which do you prefer in a final fantasy game?

Having a world map or not having a world map?

i prefer having a world map, it just adds to the feeling of final fantasy, since its pretty much a stable element of the series. i still dont see why they got rid of it - i mean why change winning forumula?

The lack of a world map is one of the poorer aspects of the newer FF's I think. It helped make the game in the previous ones, and you actually felt like you were exploring the world. Hopefully someone from SE'll see this and take the hint :P

Ya gotta have a world map. Final Fantasy isn't Final Fantasy without one.

Definitely worldmap. I don't mind having one when you're on foot, as long as the areas are broad and non-constricting... but when you're in the air this "Please select a destination" bullcrap has to go.

I agree with Kain here. We need a world map in order to actually feel the Final Fantasy world we play in and see where the characters would explore and travel the areas. I prefer having to control the characters and have them travel/walk throughout the land, visiting towns, caves, mountains, etc. I guess to me, it makes it seem more fun...that you're actually in control of the character's actions and where you want them to go next.

World map definently. Without one, the world feels like one big straight line. XD. And the games feel more like an MMORPG.

And it makes the world feel more real.

Yeah i think i want a world map too. I dout they will ever add these into a final fantasy game again...

Love the world maps in FF games. They just allow you to see how much you've gone through to explore the world that FF has. It let's you see all the places, and it's a great big help. It just adds to the feeling of bein' able to beat the game.

i hope they bring back the world map for final fantasy XIII  because then they could incorporate the summon transformations into it ^_^

i mean surely im not the only one who'd love to see an amazing PS3 graphics world map? :P

It was great in the older FF titles getting in your airship and flying to your next destination or finding some secret islands. That is one major disappointment in FFX and so on. You don't get that much freedom anymore.

You don't get much freedom/finding secret places in XII eh? ;O

Wrong there. I hated world maps. With XII for instance, at least I was actually exploring the world PROPERLY.

well, think of it this way - in ffxii there was no need for a world map when walking, you walked through all the areas in 3d - so it's like the world map was completely in 3d. I mean that was what the world map was in essence, walking from one location to another.

as for flying, yes i'd love to be able to actually control the airship again, bring that back please, but really the old style walking compared to ffxii's....ffxii ftw. Maybe a mix of the ffxii location, with ff7-9's airship control? the ps3 could definitely handle it...

Yeah but you don't get complete control over the airship so if you want to explore an area you have to do it on foot with monsters getting in your way. Regardless if they are easy or not it will get annoying if they continuely get in your way.

World map ftw. The world maps in previous games provided me with a sense of discovery, and I haven't felt that from X on. Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed the games from X on, but I do miss that aspect.

Yes I liked the idea of a world map, actually, I just liked to know where the hell I was and what I was near. A little blinker on a peice of paper was fine. I think the map I liked the most was on FFXII because they showed you where you were supposed to go, also.

AIn't gonna lie, I really hated the travel methods used in FFX and FFXII. Sure the world map can get a bit tedious at times, but it's a lot better to actually be doing the traveling yourself instead of jsut teleporting from here to there.

In FFXII though, I highly prefered using the Teleport Crystals and Stones to travel as opposed to the animation-only airship.
