So Auron vs Jecht. Who do you think was stronger? (at the time of Braska's pilgrimage, so not counting Auron's awesomeness when he's guarding Yuna)

I'd say Jecht, in the Jecht Sphere's, Auron seemed abit soft back then, but obviously toughened up after having his ass whipped by Yunalesca.

I would agree that it'd be Jecht, but I'm not too sure about this one. We didn't see Jecht's fighting style. Some may say it's similar to Tidus', but we could be wrong. So I dunno ...

I always thought Jecht would be more like Wakka, but still think he was harder.
He was chosen to become Sin
so you would assume that he's the strongest out of the two.

Jecht wasn't the one
chosen to be come Sin, just for the record. Jecht was the one who volunteered himself to become the Fayth for the Final Summoning.
Also, it's really really hard to say. Unless we had some hard evidence, Auron did seem rather soft and more easy-going during the pilgrimage. However, we don't know if Auron was ever a guardian of any other summoners before Braska, so it's hard to say. It would seem Jecht most like was the tougher one, but again you can't really count the chickens before they're hatched. We'd have to have some evidence of them fighting to prove otherwise. For now, I'll go with Jecht. I think Auron's fight with Yunalesca is what toughened him up most.

...Hmm....Maybe I'll be able to say once Dissidia has been released...but until then, like everyone else has said, we don't have much evidence. We may be able to say once Dissidia is released...that'll probaly the only chance we'll have to see Jecht's
(In human form)
fighting style.

Jecht, not unlike Tidus, was introduced to fighting by necessity upon arriving in Spira. Auron on the other hand was a Monk even before Guarding Braska; he was undoubtedly trained for a number of years before the events. Auron being "soft" at a point during some interaction scene doesn't dictate he's the lesser combatant.

Unless of course you're referring to a metaphysical strength, though Auron's will was far more exemplified than Jecht's was.

I agree with Lurid. Auron appeared physically stronger and the softness was only due to his care for Braska. I find it hard to believe a man only introduced to fighting would be better than a man training for years.

And I agree with Lurid and XhitsTheSpot:) I would also say an older Auron would be weaker (due to his age obviously). But as others have said I’ll (hopefully) form my final opinion when Dissidia comes out

I'd also say that Auron was the strongest guardian. Reasons were mentioned already. :3
But I think that they were great as a team so it didn't matter who was stronger. (Yes, that's not the question of the topic, I just wanted to say that ^^)

it was probably jecht since the auron back then did'nt seem as tough as the auron that was protecting yuna and also because hey he tidus's father

I'm going to have to go with Auron on this one. In order to be trusted as Braska's guardian, he had to be pretty damn good. Not any old person can take on the job.

Jecht was no doubt good as well, but meh. We never get to really see him fight and before he joined Braska he probably hadn't ever really done that much of it.

Auron was known as the Legendary Guardian (I think it was Wakka who said that when Auron joined them) and Auron disappeared after Braska's pilgrimage and no one saw him for 10 years.

I think they said also that he was the best guardian ever, and his only summoner was Braska, so I think Auron was stronger, but i prefer Jecht.

I think people are missing the point when Auron is reffered to as "legendary." He's only a legend because of his pilgrimage with Braska, before that he was a monk. So at the time of Braska's pilgrimage, Auron was just a loyal guardian to Braska, nothing more.

His pilgrimage with Braska was his first aswell, so how could've he been a legendary guardian at that point in time if it was his first? (we know it was his first, look at the way he reacts to Yunalesca, if he'd been on pilgrimages before Braska's he'd have known all about Yunelesca and what happens before Braska even reached Zanarkand)

Braska is celebrated as a great because he defeated Sin and brought the Calm. Auron is celebrated as a great because he guarded the guy who beat Sin and brought the Calm. Without Braska, Auron would just be a monk, or just a guardian. The joint success of Braska, Auron and Jecht is what made them legendary.

Look at the way people talk of Jecht, especially Yuna, he's also considered a legend.

So the respect and legendary status Auron gets/has is only down to the first pilgrimage he had.

He became a legend after Braska beat Sin, so his legendary status is not a factor to consider when it comes down comparing the strengths etc. between him and Jecht.

^ Indeed. There is also a Jecht sphere in which it is said that Braska was a fallen summoner and Auron a monk that was doomed because he refused to marry someone (my memory is a bit fuzzy about this one, I'll try and look it up). Basically, they were talking about how great it would be if they defeated Sin because everyone expected the three of them to fail.

They became legendary only after defeating Sin.

Its hard to say since we didn't really see who was stronger since there were no viewed fight sences of them back then but if I had to say so I'd say Auron because he actually had combat training as a monk.

IMO. It'd have to be Auron.

All through the game people were like "Sir. Auron! ZOMGGG AHHHHHH TIZ SIR AUROONN!" But with hardly any mention of Jecht. ^_^

as FFXIIFran says auron is claimed to be "the best guardian there ever was" with this being the case i would have to agree that auron is the better warrior out of the two of them

Yeah as others have said, it has to be Auron becuase remember Auron was helping and fighting with Braska before they went and met Jecht in jail. Also in terms of shear strength and battle abilities, I believe Auron is the better "guardian".
