For the most part, I try to save/hoard money for alcohol, so Il try to buy cheap where ever I can, most of the time this is a good thing. But I have some bathroom scales that I paid £2.99 for and they are a waste of fucking space, inaccurate shits. Yesterday they told me i was bang on 8 stone, then a little later i weighed my self again, and i seem to have put on like 4 lbs out of NOwhere, then this morning I'm 7 stone 12....as mush as Id love to believe that, I know they are telling me fibs :gonk:

Its like butter....cheap butter is rank, so I never buy the cheap shit

Cheap wine aint worth the horrendous hangover either

Hair straighteners too, Id rather pay £100 for some GHD's than a tenner for some shitting crap ones that are... well, crap. My GHD's broke and I was desperate, so I bought some cheap ones off eBay for like a tenner...they arrived and the following day I made myself overdrawn to get some more GHD's (pink ones ) It was worth it ¬_¬

Some things are just worth spending the extra few quid on ¬_¬

Anyone else had any fuck ups with going for the cheaper option?:monster:

I can't say I've ever had any trouble in this area because I always make sure I get the good stuff when it comes to things like electronics and alcohol and such.

I'm a really good saver and if we go shopping we always buy the cheap dish washing liquid and things like that which aren't going to really ruin anything for you.

When it comes to food it's a different story. If you buy cheap ice cream and such you know you won't get as much pleasure out of it as you would if you spent that extra $3 or so.

I always say to myself, "Why buy the cheap crap that you know you're going to hate and throw out or you know it may brake within a few hours of using it, if you just spent that tad extra in order to get a lot more use etc out of it."

It just means that in the end you've wasted the money you've spent, trying to be cheap. <_<

I think we actually bought a heater a while ago and it buggered up on us within days because we bought the cheappie instead of the $50 one.

So luckily for us we got to exchange it and pay the excess.

The extra money you pay is usually the better option with most things. It'll last a lot longer or the food tastes a load better and won't get wasted etc.

Agreed with you there. I used to have a cheap pair of hair straighteners and they were awful, but I got some expensive ones for Christmas, and they work much better xD

I'd agree that you need to spend more money with alcohol and electronics too, for example, I bought a mini-fan out of a poundshop the other week because of the unbearable heat, and it's broken already, while my mum has one from another shop, and it's still working.

Well that's why I usually pay a little more on stuff I care about, like if I want a 24 pack of Budweiser it's more expensive then a 30 pack of Miller High Life here, but I like Budweiser more, lol. But seriously, when it comes to brands, I am pretty picky. If I'm gonna pay money on something, I usually try to do it right. The only thing I'm really cheap about is groceries because usually the shit all taste's the same anyway. But as for other stuff, like deodorant for instance, I always get Old Spide or Axe, because the cheap shit is just gonna ware off an hour later and in the end it wasn't even worth saving the few bucks, that's the only example I can think of right off hand, lmao.

I know that the way I spend money and my general spending habits go, people would consider me to be cheap. I suppose I am in a lot of ways, but I refuse to spend money on things I know I won't enjoy in time or that I don't feel is worth what I'm paying for it.

But that being said, I will spend top dollar on most things I buy, as the less expensive brands will be less effective or will just flat-out suck compared to their higher priced versions of the product. But this isn't for everything. Generally when it comes to food, I'll spend on an actual named brand over the store brand because the quality is just better. But on the same token, I buy store brand vegetable oil because I use it in a fry-o-later anyways, so the high temperature heat will essentially make it a waste of money to spend on a better brand.

Naturally on a higher level, my choices are much different. Let's take a car for instance. Yeah sure car brand A is $10,000 more than car brand B, and it's for the same size car with the same basic drivetrain. Spending that extra $10,000 will buy you a car that will run better and last longer. But not just anyone has an extra $10,000 to spend, so I would totally understand why someone would buy the cheaper one. And in a lot of cases, it's debatable whether the more expensive car will be the better car. Another example I have is that I bought a guitar back in November. Guitar's tend to be pretty pricey when you get into better sounding, better quality ones. I bought a $650 PRS SE Custom. Now, if I bought a starter guitar for $100, it would get me a guitar, but the quality is garbage in the pick-ups, inlays, tuning pegs and either the bridge or the nut. And on top of that, I already had a guitar that's old and the quality has dropped some, why buy a new one that's almost the same as that? But on the same token, spending in excess of $3,000 for a Gibson Les Paul or Fender Stratocaster is out of the question for the simple fact that I don't plan on becoming a performer and that I'm still in the fairly early stages of learning to play. So buying the top quality would be a bad idea for financial reasons.

Yeah, I've typed enough about this, but bottom line, I go with better quality when I do actually breakdown and spend my money. But for some things (generally more expensive things), it's just not worth it.

I will often go for the more expensive option when buying clothes... I'd rather spend £30 on one really nice, durable top and buy a new top once every few months than spend £30 across four months on six nasty tops that don't flatter me and lose their shape easily. I'd rather do more laundry in order to ensure that there's always clean clothing to wear! :lew:

When it comes to hair straighners, yes...I'd rather have GHDs. My cousin used to have cheap straightners so I've seen what they're like and I really don't think they're good for your hair. At all. GHDs should be used in moderation, but I swear cheap straightners will ruin your hair after one use!

When it comes to cars... I think I'll always try to buy them second hand from a garage. I'd buy a good quality car with a guarentee against faults, but it wouldn't have to be anything flashy, with extra gizmos and gadgets. This is a happy medium in between buying something cheap and glitchy from an independent seller and buying a car brand new, which loses £1000s of its value as soon as you drive it away from the carpark.

What else...? Instruments, I suppose! I paid £150 for my electric guitar, I think, which was one of the cheapest you can get new... Since I'm a beginner, this sort of price was certainly enough, but if I were to develop and take guitar up as a proper hobby, I'd save up for something better quality. The quality of an instrument is so important as it affects the sound and playability. One day, I am gonna save up to buy a grand piano! I hope... They're so expensive but the sound is just breathtaking!

Im getting abit snobbier in my clothes buying... for me that just means upgreading from primark to topshop though lol... problem is with primark though, theres not a lot of stuff i buy that lasts very long. Ive had afew brilliant buys, but more often than not the seams start coming away....

Ive not long since invested in another pair of GHDs as well... thats teh 3rd pair im on now, the last ones i bought i ended up taking back to the shop, too cheap lol

Honestly no. We've never had this problem. For example, when I buy my classic ppv DVDs off Amazon, they're usually about 4 dollars each. But they come in top condition, perfect for the collection. At least online, I think it's more about how wise you are. If you do the research, it's almost impossible to get ripped off. So I know I'm getting a quality product for less than 5 dollars.

In stores we've never had a problem either. We really just grab and go. We never have any bad products. Maybe the worst was something like a tear in the wrapping.
