So what is your OWN list of seven wonders in this world that you find totally amazing? (And even inexplicable). It could be man-made, natural, ancient, biblical, or modern wonders of the world - anything goes. State your reasons why for each 'wonder' that you list.

Here's a couple sites that you may find helpful:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wonders_of_the_World
http://www.travelchannel.com/Travel_Ideas/Seven_Wonders_of_the_World

There are obviously a lot more 'wonders' that are not listed in those site, so think hard. It would be interesting to see what everyone can think of and read the reasons stated.

I'll make my own list later...still need to do a bit more research on some of the interesting ones I know of.

How about this, make it more real here. I'll post places I've been that I could consider to be wonders - otherwise what's the point in getting my hopes up =P.

10) Kentucky Dirby - Was something experience just once, to say you have. Nice to see the horse races and such.

9) Nashville, TN - I love my home town, I call it a wonder even though it is not a place I visit, a place where I grew up in. It has everything and more from the good people to the eating locals, to the experience of a small city. Great place to live one day if you have the money.

8) Gatlinburg, TN or Black Mountain North Carolina - I love the outdoors, I love getting bunked in when there is snow out and I have to make the fire. I love grilling, love the hot tub, love the view.. thank god we always go back once a year. These places are excellent.

7) Dallas Texas - I loved this place. LOVED it. When my mom had Cancer I had to bunk here for 3 months and basically hung out with Dan (2 doors down) in an apartment complex. The galleria, to the golf, to the Texas Rangers.. this place was awesome. The food was excellent as well, somewhere I would love to go back to. Did I mentions Six Flags? Texas Giant? ... sheesh.

6) Orlando, Florida - Disney World, Epicot, MGM Studios, Adventure Isle .. sheesh.. quite a bit of stuff to do there. I loved hearing the Whalers (bob marley's old band) sing right outside the theme park.

5) Key West, Florida - Beautiful, only thing you gotta worry about is Hurricanes. It stays a constant 70 degrees in the winter, from what I hear.

4) Porto Viarta, Mexico - Beautiful place and away from the main topical tourists location. You have to know a good bit of spanish to get around.. by the time I left there I knew quite a bit of "one liners" per se.

3) St Johns, Caribbean Isles - Beautiful freakin place. I was able to experience the scuba diving there along with the quite a few other things. The underwater wild life was amazing, and the things you could do there were out of this world.

2) Belize - When on a cruise was able to go on a mountain bike excursion and see the Mayan pyramid structures. It was definitely a repeater.

1) Jackson Hole, Wyoming - R Lazy S Ranch - I probably had my most fun venture here due to my love for the outdoors. The view was breathtaking when you rode up (horse back) into the mountains. You get to everywhere on horse back, it was like living back in the frontier days for me..

Germany - Whilst not having the best history, the country is rich in food, heritage and architecture.

Any area with massive and amazing mountains. Love them fuckers.

*Mod Edit: Can you please elaborate more on your post. The thread creator has asked:

I meant to reply to this back in October when the thread was made, but I never got round to it. :sad2:

I’d personally put natural wonders and man-made wonders apart from each other in this case, as while both are fascinating I think it would be unfair. I’ll do it for man-made now, but for natural wonders I might come back to it at a later date.

So my 7 wonders of the world now would be (not in order of greatness, I can't possibly rate them like that):

1 - Teotihuacan in Mexico. I've never been to Mexico, but it seriously is one of the places I really would like to go. This site in particular is pretty damn impressive. I'd love to see the large pyramids and avenues of pyramids. It's got to be visually impressive.

2 - The Statue of Liberty, New York - It's essentially the new Colossus of Rhodes, though a woman, and perhaps not as impressive. All the same it is pretty amazing.

3- The pyramids of Giza, Egypt - Still standing! I believe they deserve to keep their spot on this list as they are some of the best made structures in the world, and are in such a good position so to be preserved for an incredibly long time. I've been to them and while many people are dissapointed by them (people often say "they look bigger in the photographs" or "I thought there would be reliefs inside of them") I still find them incredible.

4 - Vatican City - One of the most amazing collections of classical art and sculpture in the world are here, as well as a lot of renaissance art, and many merging of cultural art in the whole design of the place. I felt here more than any other place I've been to a sense of a collection of world culture that is timeless and all-inclusive (well... that would be a lie. Instead Graeco-Roman with an essence of Egypt, but the feeling was still there). I blame the obelisk with the christian cross on it for that, but there is much there, and it truly is an impressive place. Oh, and the Sistene Chapel is a masterpiece too. :)

5 - Karnak temple complex, Egypt - This is the largest standing ancient religious site in the world, or so I think. It certainly is massive.. Literally temples everywhere you turned, and great hypostyle halls. This was probably one of my favourite sites to explore, and there was quite a lot to see. Whole sections of it weren't even open to visit when I went there, so it is even bigger than I'll remember. But this definately gets on the list for me.

6 - Knossos, Crete, Greece - Though a lot of what stands today is to a degree reconstructed (often the case) / repainted (not so often the case) I think regardless of this I'd be impressed by Knossos. The palace is huge, and there are lots of complex passageways, though now we can obviously just step from one collapsed wall to another so we never get lost. But taking a step back and looking at the map of the place, you can see why they called it the Labyrinth. And I love the bull leaping frescoes from there.

7 - Great wall of China - Though I'd love to put many places for the last slot, I think I'll have to give it to this. The area it covered is pretty impressive, and I'd love to go and visit it.

Great thread idea!

Picking the seven greatest, most impressive and/or beautiful places in the world is too hard, but I'll just pick seven that I find to be highly interesting (in random order).

* The temples of Teotihuacán, Mexico
The Aztect culture is really interesting and in my opinion their temples have both more flair and mystery than those of ancient Egypt. I don't know much about any temple in particular, but those in Teotihuacán (gotta love those unpronouncable Aztec names) sound really interesting.

* Las Vegas, United States of America
A city in the middle of the desert that features the most absurd hotels in the world and probably one of those places where you can pull of all of the seven sins within one hour. On top of that the background of one of my all time favorite books.

* The 88 temples of Shikoku, Japan
I've never been to Japan, but I've seen pictures of friends who have walked the pilgrimage route that connects these temples, which are scattered over the island of Shikoku. Not every temple is probably very beautiful, but some featured some amazing sights. On top of that, they are surrounded by some amazing scenery too.

* Statues of Easter Island
I like mysterious old stuff, and the ancient inhabitants of this island did not only managed to move huge rocks, they made statues out of them too! Beat that Stonehenge.

* Great Wall of China
Buidling a wall through a country as big as China is a very prestigious and huge project. Actually pulling it of is impressive and defenitely deserves a spot on the list.

* Some spot in Rome
Rome is a beautiful city, probably one of the most interesting places in the world. I don't know which part of Rome to pick for this list however. THe Forum Romanum is great, there are a lot of beautiful churches, great fountains, too many options! Only the Collosseum kinda sucks, so I guess the entire (ancient) city of Rome except the Colloseum gets the spot :P

* Some forest
There area lot of amazing places built by human hands, but the place built by mother nature are often of the same beauty and grandeur. I especially like forest, full with old trees and young plants growing in between them. I don't know which forest to pick however, there are too much option to pick like the Schwarzwald in Germany or the Amazone in South America.
