Venom Movie

I have a feeling this is going to be a bad film, main reason being, they are already comparing it to The Dark Knight in terms of advertising Venom like they did The Joker...problem is, the Joker is a far superior and interesting than Venom could be.
I also thought that the Spiderman films were rubbish which makes me think even more that this film will be awful. :wacky:

It could work out as Venom was an anti-hero like vigilante for a time before leaving Eddie Brock and joining Gargan/Scorpion. If they stick to the dark themes it could end up a pretty good film.

I wouldn't hold my breath tho...

Too much is in the dark for me to come out and say the movie'll be awesome; however, I like the idea of basing a movie off Venom. Venom's always been one of my favorite villains. Also, I was a little disappointed that he didn't have more screen time in the last Spiderman movie.

I agree with VoN, Topher Grace did a good job with the character and deserved more screen time. I, for one, liked Venom better than the Sandman, but whatever.

As for the movie, more remains to be seen. I can only hope that they learn from the mistakes they were starting to make with Spiderman 2, and made more of in Spiderman 3. Venom's an interesting character and all, but even good characters can be ruined with shoddy directing and especially shoddy writing.

yep, just look at the Hulk movie with Eric Bana in it, or any of the Fantastic Four movies. They were let downs, but i'm pretty sure the Venom movie won't be that bad

I'm not too sure about this, Venom isn't really one of the villians I can see making a good movie out of. I like Venom and everything but he's not interesting enough to carry an entire movie by himself.

I'll wait to see more developments but it does sorta looks like Sony are just trying to get as much out of the franchise as they can.

Not necessarily. While The Joker was a GREAT character, and they did take a viral-marketing-approach, Venom, in the comics...is a great character. The main thing that made The Joker so great, is it was The Joker...but a darker, edgier, more modern and realistic version of him.

My verdict on this is: don't knock it till ya try it. It may suck, but, who knows...it might end up being a great movie.

They might even put Carnage in it... In which case this movie WILL be fantastic if they get it right...

I think the problem with the Spiderman films is the emphasis on Peter Parker and Mary Jane... For THREE films we've had to sit and watch Parker stuble his words out, looking gazingly into her eyes, and her into his, looking oh so much in pain... THREE films! Well... 2 films.. In the 3rd he mucked the relationship up half way through with what must have been a zombified Gwen Stacey affair story coming on.. But I'm sure it ended again with Parker and MJ just.. staring at each other... Too soppy. Comics are about entertainment, and Spiderman needs more... you know.. fun.

They might put Carnage in it?! Then, I am SO down for this movie. Carnage was a greeaat character. He's kind of like...The Joker on crack, but...not as smart. xD

I haven't heard a rumour that Carnage might be in it or anything.. Sorry to get your hopes up. But thinking through possible Venom related story lines they could do, the Carnage one seems the most obvious, and the one most fans would love.

The Joker is just insane and doesn't have any powers [and neither does Batman, for that matter - his money is what helps him], whereas Venom can actually do more than tease people. The story of how Venom came to be outweights the Joker immediately. ;D

I'm not "worried" about what this might turn out like - I'm more intrigued to see how they can develop Venom further; my bet's on introducing Cletus Cassidy and Carnage, somehow.

More Marvel in our lives is always a bonus.

Yeah I wouldn't mind seeing a spin-off with Venom in it. Who knows, after Batman they might make the movie more seriously than before. Not that it wasn't serious already in the previous movies, but not enough effort like Batman. And Argor251 does make a good point. It was so corny seeing Spiderman and MJ making goo-goo eyes at each other that the movie appealed less and less to me. I'm seriously hoping for a better film this time around.

I think it'll be best for everyone if everyone just tried to forget Spider-Man 3 even happened...

A Venom movie will inevitably suffer the same way the Wolverine movie probably will...it'll be PG-13 (TOPS) and be kid/family-friendly...What's the use of getting these badass, take-no-prisoners, no-holds-bar characters if you're going to dumb them down?? This is ESPECIALLY true if they try to put Carnage in it...You can't have Carnage w/o egregious & massive amounts of violence & innocent blood being spilled...C'mon, dammit! Blade did well with THREE R movies and he was a nobody character in the comics!

They should also get Todd McFarlane involved if they can...it's really HIS goddamn character after all, when you get down to it...

(& yes, Final Keyblade, I am mostly copy & pasting my responses from your FFI threads ;))

INDEED! Carnage is a lot like Joker in some respects. A few years ago there was this comic in which batman and Spidey pair up against Carnage and Joker. In that comic, Carnage and Joker eventually have a fall out, mainly because Joker is more "interested" in the WAY the crime is comitted, rather than actually KILLING anyone, while Cassidy/Carnage just wants to KILL as many as possible.

Carnage WOULD be the perfect villain for Venom, BUT... I too agree with the fact that this movie will suck. Why? Simply because it's based off Spider-man 3, which royally screwed up Venom's character, origins and nearly everything else. Eddie Brock is not a smooth talking, sharp and YOUNG man. He's older than parker, and he has his whole share of daddy issues and god knows what else.

If the movie takes a CLEAN slate, maybe even adds Spider-Man as a guest character for a while, THEN, then it's okay. Otherwise... well, I'm really skeptic. It's going to be like Catwoman from what I can see XD

Don't know about you guys but Carnage would be more perfect for say a sequel. Carnage adds to the Venom story-line but doesn't make it, though if he did make an appearence it would be epic as long as he's kept the same way in the comics and not dumbed down. And if Carnage could be in it then maybe Toxic too? that would be quite intresting. Infact Venom could easily have his own seires of films if the makers explore the character properly.

Yeah Venom and Carnage in the same movie would be epic. Even Carnage alone would make a epic movie. Carnage being as sadistic as Joker makes me like him better then Venom anyday.

Who will play them though??

Well I dont think they should do more than one Venom film... But I guess it depends on how the film goes.
But realy, if there was only to be one film, what i am saying is that I would rather Carnage be in it. But yeah, they'll probably mess it up. So not realy looking forward to this.
