This thread is all about my meddlings with GFX through GIMP and Paint, I would like to thank Lewis, Vikk, CoCo, Mits, Kei....and all the other great GFX'ers for inspiring me to pick this up, I would like to mostly thank Lewis for his massive helpfulness in getting me started, I look forward to seeing where the GFX world takes me and my overactive imagination as time goes on xD

Yep thats right, I finally made my first ever Avatar!

I'd love to know what you guys think, but remember this is my first ever time doing anything with graphics, and I did use paint to do the editing!

ofc the image i stored is larger than the actual avatar counterpart, but this one is easier to make out :)

Wow pretty good but where are her BIG BOOBS dude? Come on we all know Jills got the Boobs!!! Lol I have yet to make an avatar but I will soon. This sure is something better than I would do Jill. Good job with the paint and everything. Nut we need the boobs like in your siggy LOL.

I think theres more to Jill than bewbs ^^ Jill is (as if it isnt obvious enough) my favorite resident evil character not because she has a decent pair of boobs, but because she is smart, level headed, caring and is kick-ass without being overly "Girl-Power" like Lara Croft.

Just finished work on my 2nd Avatar, again I'm still just using paint (cant find that disk we bought for my grandfather but he never used anywhere with photoshop on it) so I cant really do much with the backgrounds yet.

this time ill put an avatar image and a enlarged :)

And now for my 3rd one, this one went together really easily, took a bit of Work to get the right Wesker image (and chopping off the bits i didnt want) but it was a joy to make.

You like black, don't you? <_< Anyway they are good for someone who just begun but don't you think a variety of colors would have helped? I mean black doesn't suit every character, That's all I have to say for now.

For your first avatar it isn't all that bad. But it really looks like you've slapped on an image over a black square. To make it more then that I'll give you a few pointers, seeing as avatars are more my strong point then signatures.

My suggestions to you are that you should try experimenting more with different colours, gradients and definitely TEXTURES! Textures make avatars look as beautiful as a sparkling little diamond. XD

Blending your image into the background using, screen or, soft light usually turn out the best from my experience.

Don't make avatars humungous either! Anything over 150x150 looks disastrous to me. 100x100 is my prefered avatar size.

Adding borders always look brilliant too.

Keep it up and post more of your updates soon. =)

After being inspired by Lewis to push on and finally download an image rendering tool (got GIMP atm, got PS but i dont want to waste the code in case im not cut out for the image editing thing) I took the Wesker one and did a bit of work with it....heres my result:

: The Avatar Itself
I'm quite happy with it for a first attempt at working with proper image editing tools and hope to work on more in future!

First sig attempt, and boy did it turn out disasterous, ugly...butt ugly is the word for it totally hated this and i definatley need to practice like hell to get anywhere near competant before I can even consider attempting another sig...here is the disaster :P

backgroundqym.jpg
...dont laugh too hard ^^

rather than giving up however after the disaster of the first sig....I decided to push on and finish a second....I stuck with simplicity for this one as I still have a lot to learn and it turned out a LOT better than the first....

weskerumb.png
worked around the image of Wesker and brightened him up a lot, the orginal was quite dark, also added burnish to the umbrella emblem to make it have more of an "aged" look, the text is definatley the worst part, but till I get to know the ins and outs, its more "thatll" do for now...

and again sticking with the simplicity for now with a Claire Redfield one, will add borders on future work, soon as I figure out where the damn tool is ><

clairegun.png

still cant figure out where the tool is so one more without a border, tried my hand at a greyscale sig and was really happy with how it turned out, what can I say im easy to please, this one is of Big boss/Naked Snake from MGS with the motif "Sins of a Father"
bigbosso.png

decided to try something a little more bold with the next one, went for a phycho mantis with heavy use one the soft lighting to form an energy effect that would form the backdrop, im getting there and am definatley happy with this attempt (the stock was awesome to work with)
mantisenergy.png

I also revisited the Jill avatar, with a better stock image, brightened it up and worked with the STARS emblem as the backdrop, came out a heck of a lot better than my first Jill avatar.

Latest sig, I felt like this one was a mistake, couldnt achieve what I wanted for it and am not happy with it at all ><

small update with another new sig ^^

decided to again be a bit more experiementive this time and went with an "in-motion" effect wolverine, tell me what you think.

wolverinemotion.png

Thats pretty good, ur gettin beter with each attempt, you should be proud. It certainly gives off the impression that hes moving. Maybe try spicing the background up a little, although thers not much room to doanything due to the size, so a slight increase in width wouldnt hurt. Good work.

ok last small update with single sig, future work will be posted in multiples, thanks again for the comments guys and gals they are much appreciated ^^

Went for a different theme this time, and I'm not too sure on it, theres parts of it I really like such as the lenseflare and brightened occular goggles, and parts of it I hate...the large quanitity of shadow seems to be a bit....bland, anyway here it is.

hellghastscout.png

and another, decided to try something a little different and go for a pretty "evil" picture with this one, hopefully it achieved the desired effect ^^

This one needs to be longer in length. It appears too squished at the moment.

The text needs a different font and needs to be blended in with the background more. It should be horizontal as well in my opinion.

You should try using gradients or adding some kind of texture to your background. It would look ten times better.

I like what you tried with the image though. It gives off a sense of movement for sure.

Good on you for trying something new. =)

Much better!

The background has texture and isn't just one colour, which is good.

The light up in the top left hand corner needs to go though. It looks a bit strange.

The image is blended well but needs a bit more light I think.

The text is much better. But did you cut and paste the bottom text? If so you should at least blend it into the background a bit more.

Also take out one of the lines of text or make it so that they work together. Maybe put the 'HellGhast Scout' text in the middle on the left somewhere and place the 'Lurking in Shadows' underneath it but in much smaller writing.

Try adding a 1 pixel border as well.

This one is decent.

You've blended the image in decently enough.

The text once again needs to be put closer together. It seems odd having a line at the top and a line down the bottom.

The font is appropriate but choose only one of the fonts to work with.

Keep it up!

thanks for the comments, I highly appreciate them and hope to have picked up a few valuable tips that i hope to have worked into my next piece....

this one took some 4 hrs odd to make (this is the main reason for it being a single and not multiple GFX post up), as the image took an age to render, I'd like to think this is the best one ive done so far and used all the tips and hints that you guys have been giving me to try step my work up a gear....anyway, here it is!

Komachi from Infinite Undiscovery, the background is supposed to represent her nightshade attack.

been quite a busy bunny so not really got round to gfxing much so just a wee update (but will stick more work to this post so watch this space)

made a new avatar in preperation for a name-change and possible theme, Mojo Jojo ^^

I was orginally just going to update the last post, but because this one was actually made for someone (that keeps asking for Quina everywhere no prizes for guessing who) so I decided to have a crack at making a Quina sig.

quina1.png
im not exactly happy with the text but im pretty tired and really struggled to find a good stock image, but I did put a lot of time into it, in the hopes the person that has been after Quina is happy with it :P

and my latest work, made this one as soon as I stumbled across the holy grail known as glow brushes ^^

carnage1.png

and to keep with the flow of me being a busy bunny today, I also made a DeNero sig, I hear one or two people might be a fan of DeNero, so here he is....in sig form ^^

dinerok.png

and another sig, this time U2, still keeping myself quite occupied it seems ^^
