Your favourite author/genre

I have three favourite writers:

Hunter S. Thompson: Best know for his book 'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas', this writer claims to write journalistic accounts of events. Only catch is he often uses so much drugs that the reality he describes probably isn't the real course of events. He uses a lot of references to American (pop) culture, adds interesting side stories and has a style of writing and word use that I really like.

Haruki Murakami: This Japanese writer mixes up some fantasy elements in most of his novels, which mostly take play in modern day (60's-now) Japan. Although a lot of his lead characters look a lot like eachother (probably partly auto biographical) each book has a lot of interesting characters, plots and events to make it interesting till the last page.

And my third fav writer is Chuck Palahniuk. Palahniuk's books often show the 'underworld' or outcasts of the modern American society, like brutally scarred topmodels, a journalist for a lousy magazine or a scammer who works parttime in a historic amusement park. He has a very typical style of writing and subjects which make his work really stand out between other writers. His best known work is made into a film, Fight Club. If you like that movie, his other books are highly recommended!

My favourite author is probably Raymond E. Feist, simply because his Riftwar Cycle is one of the most engrossing and all-encompassing fantasy series I've come across.
I'm quite fond of David Eddings as well, for his dry humour. Very little goes on in his books asides talking, but its all well worth reading.

My favourite genre - the only one I will read, in fact - is high fantasy. I need Gods or continent-spanning wars in my books. I read to escape reality, so a detailed alternate reality is exactly what I'm looking for.

Gonna have to go with C.S. Lewis here, for favorite author. His writing styles in Narnia are just so whimsical and lovely and cute. :3

But underneath that, he has this crazy beautiful insight into religion and philosophy. It's very fresh. <3

Have you read books Such as the Screwtape Letters by him, but it's awesome. If you haven't read it I don't want to spoil it for you incase you happen to one day. It's more of an adult book. He's awesome. A great author thought I prefer his adult stuff to the Narnia series. I still like those but probably wont read them again. When I was a kid I had all of them with original art and everything.

My favorite genre is Philosophy(non-fiction), but I enjoy everything from sci-fi/fantasy, non-fictional history, theology, really almost anything. My favorite genre being philosophy is probably just because the search for a meaning behind what we do is appealing to me. Even if there isn't one we don't know that and exploring the ideas is so intriguing.

I saw someone mention The Divine Comedy and thats a book I would love to read when I finish my current one.

i have no favorite author. if you forced me to choose one it would be douglas adams for inventing '42'. my favorite genre is adventure/fiction.

I have a favorite author: Ann McCaffery or the author of the Dragon Keepers series. Her name is "Donita K. Paul". Donita is a very talented author! :D

My favorite genre is: Fantasy/Adventure with some romance. ^^

Christopher Moore. He is hilarious, very clever and writes about some crazy stuff. Totally worth looking into if you have not heard of him.

My favourite author i've read recently is Christopher Paolini. He is the author of the Eragon series. I'm only ever interested in these fantasy type books, especially if that involve dragons!

I'm starting to get into musical biography's, like the book i'm currently almost done, "Scar Tissue" which portrays the life of RHCP lead singer Anthony Kiedis.

Steven King- The Talisman
Ender's Game both Si-Fi
great books

Mod's Edit: Could you please expand on your post a little? What makes them great books? Posts such as these may be classified as spam next time and be deleted. Thank you. =]

Well for favorite author, I'd probably have to go with the likes of the late Robert E Howard, his Conan short stories being nothing short of fascinating and amazing pieces of work.

Howard had a natural talent for seeing every little detail in the smallest thing and you can clearly see that depicted in his writing, most notably The Hour of the Dragon & The Elephant & The Tower.

For me it has to be Dark Fantasy novels, I much prefer that setting as it feels distant from my own life, but at the same time there are always several elements of Dark fantasy that you can relate to.

My favorite Author so far Shannon Hale

Her book "The Goose Girl" is excellent retelling of the Brothers Grimm fairy tale of same name. Yet she made it her own. She makes the unknown fairy tales known to a wider audience. Giving me a reason to like her work a lot.

As you can see fantasy is my favorite genre. I like no I love this genre because it allows me to get away from reality as well make a world of my own. As well it hard to find good realistic fiction around.

My favourite genre is sci-fi/fantasy, and Terry Pratchett is my go to guy. His discworld series makes me laugh even if I've already read the book ten times. Which I have, some of them. My particular favourites are the watch books, and I seriously hope they find a cure for Alzheimer's soon, because I don't want to lose Sir Terry :(

My favorite Genre is Mystery and Crime, my favorite Authors are Lemony Snicket, J.D. Salinger, Joseph Heller, Beatrix Potter, and sometimes F. Scott Fitzgerald and maybe Leo Tolstoy although I don't agree with him about Hamlet -- which is another great book by another great author I love XD
