The Square Enix Europe site has recently received an overhaul in site design, that not only introduces a soon to be launched Members Area, but also delivers a statement from President and Representative Director, Yoichi Wada.

Reflecting on 2009 as “a year of change” with the economic world fighting through a period of turbulence, the inauguration of a new president of the United States and a change of government in Japan, Wada titles his statement marking 2010 as “the year of taking root”.

However whilst such periods of change are uncertain as to whether they will help stabilise, or inadvertently cause more issue, Wada comments “Demanding change simply for change’s sake, only invites empty gestures”.

He then turned his attention to the Square Enix Group, and how through several initiatives they have been able to establish a framework that will span the next decade. Such initiatives include the acquisition of Eidos, whom he comments have become “a cornerstone of our overseas strategy”.

He sees the company’s challenge during 2010 as to ensure that such framework is continually strengthened, as well as “pursuing organic interconnectivity between each business unit.”

Continuing he remarks that the future will inevitably increase the convergence between both video games and other digital entertainment content, and that therefore this year should be utilised in taking root and the “environment of change used as an opportunity for establishing a strong foothold with which to lead the global entertainment industry.”

A yeah of change = Ruining SE and turning it into a money grabbing evil corporation. :mokken:

A year of taking root = Changing everything we know and love about FF and SE and throwing them all out the window. :mokken:

We don't like you very much Mr. Wada. -__-

It's probably because it's getting rather late for me now, but I could hardly absorb that information. I read it and it's leaked out. Or maybe that's just because it's Wada speaking some nonsense as always.

What the-?

Oh, right! That makes more sense! But seriously Wada, SE is a games company. Focus more on developing high quality games! I don't need your movies and whatnot, I'm only interested in the games.

I think the whole games being made into movies and movies based on game series needs to be done away with, it's completely pointless and look what happened with The Spirits Within. Admittedly Advent Children sold well but that's most likely because it had "FFVII" in the title and has had about 3 different versions. Gaming companies should just stick to being gaming companies >.>

Se keep producing Games but Ya if they are FF movies I wanna see em bad. Maybe one based on XIII or X or even VIII would be nice! Just not VII anymore :ffs: Also keep making games because thats what we love you for. Yoichi Wada -__-

This sounds a lot like the classic corporate meaningful-sounding meaninglessness to me, except for maybe that bit about video games and other media converging, but stuff like that's been going on for a long time anyway.

Alas, poor Eidos, I knew thee well. Lets hope this "overseas strategy" doesn't include butchering their legendary game series's into a bunch of mass-produced JRPGs. Seriously, the typical Square attitude does not fly with American games.

Idunno, SE just should stick to video games it's what they do best :monster: IMO. The Spirits Within was an epic :fail: I mean they can do what they want I just don't want to see the movie and have to keep looking away because it was just awful. Sometimes the original is a lot better then movies etc(that they base it off of) and I would just hate for that to happen where it ruins the game completely.
