Your first RPG....?

pokemon blue, but since that doesnt really count ff8 was. my friend at school had it, and he kept telling me how good it was so i bought it

Pokemon Yellow, but Pokemon has sort of created its own genre, so it would be Golden Sun 1. I borrowed it off a friend and then i bought GS2 when I finished the first one. GS is probably the reason i liked FF3 so much, as the gameplay is incredibly similar.

I class Pokemon is an RPG, but Zelda is more of an Action Adventure game.

Anyhoo Pokemon Red was probably my first RPG with turn based combat but I would probably say Illusion of Time was my very first RPG since it was an Action RPG. Both games are awesome.
 
I don't know if I should count Zelda - A Link to the Past as the first one, as it's alleged to be an action/adventure game. It's strange since ironically, I've been one of those people who grew up believing that Zelda games are classified as RPGs. So I'm going with either Harvest Moon GB or Pokemon Red on this one, even without realising they were RPGs at the time. It's only when I heard of and subsequently purchased FFVII did it kick-start my craving and hunt for RPG titles in the years to come.
 
My First RPG (Although really I was too young to appreciate it at the time) was Mystic Quest on the Snes. i think it was the game released before the Final Fantasys came out, loved this game. Anyone else play this? After that it was games like 'Illusion of Time' and Secret of Manan' that kept me going untilI got into Final Fnatasy 7.
 
i think it has to be ff7 for me. borrowed my uncles playstation for a month while he was away on holiday and played it for a month. and i was kicking ass cos i got stuck with cloud and aeris on way to wall market for 4 hours and levelled up like 15 levels so was unstoppable after that.
you would think i would have stopped after 1 hour but i jus kept banging my head against that wall until i got to a save point lol.

and reading some posts above about BoF. i played BoF and didnt finish it . purely cos randomly after a long time of playing my guy jus died. lets jus say i was not best pleased. havent played it since. really should start that again someday.
 
Final Fantasy VIII was my first RPG :) It was a great way to start off my love for the Final Fantasy series and for RPG games :D
 
The Legend of Zelda- A Link to the Past on SNES. I know it's not officially categorised as an RPG, but it is in my book. ^_^ At least it paved my way to RPG passion!
 
I believe it was Final Fantasy VIII. I cannot for the life of me remember why I bought it, being only 8 at the time, but I can't remember any RPGs before it. I completed it and it's what got me hooked on FF games.
 
if Shining Force is an RPG then it would be my first, if it wasn't then it's FFVII my fav FF game
 
The RPG that got me hooked and probably my first was secret of mana. The game was awesome to the extreme.
 
My very first RPG i experienced was the Lenged of Dragoon at my cousins house about 2-3 years after it came out. It was till a couple years ago though that i actually owned and played my first RPG and that was FF VII (best game ever by the way)
 
My first RPG was Final Fantasy VII. My cousin came to live with us for afew months, and he brang his PS1 and FFVII over. I was young and never played a FF game before and then and i was amazed by everything about the game. It really got me into the series too. He gave it to me and ive been playing them ever since.
 
I think the first RPG I've ever played was Final Fantasy I... although I didn't know it at the time. I give credit to FFI because I can't remember the names of any of the other RPG games I played around that time.

I played Final Fantasy VII. I thought that was my first RPG. There was so much hype about the Final Fantasy series, I wanted to get more games. I had an original Nintendo. My brother obtained FFI. I bought it from him for $5. I took it home and played it... and was pleased to see that I had played it before.

I have yet to defeat it, though. Now I only have the emulator.

As far as other RPGs, I've never played a tabletop RPG although I had the original Dungeons and Dragons books. (I'm still irritated over my loss of those books.) My one and only real live action RPG was Amtgard.

Wow, I never realized how involved I've been in RPGs until now.
 
Mine was also FFVII, shortly followed by FFVIII. Never really understood them back then, I always got all confused and started bashing buttons as if it were street fighter ^_^ lol, such a long time ago...
 
I think it was FFVI, though it may have been Chrono Trigger. Well, actually I suppose my first RPG was an old NES game but those were less memorable.

Lol that totally reminds me of my first playthru of VII I was just button bashing wondering why my guy wasn't attacking as quick as I was pressing lol
