I absolutly hated FFtoodamnlasytospellout12inromannumerals. I hope that it is forgotten as a piece of trash never to be looked at again and I hope that all voice actors with the exception of two are thrown into purgatory and die horrible deaths equal to the level of purtrid horror they have released upon the world. With that being said, FF13 will likely either be much much better or only a threshold better, depending on how fast it takes for the character in the beanine to get the ax. WELL thats not really what it counts on- it counts on the combat system.

Turn based combat has served it's purpose faithfuly in the olden days, but I have always disliked the system in favor of others. When I heard that FF12 would be revamping it I pre-ordered. And it followed through- horriably. I won't go into details, but I hated the combat system, and the voice acting to the point that I Stooped somewhere between the castle and the sewers. The only way for me to put my faith back into Square Enix is to put a new one in or have me dis own it.

So all in all, the purpose of this article is to hate on FF12, BUT!
Also to hope the FF13 manages to fix it. Discuss and enlighten me on the systems.

To be honest I hate the voice acting in almost every single SE game. I generally turn it down and just read it like I used to. If the voice acting is good in XIII I will listen to it, but for the most part Square does a horrible job casting voice actors for the North American versions at least in my experience but I haven't played that many games they had voice actors in just about 3 total. I havent played XII yet though because my PS2 broke and I've yet to get a new one. I will eventually play it though. I hope it's not as bad as you say.

As for the battle system here is a link with a description of what FFXIII should be like. I hope that you like it more then XII http://ps3.ign.com/articles/769/769653p1.html

Well, I have to disagree there. I believe Cloud and Sephiroth were voice well as well as Vincent and Cid in Advent Children, and several voices in Dissidia did remarkable. I also believe that Tidus and Vaan's voices should be condemed to listen to a laugh track of 100 baboons being sodomised by power drills for the next millenium or untill I think of something worse to do to them.

As for the article, I can't really judge until I've played it, whitch is why I bought FF12.

I quite liked FFXII overall, so meh. The battle system was refreshing, Ivalice is the best world created yet, and the storyline moved beyond the stadard "hero saves world and falls in love with girl in the meantime" plot element.

My first impression of FFXIII is not a good one. I do not like the sound of the voice acting at all, and the general feel I'm getting of the setting is that it'll be somewhat unoriginal...not to mention the character designs are pretty poor. I already want to stab Oerba. Although that is about it, so its not too much of a first impression. The battle system I'm reserving judgement on until I've played it for a few hours and gotten a feel for it. I've always preferred real-time battles, but it looks like they're putting a lot of effort into it, so I'll at least give it a chance before I condemn it entirely.

To be honest, XIII looks like its going to be everything XII wasn't, which may or may not be a good thing, depending on your point of view. I'd guess from yours, Cardboard~Exodus, it'd be a good thing. We'll see when it comes out, aye?

I agree, though I can't judge the storyline until I quit in blind frustration, Perhaps the Combat will not suck in FF13. As for the characters and other things, I'm hoping for the Seymour-effect: Where someone looks stupid but is really a good character, though I doubt, and the world does look rather bland and uncreative.

Perhaps, though, it's time to lay Final Fantasy down to bed,and then smother it with a pillow.

We'll keep off the "hating FFXII" discussion and reserve this thread for comments about Final Fantasy XIII. Thank you.

We are only comparing the two- since I believe FF12 was horrible, I'm expressing this will either be much better on worse and as such am pointing out why FF12 was bad in my opinion. Thank You.

How can I if you can Delete my posts?

Anywho, any news on the voice actors for the game? Any names that the population of anime loves *Iwillneversayotakueverinmylife* would know?

As I stated, don't start arguing back (or start being sarcastic like you were) and I won't delete them. The large majority of your first post was to bash FFXII like you stated (if you want to do that, take it to the FFXII sectio) and the 2nd post had pretty much nothing to do with the topic at all.

There's no need to reply. You may continue on topic. :)

FF12....yeah... I didnt like it much too. The story itself I thought was good, it was just the way it was told.... it seemed too political, zero character development. the battle system had much potential, it just wasnt properly used in FF12. here's to hoping FF13 does it better. not to mention Vaan is the worst FF protagonist to date -- and he also had potential.
as for the voice acting, are you kidding? not just FF12 but NEARLY all SE games have superb voice acting, trust me. you want bad voice acting? go play Megaman X7

FF13 seems to be delivering on all fronts from what Im seeing so far.... from the voice acting to the graphics and gameplay

I loved XII, and I don't want to go into all the criticisms that have become "the common wisdom" by now, but I never saw any merit in a single one of them.

There seems to be a lot of expectations about XIII, but there's also a lot of hatred towards it, from people who aren't FF fans, the guys who play nothing but HALO and Madden, I expect it from them, but also from older FF fans who are stuck in time on one title that they consider "the best," and they refuse to judge newer titles by their own merits.

I'm probably the weird guy here, but I don't think there's a Final Fantasy that I do not like. The fact is, I've always thought each game has it's own positives and negatives. I like FF8 the least because of the Junction system (sad as it is, I can't get over it), but the story and music were great. I like the newer Final Fantasies more than the older ones because I started playing with the newer ones, but each game has it's own good and bad parts.

Each game has it's merits, and each game is great in its own way--I do think that there is some merit to complaints against a game, but they're personal. They're passing. Unless the entire fandom rises up against a particular game, there really isn't a bad one out of the bunch.
And that would include FFX-2. x3 Yeah, the story wasn't great, but the gameplay was cool. Then again, this was before I played FF5, and I did say there really isn't a Final Fantasy that I didn't like...

...Anyway, I digress...
Some of the voice acting can be sucky--I will say that--but I've always thought that it's been pretty good for the most part. I never get it when anime enthusiasts and gamers rant and rave about "bad" voice acting, especially for a game that hasn't even come out yet. Generally, this is also the case for Dubs-versus-Subs--who say's the Japanese voices are better than the English ones?

It's a matter of preference.

I personally think that the voices for the main characters in XIII actually fit them. Taken from the English trailers, Lightning's voice is spot on, and so is Snow's. Oerba dia Vanille's and Sazh's voice actors were good choices, as well. We haven't heard much from Fang, but what we have heard, I agree with, and while it doesn't quite fit, I think Hope's voice actor will be good, as well.

The thing is, we really need to hold back judging the game until it actually comes out and we've played it. We won't get anything good out of hyping the game up or putting it down before we've even played it. The game will not live up to our expectations. It will not be the orgasmic experience some people are making it out to be. I'll be happy if the game is just something that I just can't put down, no matter how hungry I am.

On a related matter, though...I still think it's going to be awesome. I really like where the game takes place (it's setting), and what it seems to be about--a fight against Fate. The music is great, the graphics are phenomenal...whatever bad parts it might have, it's still going to be a great game.

Honestly as long as the voice-acting is far from anime cartoon style I will be happy. Anime has the most annoying trend for casting voice actors. It's like they think "ok lets get all of the most annoying voices and put them in one show or film". Really if it's far away from that style I'm sure it will be perfectly bearable. Judging by the trailers the voice acting will be pretty fitting for the game and not very bad at all. All of the voices sound pretty close to someone I could meet in my everyday life. Maybe a little different in accent because even each region of the US speaks slightly different.

Wait wait wait. You stopped in the first part of the game? How can you possibly judge a game based off of the first 10 minutes? You didn't even get into the depth of the game or get to experience the story. I loved XII, in fact, there hasn't been a Final Fantasy I haven't at least liked. I implore you to go back and try to get back into the game. It really doesn't disappoint once you get deep into it.

Agree with the above statement ^^, don't judge a game by a short amount of playing space it's almost like judging a book only by looking at it's cover or very first pages.
Dislike like FF12 like there is no tomorrow, and like you want scream out for it being so frustrating. Though have played through FF12 5 times ?, I gave the game 5- 4 second chances and made sure that it was a few hours into it before dropping the hate, there is a few players out there that really disliked FF12 but they gave it a few chances, and now it's one of their favourite Final Fantasies. ^^

Think the main key to FF12 is noticing that its really different and almost like playing a whole different game that just seems to belong a group of series. Recommend giving the game a second chance, because yeah the start/ beginning of the game is kind of tedious/ slow compared to it's older brothers before that...

On the Subject of 13, it looks really promising and kind of back on the format of the old Final Fantasy style and storyline. Is really positive, that FF13 is going to turn out great ! ^^

And if it fails then.. (shrugs shoulders ) then there is always FF15, I guess..

This is the 2nd weirdest title for a thread I have ever seen.

I do believe though that most people go into anticipating a game thinking it will either suck or be great. I mean it happens, but I think fanboys, fans in general usually don't look forward to "mediocre". What I mean is, they think that either the game will be more than they expected, or disappointing.

I had HUGE expectations for FFXII as soon as it was first announced the beginning of the decade. However, I felt it was, eh, a mediocre FF game. I mean I love it, don't get me wrong, but I wouldn't say it made "my prostate explode with glee".

I think this game will be great. Not sure if it will be the best, or close to it, but I doubt by far that it will suck. I expect many happy fans after they play through it their first time.

That why I don't check games out till I get enough money to buy one. That and I don't want to be longing for a game I may not get for a long time. I get the benefit of avoiding the hype.

Oh dear heavens the mods on this site are really strict so much that I am kinda turned off to the site a tad sadly :( Anywho, I am concerned about XIII and it's because of XII, so sorry can't leave that out of the topic if you guys want me to explain every sentence. When I played XII I felt like someone had killed the series I'd come to love. It was a sad day. Now, I wonder if SE can ever bounce back which has me beyond skeptical for XIII. It's interesting that they are using a main female. Fang looks pretty neat. I don't see what the problem is that some are having with character design. As for VA, can't say, haven't heard any. Tbh, I was so disappointed by their last endeavor, I'm not really excited about this one. Also, the summons sound more like Transformers than fantasy creatures. I very much miss random, new screen battles as well.......

Excuse me, we're not really strict. The topic is about the game, NOT the staff. Don't be too quick to judge the moderators by their actions, we're only doing our job.

On topic, this thread is quite amusing to say the least. Whoever judges the next Final Fantasy by slating the previous one is absurd in their own mind. Each one is completely different in their own way, although they may share some if not a few similarities. I for one like XII and am still trying to get to the end since it's only my first game on it. XIII doesn't look too bad, but I tend to like to stay away from trailers and pictures since I like to actually pick up a game without tending to know too much about them.
