As the title States, list your top 5 Heroes and Villians of the FF series so far, and a little bit as to why they made it into your top 5, here's mine :

Top 5 Heroes:

1. Cecil Harvey, all together a fantastically realised and planned out character, Cecil is one of the few Heroes of circumstance that really stands out.

2. Auron, Silent strength and an excellent story, I love how he plays a mentor throughout FFX as he guides Tidus and Yuna on there journey, allowing them to make there own minds up but at the same time always knowing the journeys eventual end.

3. Shadow, the best ninja of any gaming series for my money, his tragic story really give him depth yet he still remains true to his art, he makes Hyabusa look like a pretender.

4. Terra Branford, although I generally didn't like her character at first, she was one of the first characters to evolve greatly throughout the course of the story, it was like the telling of the coming of age as she grew from a frightened little girl, to a powerful and brave young woman.

5. Vivi, One of the best black mage characters in all the FF series and spin-offs combined, despite his "cutesy" appearance and clumsiness, his story was brilliant and the little guy really did pack on hell of a punch :)

Top 5 Villians:

1. Kefka, who cant love the crazed crown that brought an entire world to its knees? even today I still want to know more about him, his dialog with Terra in dissidia only compels me to enjoy the depth of his character more.

2. Golbez, an amazing villian for an amazing game, and he wasn't even the head honcho, one of the few classic "brother" twists that did not make me sigh in disgust, who can forget his brilliant dialog?

3. Gilgamesh, although a secret boss in 12 and a mid-boss in 5, Gilgamesh has left a lasting impact with his well designed character and dialog, I still suffer from disapointment at Gilgamesh not making it into Dissidia as a playable character.

4. Jecht, an excellent villian of circumstance he definatley has one of the better crafted dialogs and stories of the newer generation of FF games.

5. Sephiroth, despite the fact I have begun to dislike SE pushing him in our faces with every new spin-off, He still remains one of the few villians that really made you utter the word "bastard" under your breath, he more than deserves his iconic status, but SE really should lay off him for a while and give another popular villain of the series there time to shine (heres looking at you kefka ;P)

Now its your turn :)

HEROES:

1. Cecil Harvey - In the world of JRPGs, almost every single protagonist is some sort of whiny androgynous Teenager with spikey hair and is Emo/Stupid/Obnoxious. Cecil Breaks that mold so effortlessly that it takes everything out of it's league.

2. General Leo - On dosen't need to be a main character to be a hero, and Leo is likely the most deserving of all of the characters in Final Fantasy IV. Leo, being one of the only kind people to Terra in her life with Kefka, Died during a mission of goodwill with the Espers, and was slain by Kefka Palazzo.

3. Biggs and Wedge - I am the biggest Star Wars fan in the world, and thus, this reference made me jump for joy when I saw the duo in the walkers in the opening for IV, to the Chocobos in X.

4. Umaro - Normaly, I would have put Terra here, but the ape reins supreme for a quote I made with my friends one night when playing FFIV, and has since then been a 'secret handshake' esque thing with them - "I CANNOT FIND THAT BIG NAKED BEAR, WHERE THE FUCK IS HE?!?!?" ~ Said during the search for him.

5. Auron - For a cliche, Auron pulls it off excellently, making it seem less like a plot device or anything predictable, to a very human and, of course, awesome character.

VILLIANS:

1. Kefka Palazzo - If you have read my 'Light of Judgement > Supernova' Thread, you know how highly I think of Kefka. He breaks the mold of ever FF villian by being Loud, Short Tempered, and comical as apposed to the rest of the emo/power-hungry calm people in the games. There are a thousand other points, but I could right a book with it, so I'll stop.

2. Exdeath - Exdeath wants to stop existance, pure and simple. He does so with such tenacity and a judgemental attitude to the point where he seems like Darth Vader. Besides, he had Gilgamesh as a second bannana, so that alone is kinda cool.

3. Emporer Gestahl - Gestahl is in some ways more dispicable then Kefka, in that he, in a sense, created Kefka as well as Terra in a way. Sitting atop his throne pulling all the strings of the nation, I found myself enjoying the show as he was put to death by the Mad Mage, Kefka. "YOU ARE LESS THEN WORTHLESS!"

4. Seymour Guado - Seymour is one of the evilest characters of FF, pulling all the strings and having the absolute coolest summon in FF ever, Anima, Seymour is so disgusting he attempted to have the game's female protagonist, Yuna, to wed him in order to use her to become Sin, making him look pathetic in his presence.

5. Sephiroth - I will be the first to admit how much I hate hate hate hate HATE Sephiroth, but anyone that can incur so much hate from me is a true villian, even if he is utterly cliche and overated.

Heroes
:

1) Zell: Just for his crazy and fun personality. He was always up beat and positive and just a fun character to have around in FFVIII. Plus, he was my strongest character in the game. =p

2) Basch: He was strong willed and confident in his presence. He was just an all around good character that FFXII needed to have. I loved the way he talked and just the way he looked.

3) Balthier: What more do I have to say besides his name? lol. Accent. Looks. Skills with guns. Nuff Said.

4) Rikku: I've always loved Rikku. She was just an amazing add to X. She may have a tendency to be over hyper at times but that is what makes her Rikku.

5) Tifa: She was a strong girl. I never played with her in FFVII but I loved how she carried herself and how she fought. Especially in FFVII: AC. She was total badass.

Villans:

1) Seymour: I lovvved the villian Seymour in X. He was sadistic and never ending. Very witty and clever. Just an all around good villian.

2) Edea: Her love for the kids but also her evil ways. I remember when I first played the game her presence gave me chills! lol.

3) Beatrix: Beautiful.....that's it. =D.

4) Kuja: Just freakin crazy. He is up there with Seymour in that sense. Maybe even a bit more sadistic at some point. lol.

5) Seymour: What's a list without seymour? lol. He is an all around bad ass. The only villian to kill a main character. What else can ya say? lol.

Did you mean Sephiroth? You listed Seymour twice and said he killed a main character for the last one, so I'm thinking that you meant Sephiroth (for the killing of the flower girl), right?

Heroes:

1. Ashelia B'nargin Dalmasca - I love how she totally usurped Vaan's role as the main character from the moment she showed herself. She was much more interesting, extremely well spoken, strong-willed and independant, unlike the majority of the FF females, who seem to need a male to romantically attach themselves to to develop any sort of character at all.

2. Ramza Beoulve - Ramza's character, at first, annoyed me. The standard noble son fighting for his family name. Been there, done that, seen several crappy t-shirts for sale, etc. However, he changed quite a bit, and the end result for his character was, I thought, quite surprising and very well illustrated. Misunderstood heroes are so much better when you go through the journey with them.

3. Zack Fair - Part of the appeal of Crisis Core was playing as Zack who, it turned out, had more personality than Cloud ever has. Unlike Tidus, who got on my nerves, he was a likeable optimist, and his relationship with Aerith was much more mature and not quite as big a part of his character as is the norm for FF. He was a refreshing change, and he went through a great deal over the course of Crisis Core.

4. Selphie Tilmitt - I've adored Selphie since she made her grand debut by falling off a small cliff. She was a light-hearted presence in what was otherwise quite a miserable game. Sure, FFVIII also had Zell, but he was just loud. Selphie just appeals more to me, I suppose. Not to mention she had some very amusing lines...

5. Kain - A lot of people overlook Kain in favour of Cecil, although I find Kain much more interesting. He's put in a very difficult position, and his character is just as complex, if not more so, than Cecil's.

Villains:

1. Kefka - Kefka is unlike any other FF villain in that he actually SUCCEEDS in his ambitions. Granted, he gets defeated like all the rest, but his success is what is important. Not to mention he's completely insane. The dialogue with him, his disturbingly comic theme tune, his insanely long and oddly titled boss theme, his final form...Kefka is definetely a villain to remember. I loved his Dissidia voice actor, as well. Asides from Lezard Valeth, there is nobody crazier. Kefka humming the FF victory theme is one of the best moments in the game for me.

2. Genesis - Genesis, in my opinion, is far greater a villain than Sephiroth has ever been. Sephiroth is too blatant in his objectives, and Crisis Core lowered my opinion of him considerably. Genesis is much classier, his character design is a lot less bland, and his motives are just much more believable. Its just a shame he wasn't in Crisis Core as much as he could have been.

3. Seymour - Seymour's chilling aristocratic demeanour, sinister plotting and absolute refusal to just STAY DEAD made him an instant favourite of mine. His philosophy of life and death was appealing as well, and you could almost classify him as a protagonist if you took a different perspective. He has quite a tragic past, and really he just made some morally questionable choices. I don't consider morals to be relevant, so...

4. Gilgamesh - I've always loved Gilgmesh, he's a complete joker. Some of the things he came out with in FFV were priceless, his sending Seifer blasting off in FFVIII was completely unexpected and extremely welcome, and it was great seeing him back in FFXII. I love his battle theme, as well.

5. Vayne Solidor - Ah, Vayne. He thinks himself both Hamlet and Claudius. Only, unlike Hamlet, he does not procrastinate to the point where you want to strangle him. He is your typical politician, playing the game in whatever way suits him. His desire to protect Larsa from the same corruption as him made him an interesting character, because it made me wonder - is he really such a villain? SOMEONE had to do what he did, perhaps it was better that it was him than his brother. He made some brilliant speeches, as well. I was drawn to him in the same way I was drawn to Ashe, because I just love the way they all speak in FFXII.

HEROES:

Terra over all she just kicks Ass, I mean look how women have been treated in the Gaming world, Big Breasts skimpy clothes and always being really weak and such a cry baby. Terra was a breath of fresh air from all the stereo types.

Cloud: Well he was a really great character come the start of FFVII back in '97, but since then he became and over-used card I think, but good 'ole Cloud Stife is still as kick ass as he always was, I got the same vibe from AC and the KH series too but people fan over this game way too much, but he's still a good character.

Tidus: What can I say the only FF guy who can pull of being upbeat and cheerful at the same time still being kind of - dare I say it cool? And I have to give him credit for actually kissing the girl he like took the FF guys long enough XD This and he has a Kick ass overdrive.

Yuffie: Can she even Count? Well fare enough I still love this Character, Her over all motives in FFVII gave her her own unique sparkle and kept her that way through FFVII I love how she wasn't weak and Mary-Sue and kicked complete ass all while trying to steal some Materia.

Vincent: He was the only FFVII caharcter that remains un-ruined by the sequels Vincent and his game kicked ass, there was a little too much Lurecia for me but all of that aside the game was actually good, and vincent despite a few corny lines was still vincent

VILLIANS:

Sephiroth: Words cannot describe the many ways Sephiroth made villias into a new thing, Sephiroth re-invented being a Villian, I mean killing a woman whilst she pray? Doesn't get any more Villianous than that :woo: I'm sorry I love Aerith but I love sephy more <3

Kefka: Old school kefka is all right by me, but new revised kefka irks me to "no end". I really hated how they made Kefka out to be the Joker when he was never like that, but old kill with out mercy kefka is still the awesome kefka we remember.

Edea: She was cool while she was still a villian, I mean she stabbed Rinoa's boyfriend right infront of her eyes pretty bitchin' villian, she comes close to my sephy.

Jecht: 'Nuff said. I love Jecht I love him so much he makes me forget that it was actually Seymore who was FFX's villian XD wait no it was Sin well either way he out does both Sin and Seymore.

Kuja: I always thought it seemd like a girl but he was fun to beat and play as in Dissidia, It gave me some insight into hsi character, and I found myslef enjoying his character :neomon:

1) Is in the Cecil Harvey is the best bandwagon. He just seems like the prefect hero because he seems to take care of anybody (age, gender, personality ) it doesn't matter for him and he does seem like the shy. not confident character but he haves heaps of courage and does things that most people wouldn't be able to do ( like stand up to a King IV is set in medieval times and standing up to royalty usually means death, standing up to Banon like that took GUTS.. )

2) Zidane Tribal. Zidane is second place because enjoyed/ loved how he helped others in need. He didn't even want to !, he just did it !. Not to mention his cheeky personality and his great comic relief =D and he can be serious when he needs be..

3) Cloud. Cloud is a character that isn't really a hero but he wants to be a hero and he is just a victim of some horrible events that he doesn't mean to be apart of. But Cloud is 3rd place, because he is so human. Cloud is the opposite of a prefect hero and he makes some huge mistakes, and he ends up having some huge regrets.Cloud is the un-prefect hero, which makes him the prefect hero.

4) Terra. Terra starts out used, confused, shy and a little bit of a pushover.. but Terra really grows as a character and like
Fiore di Neve said, she breaks the stereotypical mode of a damsel of distress, and she becomes a strong leader of the group and tough mentally and physically and she gains a good power of strength to lead the FF6 group.

5) Bartz. Just love Bartz because of his comic relief and humor he brings, Bartz is just the hero that is bound to make you laugh. But Bartz because of his Fathers death he gains a serious side, making the character to make you also cry out for his sorrows.
Bartz is the type of hero that will turn your emotions around ( in a healthy way ) alot of players dislike Bartz because they believe that he is a little stereotypical, but don't believe in that theory, but can see where they are coming from..

--- Villains---

1) Is Biased, I like Kuja from FF IX, He is so unique and refreshing and is the prefect target for online jokes. ( Usually, about his- (lack of )- clothing.. ) xDD

2) Golbez- I DID NOT COME TO TREAT WITH WORMS- !
Sorry, just love his bad puns. And guess he has quite a epic theme song, too. ^^

3) Garland. Put Garland in 3rd place because his character is pretty deep for a game that was created 22, 23 years ago ? And his motives were creative and unoriginal during the decade that his character was created, controlling time past and present and basically being the evil king for all of time, no stopping. Pretty Clever !!!

4) Prof Hojo. Yeah Hojo instead of Sephiroth, people forget sometimes how twisted and sadistic Hojo actually was. He messed up Vincent's life and threw Lucredia into a life of regret, he made Vincent suffer for decade of years and not to mention he was the reason for putting Jenova cells into Cloud's body, making him the reason for Clouds later screwed up behavior, and because he messed up Lucredia Sephiroth was born into a screwed- up life and burned down Nibleheim because of how confused he was [ Because of how Hojo messed with things before he was born..]

5) Seymour . Was he just misunderstood ? even so, Seymour did some terrible things and he used the power role of a main world/ Spira leader to screw with people's life's.
He used his powers to mess with the whole entire Spira and basically use the people of Spira like dancing puppets on a string, and Yuna being his favourite tool to mess with.

HEROES
1)Kain Highwind - He's a complex character and his complexity is endearing.

2)Auron - He's badass. The VA's badass. His hair is badass. Thus, I declare my love for the tanker of FFX. Auron's the experienced-voice of the group, he knew more than the other characters guessed and they already have such a high opinion of him.

3)Cid Highwind - The bow-legged pilot of Final Fantasy. He's a great comic relief and the story with him and Shera and his rocket has the perfect amount of mush. Even though he's not a great character battle-wise, it's fun to see him in the battle screen with his cigarette dangling from his mouth.

4)Celes - She was already a general of an empire and she could turn her back and abandon that position just because she felt that the empire's policy were against her moral beliefs. She's generally too one-dimensional in my opinion, but her story in the game is an interesting one.

5)Basch - Not one time does he abandon his duty and honour. Another too-good-to-be-true character that I admire. His brother has a cool armour, so that further improved my opinion of him. :awesome:

VILLAINS

1)Kefka - His lines are great! He's the only villain that managed to destroy the world and he had a cult worshiping him.
2)Jecht - He's complex and MANLY. Surely, a man who is able to make another man cry is macho.
3)Seymour - Having a terrible childhood where he's exiled from Guadosalam and rejected by Guados only makes him what he is in the story. He's a sick villain and he even forced a girl to marry him so that he could destroy the world.
4)Kuja - He's effeminate (a thing that I do not prefer to be present in men), but he's a complex character. He helped Zidane knowing that his life may be over soon.
5)Exdeath - The tree of death created by Enuo. He's evil to the core and embodies evil. Neo-exdeath is a tough one to beat and that makes him a great final boss.

Sephiroth totally has the Darth Vader effect. I would say he's about tied with Kefka because you gotta love the Kefka laugh.

Next up would be Sin, what an incredible villian.

Heroes are a bit harder for me. I do know that I like the gang from Final Fantasy 7 alot. Squall with his Gunblade is up there too. Locke would probbaly be third, you gotta love a ninja with a badass dog.

Heroes:

1. Squall Leonheart: I love the way he thinks of social interaction and life in general. He often has a point, but of course it is very unrealistic to actually follow these idea's. I like how he doesn't need to be the one who is constantly talking, like most protagonists do in rpg's.

2. Yuna: A character who tries to maintain her grace under pressure, but in the end dares to question her faith and the path she has taken in life. Great story development.

3. Auron: Despite the fact that he is of the 'strong and silent type' cliché, I quickly grew quite fond of sir Auron while playing FFX.

4. Cid Highwind: I like the roll 'n roll style of attitude Cid has. I defenitely can imagine the raw smoke 'n whiskey voice that has to go with his lines.

5. Freya or Ashe, can't decide. Both of them have a certain flair.

Villians:

1. Kuja: Kuja is girlish and stylish with a dark flavour, the same reason I dig visual kei rockstars.

2. Kefka: Evil clown type characters are often very lame, Kefka is a brilliant exception pn that rule.

3. Sin: I tend to see Sin more as a force of nature that destroys everything in it's path then a intelligent villiain with a plan, which makes Sin seem even more inevitable and intruiging. But then again, I'm also quite intrigued by Moby Dick :)

4. Edea: I like Edea's style and coldness when she is your nemesis. Too bad she sounds a bit like a wimp when she goes back to her old self.

5: Queen Brahne: Queen Brahne looks so repulsive, ugly and over the top posh but shows how far one can go when desire and greed are pushed. Also, Queen Brahne is a villian who only has political power and economical power, instead of a villian who relies on his/her own superpowers/magic. (Yes I know she uses eidolons and armies, but these are bought with money, so that'd economical power to me.) Too bad you don't fight her in the game, I'd love to spear and fry the elephant lady.

Heroes:
Zell- he's energetic, he's eager, and he's got fists of fury. His intentions are always good and he has some badass limitbreaks

Yuna- Aside from the fact that she's a summoner, she was the most willed character in the X series. She had the most depth as a individual and gave the X-2's almost bland storyline a little life.

Basch- He was a badass in every sense of the word, the Bruce Willis of FF characters. He didn't care that he was marked as a traitor, he had the desire to set the world right. He fought more for others than for himself, and is an inspiring character in my opinion.

Squall- He's "mysterious" the most established leader of any final fantasy playable character, he ran an entire floating community and no one questioned him, and anyone who can take a gunblade to the face and then get back up and fight again is awesome

Vivi- his sense of justice and his compassion make him one of my favorite characters

VILLAINS:
Sephiroth- does anyone else piss themselves when they hear One Winged Angel, if you don't then there's something wrong with you, Sephiroth is the most frightening villain ever!

Ultimecia- she wanted to combine all eras of time and erase all existence but hers don't mess with her

Garland- He went back in time and created a time loop so he could live forever, who does that?

Edea- When she was a villain she scared me, she was cold and ruthless and could send flying ice shards through your heart. She had demonic chanting in her background for a reason

Kuja- He was crafty and manipulative and there is no worse enemy to have than someone who can out-smart you and out-muscle you at the same time, sure he was a little girly but he'd cut you in half if he could.

Heroes

+Balthier- Yes Balthier, there is a conflict going on- yet the crafty sky pirate still longs to find valuable treasure, even going as far as asking for Ashe's ring until he finds something more valuable. He is simply an awesome figure in FFXII. I loved his witty delivered lines and just generally how cool he is even in the most heated situations.

+Terra- I love her design- she was a breath of fresh air for the series. She is rather annoying at the beginning because she seems frequently frightened and confused- but I love how she blossoms into a more confident and assertive character. I am a big fan of Moogles- and so is Terra because of her fondness for them!

+Auron- I like him purely because he is very physically powerful with his sword and how he seems rather authoritative out of the party. He in a way, serves as Tidus's mentor at a few times to show him the real Jecht. Also, I love how he keeps his cool even in Bevelle- and his later anger at Seymour.

+Zidane- After Cloud and Squall, Zidane proved to be a very fresh protagonist. He is optimistic and cheerful, much unlike Cloud and Squall. His monkey tail seems odd at first, but I found it rather cute. He's rather perverted at times particularly towards Garnet and I admire his determination to protect her.

+Celes- It's touching how she appears to be a cold, and seemingly antagonistic character at first, and I like her development into a more caring character, particularly towards Locke. Her backstory is rather touching as well. Her best part is probably in the infamous opera.

Villains

+Kefka- To put it simply- he is an absolute loony. An absolutely powerful loony of a clown. He actually enjoys committing atrocities- and these atrocities are indeed horrific. He has comedic value as well which is unusual for a FF villain. Also, his plans to destroy the world succeeds. He doesn't fit into that "all-talk-but-no-action" category.

+Bergan- He is technically the greatest of the Judge Magisters. He is really powerful- the strongest of the five. Though I hate what he does to Drace, it really shows his utmost loyalty to Vayne and the extent of his ruthlessness. And that's what a FF villain should be like.

+Vayne- Some people find him boring. I find his intentions rather noble despite his villainy. Overall he wants to cease the Occuria's grip on mankind through his empire. Like Bergan, I like how utterly remorseless and ruthless he is- even going as far as assassinating close people.

+Kuja- I had no real issues with his effeminate appearance and tendencies- I see a real, destructive villain within. The scene outside the Iifa Tree truly conveys his capabilities by capturing summons. What he does on Terra shows the real destruction he is capable of.

+Seymour- I find his intentions a stroke of genius- life is all suffering, so death is a way out of suffering! I particularly find it touching how his status and past helped contort Seymour into the maniac he is. I like the fact that he's a recurring villain- shifting through different forms each time.

Heroes
- Lulu
As Final Fantasy X was my first Final Fantasy game. The female cast of that game had me in ropes. Lulu ended up taking me to a whole other level of affection. He attitude towards Tidus in the beginning was quite cold, but as the story developed she seemed to gain some respect for him and changed her personality. She also seemed like the typical big sister character towards Yuna in the entire game, not being to forward but alittle to the side.

- Rikku
Another FFX girl up on my list. As the games cheerful member she really did surprise how well she actually fit into the already huge drama going on. She is one of the Al Bhed and get's treated with some racism due to Wakka, but still manages to stay cheerful and happy. The fact that she is one of the people that tries the hardest to find a way to get rid of sin without Yuna completing her mission. She is also the only character that kept her character in order in FFX-2 (shame on you Yuna and your sexy hotpants.).

- Paine
*shock* Probaply did not see this coming, but to tell the truth Paine is one of my favorite characters. If you play a 100% playthrough of that game (meaning if you actually like the game) you will understand that she's quite the character. Going through what she did and ended up becoming quite the cold hearted girl, and warms up step by step towards the end of the game to become who she really is. She has that Lulu factor I guess.. and the leather..

- Balthier
I think this must be my favorite male character from the games I played (or played more than 3 times). Being a man of simple needs and has his witty sentences which makes him easily loveable. Not to mention his hotness in a nutshell.

- Zidane
I can't explain it. Let's just say it's not FF related.
:yaoi:

Villains
- Seymour.
Ho Ho Ho, this my friends is my favorite villain of all time. He's arrogance and grace is almost perfect and his decieving nature is almost hypnotic. He could marry me and make me his husband and we could destroy Spira anytime. He did anger me quite alot throughout the game as he never would die that bastard!

- Kuja
Oh yes, the one I thought was a hot woman was really a even hotter guy is on the list aswell. The fact that his villainess is driven by some jealousy is quite astonishing. I like him as a villain.

- Ultimecia
This was not a hard choice as she is my favorite female villain. Bewitching and atleast to me the typical sacrastic woman that is out to kill the main characters for her own lives safety. She had a valid reason to be a bad bad woman.

- Sephiroth
Your coming here you long haired bastard. Yes this white haired favorite of many ends up as my fourth. I don't particulary like him all to mutch, but his still a awesome villain. I mean come on, coming out of flames ready to stab the entire main character cast with his huge sword is intimidating.

- Tidus
Yes in my eyes you are a villain. I don't care how bad your father treated you, I don't care that you got sucked into another timeline and got the girl in the end. But please god don't mention it in every god damn cutscene for flip sake that you detest your father couse we all know in the end you love him. *slap* There is a reason I killed you in every boss fight and had a all girls team.

Heroes:

1) Squall. I just love him, I felt that the rivalry between him and Seifer was the best within the whole series. It was so deep, stemming right back from childhood as opposed to most of the other rivalries in game. Plus, I loved the way his character developed over the course of the game, going from loner to friendly... I just love him!

2) Vivi. The little guy is just fantastic, and also possibly one of my favourite ever characters in combat as well. Not to mention him being strong enough to cope with the fact that he was made.

3) Garnet. My favourite girl in the whole FF series, she was also possibly the most strong-willed (apart from maybe Ashe in XII). I'm also one of the few fans of her short hair, rather than the long hair... one of my favourite scenes in the whole game is when she slices off her hair.

4) Fran. She and Vivi are my favourite non-humans in the series. I just love her independance, and the way she left her home to go the way she wanted to go. Plus, she and Balthier are quite cute :3

5) Zidane. He was, as somebody else said, a change from Cloud and Squall - the opposite of them. He showed emotion and feelings for others from the very start and I like the way he turned from being a womaniser to totally falling in love with Garnet ^__^

Villains

1) The Turks (especially Tseng). I know they're not really villains, but since you do fight them, I guess they fall under this category. I like the way they know what they're doing is wrong, even though they're forced to do it. This is especially shown in Last Order when Tseng tries to save Zack and Cloud. Plus, Reno and Rude are so funny together.

2) Seifer. Again, I thought the rivalry between him and Squall was really good, the fact that he was once with Rinoa adding to that. It was deeper than other rivalries. Plus, I like the way that he was
happy at the end, reunited with Raijin and Fujin instead of being killed
.

3) Sephiroth. Does it really need explaining? I didn't like his character, but him as a villain was amazing (which I'm sure is the intention.)
I liked the fact that he was the final battle, as opposed to IX when it's not the main villain... I always found Necron a little random for a final boss.

4) Gabranth. This one, I really don't understand myself... my favourite judge in XII, I just always liked him for some reason.

5) Kuja. Funnily enough, I never thought he was a woman, but his femine looks made me love him straight away. He was just awesome, I liked his character change at the end when he realised what he'd done was wrong.

Heroes

Vivi- This guy is incredibly underrated. He basically spends the game barely aware of the fact that he's even moving. His 'friends' don't know how to treat or deal with him and even the people he considers his family had been trying to kill him. But he never truly strays from the people he loves, even if they do not return it.

Bareet- This was the guy that's so far kept me playing.
Exaggeration. In all seriousness, he was a great deal of comic relief and I truly think he is the heart and soul of the team. He's kind of like Mr T, but even more awsome. And, like most of the characters, his heart and backstory are incredibly heartwarming.

Beatrix- She's strong in will, form, and morals, even if they're wrong. And I feel she's one of those characters who has such a strong development throughout the story. It's a real shame because I do see her as a hero as opposed to a villain and it would have been better to have her become a sort of mentor to Garnet as a member of the party, but of course the Eiko story is needed to add a counterpart to Vivi. Bleh.

Steiner- Probably my favourite character so far in the ffverse. He's so goofy yet so stalwart, so clumsy yet so determined to keep himself looking good to the people he wants to protect. He probably goes through the biggest change of the entire roster, from stuffy and pompous knight to tender and devoted friend, and even implied husband.

Tidus- I really love this guy because of what he brought to the FF expereince. Most of the other FF heroes start out very aquainted with the world they're in. They're not as easy to relate to as much as the supporting characters and the distance is pretty much kept. However Tidus really feels like he's walking you through the motions. You're properly having the same reactions as he is and thinking the same things. His design is great and he's just generally intriguing.

Villains

Kuja- a true spoony bard, this one. He manages to make himself so easy to agree with, his abilities as a master orator surpassing any of the other characters in his world. However this is where kuja fails- while he is the only true great speaker of the cast, he lacks the ability to express his emotions as well and as simply as the other characters. His refusal to accept his primal instincts and understandings in the first half of the game prove his deterioration, and eventually force him to succumb to his original purpose.

Zorn and Thorn- Lawd, I love these guys. They're sinister, fun, and rather scary. They may be henchman material but they could certainly strike out on their own if they wished to. Zorn always struck me as the right thinking brains of the two with the more sinister make up.

Kefka- Haven't played the game, but know all about the character, and I love him. I was a major fan of Batman, and still am, and love the character of the Joker. Why? Because the joker represents what can happen to a man if he just gives up. I didn't get it at the time, but I now know that when someone breaks, they just give up and release the aggression as laughter. The clown make up is just an excuse to hide the true reasons behind it being more than a gimmick, and with this excuse Kefka I gather is able to do as he pleases, his acts all simply labelling him as a madman.

Garland- He will knock you dahn!

This character is more interesting to me if you go by the logic that he exists in FFIX. He seems to be on a stange agenda that I tried to flesh out in my Claymation project. He's not truly evil, perhaps, but eventually decides that the world has decided he os the bad guy, and therefore he must answer that response.

Rufus Shinra- Granted, I haven't fully finished the game yet, but Rufus has so far proven very interesting. He seems to echo a lot of real problems- 'better the devil you know.' Once the original president is gone and he steps in, what you think might be better just gets a whole lot worse. His demanour and look is also very slick which represents the steps SHINRA is taking to further its plans.

Heroes:
  1. Zidane (IX) - For once we didn't get a sulky emo kid with issues, we got a funny, horny amazing hero with a really good storyline!
  2. Rikku (X) - As soon as she was introduced I adored her! She could possibly be my favourite female hero! Did not like what they did with her in FFX-2 though.
  3. Garnet/Dagger (IX) - I don't know what it is about her but I just loved her, her story about the summoners village and the story with her "mother" was really great! I love that song she sings to herself too!
  4. Cloud (VII) - I really enjoyed his character, although he was always moody I still fell in love with him, so that's why he's here.
  5. Vivi (IX) - He is the cutest character ever, I love him! Plus his magic skills really come in handy in the game.

Villains:
  1. Kuja (IX)- He's crazy, pure evil and basically just wants to kill everything because he doesn't want there to be world that doesn't include him! He's such a great villain!
  2. Seymore (X) - First time I saw him I knew he would be a special character, everything about him from his story to his voice is just perfect! I loved everytime he had a scene in FFX.
  3. Sephiroth (VII) - Obviously he would get a mention here, because he is the ultimate bad ass! That sword is awesome! Enough said really!
  4. Edea (VIII) - I know shes not really a villain because she was posessed but still I loved her character as a bad guy so thats why shes in my list!
  5. Sin (X) - Big giant wale that the whole world is terrified of = one amazing villain!

Here are my top villains :awesome:

1. Sephiroth, FFVII: He is the best villain in the series, hands down. The fact that he was animating Jenova's body parts the whole time from the lifestream makes him badass. He was cool and his sword, Masamune, was awesome. His character design was great, and he was very evil.

2: Seymour, FFX: He was very evil and he keeps coming back for more. His hairstyle was very unique and as the game progressed, he got more and more evil. His many different forms were all powerful and cool.

3: Kefka, FFVI: He was a maniacal clown, er...: confused: Anyway, he was full of evil and comical relief to a certain degree. He did what it took to become the God of Magic no matter how severe it was. He had a very unique look about him, too.

4: Vayne, FFXII: He was very evil and had a great way of going about it. He was evil on the down low untill near the end of XII. He wasn't as evil as the above villains, but his boss fight displayed many abilities that I did not know he had, making him appear as a very powerful villain.

5:Hojo, FFVII: Dont get me wrong, I hate the guy. Everything he did was very twisted, but he was a great villain as far as they go. The fact that almost everything bad that happens in the Compilation is a result of his various research makes him a great villain. He was a twisted scientist that made the games very entertaining.

Here are the Heroes :awesome:

1: Cloud, FFVII: Cloud is just epic win in any way. His entire story is just great and all the events that make up his character up until now. His swords, The First Tsurugi and Buster Sword, were both epic in design and power. His personality was what I wanted in a Final Fantasy protagonist and I am glad that he was created.

2: Zack, FFVII: The man that cloud "was" until he was the light. His story was very compelling, and even though I already knew most of it from FFVII, I was still suprised at some stuff. He had a very invigorating personality and was fun to use. The fact that Cloud becomes like him makes them both great Heroes and Zack was a great Heroe until, you know :sad2:

3:Vincent, FFVII: He was awesome. The story behind what gave him his abilities was very compelling. He had a very sad life until the events of FFVII, having been in that coffin and only awoken once (Before Crisis) before FFVII. His abilities and personality make his an awesome character and I would love to see him in more games. His hairstyle was great, too.

4:Yuffie, FFVII: I liked her for her personality and her ninja abilities. She was funny to listen to and the way she gets involved with your party is very unique and entertaining. I liked her limits, too, especially All Creation. She may not have Heroe esque characteristic, but she was great at saving people, namely Vincent from Rosso

5:Terra, FFVI: Her story was quite enthralling to listen too. She was a great party member and had some great characteristics. Towards the end of the game, she begins to care for these children and I admired her for that. The fact that those children pushed her to go and save the world with her friends made her a true hero.

1. Cloud Strife ~ Cloud has to be the most unique character I've seen in a game. He's got this sad history of not having anyone notice or like him through his entire life. So he closes himself off and becomes cold to others. When he finally meets someone that brightens his world and loves him for him it comes to a sudden end. He maintains this cold, careless exterior but he's also shy and has low self esteem. Which is where the coldness comes from. He can be a cold enigma without looking like a complete cry baby--unlike other heroes like Squall--
Plus, I've gotta love the bad-boy on a motorcycle image. It's too cute. His strength is also amazing. Like in AC, Sephiroth is easily beating Cloud, but Cloud still fights--despite the fact that he's losing horribly. Cloud's "I don't care about you" attitude towards others really makes him seem...well, cool. He can manage to act like that but not come off like a douche--which is cool. Who doesn't like a cold, jerk leading man?

He might need to be paid first, but he'll protect the ladies at least. And I can admit that Cloud's no Clint Eastwood in looks, but he's definitely got the Clint Eastwood attitude(okay, or something close to it). I'm so tired of people painting him like he's some girly acting man. Girly men don't tell people to blow-off. Girly men, don't drive motorcycles and wear kick ass claw-gloves(that look like they belong to an assassin). Girly men, don't intimidate taller(talking about Rude here)men--and Cloud does that.

He's an enigma, who really doesn't care much about others, and likes to be alone. And that's the coolest character you can have.

2. Aerith Gainsborough ~ Aerith is the first Heroine I ever liked. Until I played KH I always liked girls like Quistis. But her wise--yes I saidy wise--character in KH just sold me. She seemed very mysterious and that was the first a character ever really gave me that feeling. When I finally played VII I found out she didn't just have wisdom beyond her, she was also very uplifting and fun. She always cheered others up, and reigned hope upon others. She was also quite strong, she wasn't manly strong either, she had her own strength. Sure she needed a bodyguard but she wasn't a damsel in distress either. Even if she needed help, she still always fought her hardest. I really like her lady-like-ness too. It always made me laugh when she said those really corny words like "That's dirty" and how she never made fun of someone, or the fact that she never cussed. It seemed cool to me. When I saw her give herself up to Shinra so Marlene would be safe and then leave the group and head after Sephiroth alone, taking the problem on herself, it really showed how caring and brave she was.
She seems like she's always there for her friends and that's amazing.

3. Sora ~ I'm not sure if he counts, but I'm counting him! And if it wasn't for Cloud, Sora would be number one in my list.
Despite his young age, he faces darkness and problems dealing with his friends, larger than he could imagine.
Even though he has all this darkness around him and he has to face it, he always stays focused and determined to help the world and his friends. He's not always too happy but he can be at times. I really like how he's said to be bipolar too, it's very unique. His goofy ways makes him a realistic teenage boy unlike all the broody types in the anime world. He's like a real teenager. He can be happy, mad, strong, brave, weak, and that's awesome. His character can't be labeled he's just Sora. Also, I LOVE how he looks like he's his age. Usually developers make teenagers look like they're in their twenties, seeing Sora actually look 16 is a great change. Like I said earlier, it makes him seem so much more realistic.
He's truly an amazing character to come across in a videogame.

4. Vincent Valentine ~ For a lot of the same reasons I listed for Cloud--it's the same for ol' Vincent. He might come off as the "I'm dead, get away from me" brooding person, but he actually is a lot more open than that. Like Aerith, he seems very wise. He went through his love, Lucrecia, hating him and then leaving him for a man who killed him. It takes a noble man to forgive someone like that. Not only that, but Vincent blamed himself for her death, that must have been so painful for him.
He's also really really strong. Plus his attire is too cool. I love the cape(so spawn-esk). I personally like him better with short hair, though. He looks manlier.

5. Tidus ~ He's so upbeat and cheery, always optimistic too. I know Nomura based Zack off of Tidus, but in my opinion, Zack doesn't come close to being as cool as Tidus. Tid has a funny, cute side but can also be serious. Zack on the other hand just stole everything that was Cloud and made it kinda prissy. Which is why Tidus is my fourth favorite hero. He's got the most interesting male-lead story besides Cloud in a Final Fantasy game. He's lost from his own world, a thousand years in the future, when he finds out the Fayths summoned him. I always loved how he cheered Yuna up, she was always so sad and closed off, and it was really sweet of him to act that way towards her. When he was faced with almost losing Yuna he fought and came to her side, facing any amount of danger to protect her.
Even when he was facing the end he stayed happy. And that's something I love in a character.

V I L L A I N S

1. Sephiroth ~ Sephiroth... the only man to kill a praying girl. That's as evil as they come. At the time he killed Aerith, he didn't have any reason to kill her he just did because he knew someone cared about her. He killed her to prove a point... point being that he will kill anyone who gets in his way.

He came off like a completely evil jerk in VII but after CC, at least we know he had some sort of heart and mind. Hey, if you found out that you were created and your parents were douche-bags who only conceived you as an "experiment" you'd be pissed at the world too.

Before he lost his mind, he was really cool and collected. Very wise and brave. After he found out, he was insane. Killing people in the Shinra HQ then smearing their blood on the walls was beyond evil. The way he would throw away his clones just for his cause is even more beyond evil.

Now, Sephiroth might have some girlier add-ons to his look after VII, but he's still one manly looking S.O.B! He's got such a strong chin and eyes that look like they belong on a snake. He's got long hair, but that really doesn't make him look girly. It just maks him look like a bad ass even more. Because in Japan/Asia that's what shows you're a bad ass and that's what Sephiroth is--a bad ass.

2. Kefka ~ I loved how cooky he was in VI. And he sure as heck pulled some evil moves, manipulating a young girl, poisoning towns, that is really evil. Like, serial killer evil. I always liked how he made certain cracks at certain times, I found myself laughing because of how dead he acted to others. It was really cool.

3. Jecht ~ What can I say, Jecht is Jecht. He's such a hardass to Tidus it's almost like a Red Foremen of the FF world. Plus, I find it awesome he's one FF character(not counting the Cids or Barret)that looks like a tough, rugged man.

4. Riku ~ He's not the most evil villain but he's still cool. I like how mean he is to Sora at least. I'm not really into his personality but it's not the worse either.

5. Hojo ~ I hate Hojo just as much as the next person, but DAMN is that guy ca-razy. He not only stole a woman from another man, but he technically killed her with the Jenova-baby-Sephiroth. Then, he causes his son to go crazy and try to kill the world because of what he did.

My goodness, he chased a woman with a baby around the world. Then he continuously tried to capture said little girl, so he could experiment on her so they could find the promised land. That's evil.

Heroes

1. Zidane -- Like it's been mentioned, he's the exact opposite of Cloud and Squall. He's shown more passion and determination than those two, and the fact that
he selflessly looked for the dying Kuja in the crazed Iifa Tree instead of just ditching him
reveals a different side of the human being.

2. Firion -- I saw a different side of him in Dissidia, but he was still the same Firion I know. He was the most passionate of the heroes in Dissidia, wanting a world of peace and not war, and the hope of seeing wild roses bloom everywhere.

3. Garnet/Dagger -- Like I mentioned in another thread, she's the only FF crush I ever had, though Yuna came really close, as I was growing up. I also loved her determination, and when she cut her hair. That moment was pretty symbolic.

4. Eiko -- She was pretty adorable, with her crush on Zidane at all. She was somewhat mature, though, with being able to cook and live alone without anyone but her Moogle companions. Try living alone for at least 2 years. With barely anyone to talk to. In my eyes, she's grown up.

5. Prince Gordon -- In the beginning of FFII, he admitted, in his own words, of being a coward, leaving his brother to die in the battlefield. However, the way he redeems himself in the game by rescuing Princess Hilda -- twice -- without having any second thoughts about it...It was pretty heroic.

Villains

1. The Emperor -- A man who went to hell and back to earth in order to rule it! Like expected, he was tough as a main villain (only if you fight him in his demonic form. Brrr)

2. Kuja -- He actually accomplished his evil plans of
ending life. Or at least a fraction of them.
He's one of the best, and actually redeems himself
by bringing the party to life before Necron disappeared, in an attempt to save them from death.

3. Kefka -- Oh, that evil clown. I don't know why I put him here. I guess he has my respect.

4. Garland -- Who would have thought HE would be
the main villain after you teach him a lesson at the very beginning?
The last battle with him was a pain. Only my Monk and Red Wizard remained alive when I beat him. I kinda liked this guy, though.

5. Astos -- Putting a prince into a deep slumber. To me, that's pretty scary. I wouldn't want to sleep forever, especially if there were nothing but nightmares. He's in my top, period. o.o

Heroes:

1.) Terra-- Come on, a living weapon. How awesome is that. I honestly think she was the most creative and well planned out protagonist. After Terra they seem to have kinda slacked off.

2.) Zack-- When you look at it, he may have been a little annoying but he made everything that happened in Final Fantasy VII that much more awesome. Obviously he had enough impact on Cloud to have Cloud pretending to live as Zack.

3.) Yuna-- She was a very mature and young hero. I liked her because she never once acted like Squall or any of the other annoying depressing characters even though she had full reason to.

4.)Balthier-- Balthier is the most articulate hero I know of. He has some of the most well delivered lines in the whole series.

5.) Bartz-- I just like Final Fantasy V :3

Villains:

1.) Kefka-- insanity makes Kefka awesome.

2.) Sephiroth-- Again insanity, but also just crazy power

3.) Ultimecia-- She is a powerful woman. What more needs to be said. She's crazy. I may hate VIII but god she makes me want to like it a little.

4.) Sin in FFX. Not Sin the monster. Flat out sin. As in acts of sin corrupting everyone that is seen as a villain. I think that makes for a powerful evil entity.

5.)Hojo-- Just cuz he makes me laugh sometimes.
