Shantotto from FFXI has been confirmed as a Character for Final Fantasy Dissidia by Famitsu: http://www.famitsu.com/game/news/1220016_1124.html

Better screenshots of Shantotto: http://www.watch.impress.co.jp/game/docs/20081123/vanat37.htm

Ex-Mode:

So that leaves the possibility of character of FFXII/FFXIII(?) entering the cast, probably as secret characters. Can't wait to hear more. =D

I will be excited if one of the characters is Princess Ashelia from XII. Also I would not know her ex mode though.

Ex-Mode doesn't exactly mean transformation. She could wield, lets say Wyrmhero Blade in her Ex-Mode, or perhaps summon Belias.

Oh just to point out, She is aligned with Cosmos which means she is from the Heroes side. So there is probably a Antagonist who is sided with Chaos, but I don't really know FFXI, so I have to do some search about it.

WOW! Despite me wanting more characters in the game I really, really thought that that was the full cast now.
Obviously not! I used to play FF11, but didn't get very far. The main antagonist was the Shadow Lord, a giant Galka that had been possessed by evil or something.

I have no idea who Shantotto is though.. But she appears to be a Tarutaru so that can't be too bad...
If they were going for the small cuddly look though, I'd have rather they gone with Mog... But since FF11 hasn't had representation before now, I'll accept that they probably want to add it in.

Yup she is a Tarutaru.

And like you said Shadow Lord, he seems like the suited villain for the game:
Wikia said:
He was formerly known as Talekeeper Raogrimm, the best swordsman of the Galka and member of the Mythril Musketeers. Thirty years ago, he and a few others went to cursed land of Castle Zvahl to uncover the secrets of a lost civilization. It was in this place that Raogrimm was betrayed by his best friend Ulrich. Losing the woman he loved, Cornelia, Raogrimm refused to die, swearing to exact revenge on those responsible. His hatred reacted with the dark powers within the castle and transformed Raogrimm into the Shadow Lord, with the power to command the beastmen. It was from this transformation, the Shadow Lord realized the dark anger that smoldered within his people. From that point, he vowed to "purify" the world of all human-like races.

Some general info on Shantotto from Final Fantasy wikia

Shantotto

Shantotto is a character from Final Fantasy XI. She is a Tarutaru Black Mage from Windurst and a warhero of the Great Crystal War. She is famous for her iconic laugh and her habit of speaking in rhyme.

And from the Dissidia page on Final Fantasy Wikia...

Final Fantasy XI
  • Shantotto: An outspoken Tarutaru professor of magic, and one of the heroes of the Great War. She will be voiced by Megumi Hayashibara.

So she's a war hero from the Crystal War... So that would make it seem like the Shadow Lord is even more likely to be her evil counterpart?

Then again, she is to be a secret character, so she might not even have one. But it would be lame if they left the villain side unbalanced.

Ok... A MASS of new information on Shantotto has been posted on Final Fantasy Wikia.

Lady Shantotto Exposed
Below is a small interview with Lady Shantotto that was released when it was revealed that she would be included in Dissidia -Final Fantasy-, allowing players of Final Fantasy who are unfamiliar with her to learn more about her character. The orignal transcript can be found here: http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Lady_Shantotto_Exposed%21

"The secrets of my soft, supple skin, you ask? Beauty on the outside comes from the beauty within, and let me tell you, maintaining it is not an easy task.
However, living by the words of my dear old mother-- This alone has given me an advantage over all others.
Do not hate, be hated
Be outspoken, but never jaded
Do not loath, better to be loathed from birth
Before being cursed by a fool, make sure he is the one who gets cursed!
O-hohohoho!"

As I walked through Windurst Walls for the first time, I was amazed by the district's layout. A labyrinth of waterways and bridges connected countless tiny islands that encircled the towering Great Star Tree--the center of Windurstian prosperity. However, what immediately grabbed my attention were the extravagant mansions that dotted the district and put all other Federation residences to shame.
I later learned that not just anyone can hang her hat in Windurst Walls. The district's land is exclusive--prime real estate set apart for the elite members of the Federation. Along with the Star Sibyl and her ladies-in-waiting in the Great Star Tree, the only other people who call the Walls their home are those who have spent their lives contributing to the welfare of Windurst, and in many cases it is this handful of select citizens that represents the true ruling force of the Federation--the professors.
And among these former government ministers, there is one who stands out above the rest. Her presence is felt, not only within the Federation, but across Vana'diel. She is admired by some, despised by others, but feared by all. Her name is Professor Shantotto.
At a glance, the professor is far from imposing. Her wide brown eyes and golden blonde hair, coupled with her child-like Tarutaru features and innocent smile, are anything but frightening.
However, beneath that schoolgirl facade lies a powerful woman whose skill and cunning lifted her to the position of Orastery minister and won her countless battles during the Great War.
Even after her official retirement, the outspoken professor still spends most of her time advising young wizards, and is respected by adventurers and peers from nations across Vana'diel.
Beautiful and talented. Admired and feared. But what kind of life has one of Windurst's most popular characters led?

"Ohohohoho!
So you're interested in my past?
Ask the right questions and your career is sure to last.
From a long line of powerful black mages came both my mother and my father; In this I take great pride, though keeping track of all my great ancestors is often quite a bother."

A laugh laden with sophistication and refinement rang through the room as she answered my question. Her eyes sparkled as she reminisced about her childhood.

"While quite embarrassed to say,
I was a proverbial angel in my younger days.
Healing the world and spreading love were my dreams.
I was still a child--I hadn't come to my senses, it seems."

Such an answer could only have come from someone who was cared for and nurtured by the finest of parents. I decided to ask the professor to briefly describe her upbringing.

"My mother and father were the finest of wizards.
Rather than wait, they would seek out their enemies and crush them with powerful lightning and blizzards. To make sure that I followed in the family line,
They spent hours lecturing me on the dark arts until my skills were honed and refined."

It seems that from a young age, the professor strived to live up to her parents' high expectations.
When I asked her whom she admired the most during her childhood, I was given a quite intriguing answer.

"Why, my loving father, of course!
He taught me the only way to be strong was through utter lack of remorse.
To make sure I did not end up like one of those pansy white or barbarian red mages,
He taught me that death and destruction are what truly great black mages contribute to the history pages."

However, Professor Shantotto is not only blessed with a caring family, but countless friends as well--some of the best residing right here in the Walls District.

"Why, I'll never forget my fellow comrades!
I never would have passed Advanced Curses back at the academy without testing on those lads."

She also told me how she would go out with her friends and compete on how many Mandragoras they could squish, slice, and/or fry with their academy-issued magic dolls.

"But it is not only my friends who have brought me such amusement.
There are a few 'total loser' adventurers whose antics I often believe are heaven-sent."

Even after her retirement, Professor Shantotto is leading what seems to be a truly fulfilling life. However, I asked her if there was anything that she would like to go back and change.

"When I finally became a mage, my family experienced a touch of misfortune.
My parents divorced, our home was destroyed, and my dog drank my shrinking potion.
However, I have never questioned the directions of my life's vectors.
Not only have I preserved the family line, but I've wiped out my share of assassins and debt collectors."

And with that answer, she smiled and quietly set her teacup on the table--her radiant aura leaving a mark on me so deep that all the soap in Kazham could not wash it from my soul.
Finally, I inquired if she had any message for the up-and-coming black mages in Vana'diel.

"Nowadays, black mages are a gil-a-dozen.
Everyone wants in on the act, from their grandmothers' hairdressers to their dogs' cousins.
However, a true delver of the dark arts has to think and act positive--
In order to positively crush all those who do not deserve to live.
I leave these words to all my loving fans--
Because when I'm gone, the fate of Vana'diel will be in their hands:
Why be led, when you can be leader?
Why bow to lady luck when you can beat her?
Why sit back and relax if you can pull your fill?
Before you are taken, why not go in for the kill?
O-hohohohohoho!"

A fulfilling childhood, an iron-fisted reign as Orastery minister, and a relaxing span of luxury during her golden years. Professor Shantotto's beauty, and an unwavering sense of direction in life, have made her an unforgettable figure in the annals of modern Windurstian history.
But, just how old is the professor...?

"Why, the nerve you have to ask a lady her age!
I hope you have life insurance, because you're about to feel Lady Shantotto's rage!
O-hohohohohoho!"

And so ends the Interview with Lady Shanotto ... I wonder if the Interviewer survived ...

I hope Rydia and Rinoa get in dissidia. I really hope Yuna does also because I would like to see her in psp graphics. Ashelia's ex mode should be one of her quickenings if she gets in.

the games FF i-X have already been decided for their characters
now what might be cool is if like you beat the story mode as Squll then you unlock Rinoa as a playable character.
or maybe beat it as Tidus and get Yuna or Wakka
you know?
what do you guys think?

I like the idea of being able to unlock other characters on game completion, but as the villains will be unlocked this way (according to FF wikia) I don't know if secret characters will be included in this fashion.

But perhaps they could make it so that an extra character or two could be unlocked for something like, say for using Tidus 50 times in battle or something. Sort of loyalty points that unlock you extra stuff and possibly a new character with relation to the character you played as?

As for Wakka and Yuna, while they would have been good in the game, there would be little practical use to them now. Everyone can summon (so it seems) so Yuna wouldn't be able to be a summoner (it wouldn't make sense), and would have to be a gunner... But I doubt they'd put that form in.
As for Wakka, Tidus uses his blitzball in battle anyway, so there would be little point for Wakka's move set.

I think Wakka would be great for this game! mainly because he uses his blitzball primarily, not just as a side attack, and he is a good fighter.

I think Yuna, from FFX, would actually be a nad choice for this game, being a fighting game, since she wears a long dress she mould move very slowly and she would only be able to do magic because her physical attacks are kinda weak.

BUT!

we havn't seen andy X-2 characters announced, perhaps she might be in this game in her X-2 form, that would be cool because X-2 Yuna has guns XD

Does anyone know if she will be optional? I'm just wondering, because Sqenix said that the characters in the game are from one to ten.

For some reason, I really don't want to play as her. Maybe it's because I don't know anything about her whatsoever. I seriously hope she's optional, because apparently you can't complete the game unless you play as everyone on that side. D:

Edit: Darn, I just checked it's wiki page and apparently we have to play as teddy bear girl. Ah well. After seeing this, I get the feeling we'll get to play as the XII characters as well. That should be interesting.

Each character (or side) as a ending, for you to see the TRUE ending, you need to complete the game with the 20 Main characters, protagonist and antagonist, Shantotto or any other new character probably are considered as optional or secret.

Yeah I would like characters from XII to be here as well, as long as they don't add Vaan I'm okay with it, Gabranth would be the nicest add. :monster:

I agree. I hope that if they do put him in, they change his voice actor and make him less annoying. "I'M CAPTAIN BASCH! DON'T LISTEN TO ONDORE'S LIES! :gasp:"

And yes, I know that you have to complete both sides in order to really finish the game. I still wish the villains weren't unlockable, though. :( I was planning to play as them first, lol.

I read in the FF wikia or in wikipedia(I don't remember)that Jecht was chosen as a villian instead of someone that I don't remember because if he was chosen he would need Yuna.In conclusion,Yuna isn't going to be included.

That was the most lame part of the game. XD

Yeah I was hoping that too, I wanted to play with all the Villains first then skip to the heroes. But that way I have a reason to play with Firion, Onion Knight and "Butts".

That was probably Seymour, If he entered the cast his Ex-Mode would be either summoing Anima or becoming one of his freak transformations.

I doubt they'd have time to include 13 really... We don't even know who the antagonist is yet :wacky:

As for 12... Who could they use? I reckon having Basch and Gabranth would be quite epic tbh :D Or Larsa and Vayne.

The rest of the cast seem pretty good, though for anyone who's seem the latest trailer... I dunno what to think of Butz... Revolver gunblade and buster sword? Liek srsly...

Wait is Golbez playable. If he is playable that would be amazing Golbez vs sephiroth would be a fight to remember!!!! Although I think sephiroth would win.
