The Square Enix Europe site has recently received an overhaul in site design, that not only introduces a soon to be launched Members Area, but also delivers a statement from President and Representative Director, Yoichi Wada.
Reflecting on 2009 as “a year of change” with the economic world fighting through a period of turbulence, the inauguration of a new president of the United States and a change of government in Japan, Wada titles his statement marking 2010 as “the year of taking root”.
However whilst such periods of change are uncertain as to whether they will help stabilise, or inadvertently cause more issue, Wada comments “Demanding change simply for change’s sake, only invites empty gestures”.
He then turned his attention to the Square Enix Group, and how through several initiatives they have been able to establish a framework that will span the next decade. Such initiatives include the acquisition of Eidos, whom he comments have become “a cornerstone of our overseas strategy”.
He sees the company’s challenge during 2010 as to ensure that such framework is continually strengthened, as well as “pursuing organic interconnectivity between each business unit.”
Continuing he remarks that the future will inevitably increase the convergence between both video games and other digital entertainment content, and that therefore this year should be utilised in taking root and the “environment of change used as an opportunity for establishing a strong foothold with which to lead the global entertainment industry.”
