Windows Phone 7 is the closest you’ll get to a handheld from Microsoft, says the firm

Microsoft has no plans to release a handled gaming platform. It has said this so many times in the past, we’d spend an entire day adding links to the quotes.
However, if you really want a Microsoft game console to take with you on-the-go, consider the Windows Phone 7 as the closest thing you’ll get to it.

According to Kevin Unangst, who spoke with Kotaku during CES last week, MS’s senior global director of PC and mobile gaming called Windows Phone 7 the firm’s “mobile platform for games” and “the same people who make the Halo game, the same development folks, work on this”.
“This, is our mobile console,” he said.
What this means for the phone, and its owners, is more Xbox Live-enabled games, according to Unangst. This is thanks to the phone having a “number of different models made by a number of different companies”, unlike Apple’s iPhone.
While the phone has gained support from the likes of Electronic Arts and PopCap, big names like Activision and Epic are glaringly absent on the phone’s marketplace.
Epic’s Unreal Engine doesn’t run on the device as of yet, and Unangst said MS “continues to discuss the possibility of bringing the engine behind such titles as Infinity Blade to Windows Phone 7, but that nothing has been agreed upon yet”.
He said Epic would have to make an investment to bring it over, because in order for that to happen, it would have to work with Microsoft’s XNA tools.
Epic’s Mark Rein has said the phone currently “doesn’t support native-code games”, and until Microsoft rectifies the situation “gamers who want the best experiences in mobile gaming” should “stay away from their phones”.
Currently, all Apps created for the phone need to meet “baseline requirements”, and have a “physical camera button and certain internal specs” allowing games to “run at a consistent level”
Microsoft planes to continue evaluating these requirements over time.
The phone currently has 5,500 Apps available and more than 30 developers working on content for it, and since it launched back in November, it has moved over 1.5 million units.

Honeestly...No.
Because look at it this way, Microsoft can't even be bothered making a browser for the 360 not to mention making a handheld!:mad:
one thing that urks me is that, if they have time to make Halo Slimline xboxes then surely they could get off their asses and make a browser.

It's not hard.

no no and no.. i think microsoft need to improve the xbox like adding a web browser before they even think about making an handheld

Exactly. :highfive:

I've been waiting for a browser for a while now and they seem to lack the effort to make one!

3). With the console failure rate, the last thing they need is to worry about handhelds.

This. I have had such problems with the 360's I've owned...its ridiculous.

My first box lasted about 2 years before one of the fans broke...then I moved..and when I picked up playing my games again I heard the last fan constantly running on high while I played. Two months after my move, it officially bit the dust by freezing and locking up after 5 minutes of play on my games and I heard the other fan give out...so I junked it.

I ran out a few days later to pick up another one because I have like 15 or something xbox games...most of which I haven't even played yet. So I get the new one home and I use it for the first time...and the freezing crap is happening again...this time during XIII. Vanille would be mid-skip through the Sunleth Waterscape and the game would completely lock and during the fight scenes I'd stop hearing her and Sazh talking and etc... It got so bad I couldn't even make it to the save points so I took the disc out and looked at it and it had a mass of circular scratches on it...ones that hadn't been there before with the old box. So I get really pissed and mail Microsoft the box, pictures of the disc, and a hate note telling them to fix it...because the NEW BOX was scratching my NEW GAME (and yes I already read about them being able to scratch discs if you bump the machine while playing a game, but I never did). I was sooooooo angry, the box wasn't even but a few days old. So about a couple of weeks later, they mail me a refurb with a free 1 month live card as a small penance.

That box will be the last that I purchase. I've just had it with Microsoft. I think they have gotten so eager to get their money, they put little or no quality into most of the products that they put out nowadays...the Xbox being a textbook classic example. Consider me a Sony fan now. :rage: /end rant.

Tell me how one would even want to own a handheld of theirs after reading about all of the problems a lot of people have had with their Xboxes.

i got to admit.. i'm still on my first box... but it is only a year and a bit old.. but it already red ringed... froze and two red light on me.. (whatever that is) and you get one strach on thedisc.. it never plays again.. i'm already on my second copy of FFXIII and fifa 10

Well we just saw the New generation portable from Sony.. still Xbox still does not have a handheld. An xbox hand held would be pretty weird. I imagine it will happen sometime in the near future. Maybe it will have online capabilities as well. Halo on hand held would be so weird though. I cant even think what it would look like. As for Zune.. Well I think it isn't something spectacular. Not something I would get either. I dont even know what it is really. All I do know is I prefer Iphone/ipods. :griin:.
