If someone came up to you and said "You'd be a great Scrooge", would you take it as a compliment, or insult/putdown?

I would take it as an insult/putdown, I assume many people would, unless they are an actor. :P

I mainly wouldn't take that as a compliment because 1: I am not always the most pleasant person in real life. And 2: I am a bad actor. XD

So, how would you react to someone saying that to you? I haven't had someone say that to me, but it is just a question that popped into my head, and I thought I'd make a thread out of it.

Discuss. And, no name calling.

Yead id take it as an insult also. Thats basically someone telling you you're cruel. miserable, greedy and that no one likes you. However if i was in a bad mood and was acting grumpy and someone said
'whats wrong scrooge?'
I wouldnt take that as an insult.

I probably would, if someone calls me scrooge, or says I'd be a great scrooge, either one, insult. <.<

But yeah, I guess I see where that may not necessarilly be trying to say something too insulting, just maybe having an attitude, perhaps saying "What's wrong, scrooge?" sarcastically.

I'd take it as quite an insult, as it implies that you're generally a mean, horrible, nasty old git :monster: Unless it was said in a jokey way, because it's a great word to use on someone sarcastically. But not such a great phrase to call someone, especially if the person is genuinely lovely and you're just annoyed at them xD

But I wouldn't like to be called Scrooge, as in the real world, I try to be a nice, friendly, optimistic person. Although, I wouldn't mind getting called Scrooge about Christmas. It's pissing me off >_>

Odd...well, I suppose some number of people would just ignore it or shrug it off. :P But sick of Christmas? Christmas Eve and Christmas day are my two favourite days of the year...

All the colorful lights, Christmas decorations, and exciting feeling during the holiday season of that best day of the year being nearly here, I love it, the whole season in December leading up to December 25th. ^_^

The nice spread of treats which is first put out on Christmas Eve is great too. :D Only scrooge could not appreciate any of that... J/k! But really, it is the best time of the year in my opinion, but of course I am sure you must have your reasons, I sure as heck don't like the power going out here literally every other day, but I deal with it. >.>

It would depend on who said it and how they said it. If I was acting grumpy and someone said it in a joking manner, it probably wouldn't bother me too much. Realistically, I don't think anyone would say it to me if I wasn't in a bad mood. So if some one said it to me (and was serious) I would probably get annoyed because I would already be pissed off.

True... Though in real life, I often get angry, or just worked up at the drop of a hat, as the saying goes. :P

But when I am in a good mood, someone calling me that would be completely uncalled for and just trying to provoke me, but no one has ever said that to me, whatever mood I am in. <.<

Pretty jolly right around Christmas though, going to be getting more than 30 presents. :D I'll be sure to be grateful, unlike the cold hearted Ebenezer Scrooge would be.

I get called Scrooge all the time. Not so much because I have a bad personality though, but because I am not very festive during holidays and generally don't partake in events outside of eating.

It doesn't really bother me though. I know I am a good guy, so even when people say rude, uninformed things towards me I just ignore them.

I get called it all the time over the Christmas period, and I couldn't give a stuff, I openly express my deep dislike for Christmas, having to buy presents, getting caught in the xmas rush when all I want is some toiletries or whatever, the 3 days Im marooned at the mothers because taxis are extortionate (not that staying at the motherships is a bad thing, just not for 3 days on the run, I like my own space kthnx) but it beats being sat home alone watching the shit thats all over tv. OH the queens speech, fuck off you boring cow -__-

It's one big kerfuffle over nothing.

Bah fucking humbug

There.

If I was to be called a Scrooge by anyone, I wouldn't care less about it because people don't understand how I feel or think about the holidays these days as oppose to when I was a child. In complete honest, I really don't enjoy Christmas as much anymore. I hate having the tradition to be driving out on Christmas Eve night to look at lights with my family which is a complete bore. I hate Christmas shopping, sending Christmas cards to people that I don't even see or talk to anymore, and the annoying 24/7 holidays movies that are shown on TV all month long so bah humbug.

Well, I may not be a kid anymore myself, but I truly admire how festive the house is decorated up, it really is like a Christmas wonderland, for lack of a better word... :P

Some people don't like shopping, but some do. My dad enjoys it, that might help make there be so many presents under the Christmas tree, I'm sure if he hated shopping, not nearly as much shopping would be done, perhaps a bare minimum...but that isn't the case for me, so I have no reason to dislike the holidays, and can't forget what it is actually celebrating, 'tis the greatest thing that ever happened on earth...

But this isn't a topic for that, this is just Costa Del Sol. <.< Sorry to hear so many of the people here don't really care for Christmas, but I am sure you don't all act like Scrooge about it, no one can be as extreme or more extreme than him, at least not without getting physical anyways, that wouldn't be good... >_<

Scrooge >_>

I mean damn, I'm not festive but I'm not exactly anti-xmas like you are >_<

Oh and a tip for toiletries, go to a supermarket. Though they too generate more buisness around christmas, the increase isn't nearly as bad as a Wall Mart or something.

But if you don't like crowds don't go to the supermarket on July 4th, New Years Eve before 9 o clock, or Thanksgiving day (or the few days before it xD) as they seem to generate large crowds of people during those times.

I've been ou today, looking for a mans bastard dressing gown, can I find one anywhere? NO. the ones I DID find where FORTY QUID. forty whole english ppimds. Its a sodding joke, then I found one for 12 quid, and it was just...rank

I've hated Christmas for years, I didn't even put my tree up last year, and my mum had to bribe me to go round for Xmas. Apparently, if I didnt go round I wasn't getting my DS xD

There, have it pushed on you. :P Scrooge would never let anyone tell him what to do, he's already rich, so I guess there is a difference. XD

I'm festive beyond description, I am always exceptionally excited when Christmas is less than weeks away, which is the case right now, less than a week and a half, 9 days to be exact, a week from the day after tomorrow until Christmas day. :D

I have very good reasons to be as ecstatic about it as I am, every year everything is done up so big and Christmasy, I just love it, these days right here are my favourite days of every year. ^_^

But I don't share very much though, that is the most scrooge-like thing about me, I like to get everything I can, but I only asked for a handful of things, not dozens, so there will be loads of good surprises (trust me, the things I don't ask for are almost all good too. :)).

My favourite Christmas movie is actually the version of Christmas Carol with Alastair Sim as Scrooge, so there. :monster:

Scrooge! Sorry, I couldn't resist. :P

I probably wouldn't bother with being called Scrooge. Then again I usually don't bother with whatever is said towards me as I usually bite my tongue and continue but I would admit that now that I am not a kid I don't quite get that whole festive feeling. It might have something to do with the shitty Scotland weather rather some snow for a change. Or maybe because I have to spent Christmas dinner no doubt getting a few comments directed at me from a few members of my family. One of which is my older brother who reacts badly to anything I say back to him. Also I am not a big fan of Christmas dinner.

I'm so sick of the Christmas Season. Honestly, it's the same thing every year. The same songs, that same f#$%ing movie played all damn day long, the same food, the same lights, the same everything.

But, more importantly, I've wanted to be just like Gregory House (from the amazing television show House M.D.) for several years now... calling me a Scrooge just means I'm sucessful.

That is how I been feeling about the holidays for the past few years. I just want it to be over with now so I don't have to put up with it for another day with the annoying Christmas specials of "A Christmas Story" marathon for 24 hours. I avoid going to the malls and putting the radio on just so I don't have to hear the same damn Christmas song being played over and over again. I been called a Scrooge already this year but the Scrooge ends up learning the real meaning of Christmas later on just like in those movies so I rather just being a grinch. =)

"Oh thank,so are you!"
But in fact I'd take it as an insult even though it's not that tragic to make a whole scene.Maybe at first I'd get surprised from hearing that and I'd forget it after a minute.Except if it was someone I really know and meant what that person said to me.Then I'd look into it to see what's wrong with me,lol. It really upsets me when someone points out a bad habit of mine making me want to correct it.
