Yeah i think i want a world map too. I dout they will ever add these into a final fantasy game again...

*sighs*
What if they don't?
I really miss the world map!

Whenever you found out something you've never noticed before (i.e. new location/city/whatever...) it just made it that much more of a personal accomplishment.

And the teleportation in X just made me lose the feel for the game to be honest.

I love having an overworld. ^_^
Having a manual airship or a chocobo that can ride over the world is just great because you can have a birds eye view of the world! ^_^

World map without a doubt! That was my biggest problem with FFX; the fact that you had to follow the route they gave you.
It gives you so much freedom having a world map, you can do whatever the hell you want.
And there's always that feeling of shock when you're level 15 and you somehow come across a monster that could blink and kill you :D

It seems as if lately, the designers are going for a more "realistic" feel. =[

The world maps of old were cool, I still enjoy games which have them due to the old fashioned feel of them.

Around the time of FFX I'd have been strongly against removing them, but after XII my heart has somewhat softened towards the idea of not having them. XII's world wasn't as linear, it actually had room for exploration and was far more grand in scale. It generally felt like the way X's map system was meant to turn out.

Flying the airship was never much of a draw for me, I mean if I'm spending time flying the airship around the world then it probably means that I'm not enjoying the main game too much. ONly exception would be flying around 8's Esthar region and seeing it all built up as skyscrapers and what not, and having a seperate landing pad, that was pretty cool.

Hmmm I agree that FFXII's no world map gameplay wasn't as bad as X...since you had the option of exploring new ereas regardless...

But I still prefer the WM.

I always loved it when you'd fly over a new area and notice a cave or something that you've never explored before. =]

I not only need world maps, I need detailed diagrams of each city and dungeon to not feel completely lost in the massive worlds of Final Fantasy. That had me confused for the longest time in FF 1 until I discovered how to open the map (Tceles nottub b, lol...)

That's what's sad about the newer final fantasys. Being realistic doesn't always mean better. And besides, since when did fantasy and reality mix anyways. Honestly...

:|No world map doesn't suit the series well and they should at least alleviate that problem a bit in upcoming titles.

Least they could do is give us the option of toggling between WM or no WM. =[

I feel the world map is more realistic than the other forms of travel. After all, in X and XII, no matter how big they get, you're always going to have to be confined by mountains, trees, bushes, *sigh*... grass (grass barriers really pissed me off. I can't walk over grass, or shrubs even?!) Until they make an MMORPG feeling map, but one that actually connects like a real, spherical, world would, it's far more realistic to walk on a world map. You're traversing the world after all, not just walkways, trails and other miscellaneous, and very linear, paths.

I'm all for the world map. Until, that is, they make a completely untethered, no paths barred, world. I can see not being able to climb tall mountains, or swim across vast oceans, but to constantly run into trees, rocks, mountains, and such; that really pisses me off. It just takes away from the feel of freedom.

When they do make such a world, I still want my airships that I can actually fly instead of just choosing destinations. I just hope the PS3 is going to be able to actually do all of that. I guess we just have to wait and see.

Well, I do like your ideas, but I doubt they will go back to the world map. It was a great idea, but it would take too long and to make the world map you would have to leave every area open all the time. You know how sometimes you can't go back to a town until you finish a quest or something... You can't do that with a world map.
