teach them, hopefully, we will be able to teach them what they need to know in order to make a good future.

I don't 'fear' it no.

Am I concered about my own future? In a way, I suppose.

It happens too often that I walk around with that... 'knowingly' feeling I'm wasting my future away. :hmmm: At the same time, I'm happy with what I do at the moment. So... It's kinda of a 50/50 mix of wanting a change.

I regret quitting school for starters. xD Definitely.

But nah, I'm not too bothered about the futute, to be honest, it's all about how people grow up, and what they learn along the way that makes you are. Retards and normal ones, they should all be there to balance it up I suppose.

Can't have a right or wrong without bitches. :wacky:
