Yes, here's the thread when we discuss about parents who give us wierd names that we don't even have a clue from were they got it. Are you part of the large group of people who are wondering what the hell does their name mean?

If you are, come here and post your point of view (posting your name here is not necessary but opinions are encouraged)


For example, my teacher says that my name is greek but then another teacher says that it is latin, then another one says that it's from Venezuelan.

Now my mom said that it was from a Venezuelan novel, really old actually, so old that she doesn't remember its name :lol:

So here I am, getting used to the questions on how my name is pronounced, even wondering myself how to pronounce it too because I am not always 100% sure....>_<

Opinions???
 
Personally, I've always been wondering what my real name ought to be, really?
I mean, why Jeremiah.

Then, about 4 years ago, they admitted that it was a mix-up made by a nun who filled out my birth certificate. They said she mixed up my middle name and first name --- in actuality, I should be Joseph Jeremiah, but for some reason, she switched them.
Quite weird.
 
i hate my middle name. Edward. it really doesn;t go with my first name (Mark) at all and makes me sound like i live in the 1930s -_-

i hate it. but its my grandads middle name too so im meant to like it.

Im getting my name legally changed when im 18 :D
 
Yeah here is were we wonder "why this name?" "why me?"
Though having wierd names has its benefits since it makes us more unique :cool:

For example, in my school there are:
4 Carlos
3 Peters
4Josephs
6 Johns
4 Crystals


:lol: it's quite confusing when you say "hey Carlos!" and three different people answer "what?"
 
My name is French but it is pronounced a different way. I love my name though. =D. It's not THAT common.
 
I think I know what my name means. I've Googled it and I have found several sites saying my name (Daryl) means "dearly loved". FFCompendium also had something similar if you have read the name origins. "Daryl - Her name means "well-loved." Appropriate for her relationship with Setzer." basically means the same thing so I am convinced, then again I am easily convinced. Only thing I am wondering is how I got the bloody name as I am not convinced that was the reason as the way my mum described how she named me, it seemed as if the name just came out of the blue and stuck with it.

I also saw that to pronounce my name it said "Dare-Ul" - WRONG! :blink: It's "Dah-rill".
 
Well I always wanted my name to be written in Latin.

I even named my new RP Character with words written in Latin.

Maximilian Angelus Fortia Regisheart

"Regisheart" which is a mixture of "Regis" and "heart". Regis means "kingdom" and so the name means "Kingdom Heart" (lol).

Fortia means "strength" and Angelus means "angel"

I think I will name my son (if it's a boy) Julius "Aeternus" (Aeternus means "eternal"

and if its a girl I shall name her "Crystal de Amoris" (de means "of" and amoris means "love"


Or perhaps I should let their mother decide for me.....because I have this feeling that If I do....

Well, my name is not that thing, Bruno.
But my History teacher name... uh-uh... she' called Soledade, that means Solitude in spanish (if I'm not mistaken), and funny part is that she was supposed to be called Saudade wich means... huh... can't remember, but's it's a name of a feeling, and the greatest pat, in the registery the guy said that people couldn't name their sons with the name of feeling... yeah, right.
 
The only excuses that I could get out of my parents for my name is 1) I was born in Japan and 2) it was an accident.

My name? Mishi Jin >insert last name<. Why was it considered an accident? I currently live in Michigan. Ironic, no?
 
I still fail to keep my face straight at that Shen. :|

Take my teacher's name for example.
Solitaire, guess what? She plays it all the time.

My classmate:
Monica. Monica = doll, approximately. ;)
She has a whole set.

Thing is, or rather, the weird thing is, what our parent's name us may affect our personalities, though I think it borders more on coincidence than anything else.
 
Having a name as famous as Sephiroth would be cool. I mean, people who've played Final Fantasy would immediately recognize him, to be honest.

I don't find that name weird at all, nor does it suck. Quite cool to name a kid after someone that's famous. ^_^
And who knows, it might start a trend!
 
Im named after my nums fav actress Lauren Bacall, although that was not Lauren Bacall's birth name. She had always said she liked the name and changed her first name to Lauren ^^ The Anne part I chose myself as I entered high school. It seemed different and I wanted it!

My dad wanted to cal me Robyn because he just loved the name, but my mum said people would have sung the Batman and Robin theme tune at me! I personally wouldnt have minded being called Robyn as Ive never met one and see it as an unusual name.
 
What may sound perfect to one person may sound strange to another. I myself plan to name my son Link(go figure). I like it, I think it's freakin awesome, but I bet some of you think it sounds pretty lame. Hey, I might even name my daughter Zelda, such a pretty name haha.
 
Zelda possibly, but Link? I'm a huge FF fan but I doubt I would want to name any of my children after an FF character. The only names I would slightly consider in FF are Gordon and Ashe since they aren't that wierd. :P

mine is Luis. It sucks so bad cus there are a whole bunch of Luis' in my damn school. I don't even know what it means!!!!!! Good thing my friends just call me firecrotch :p

P.S. my sis wants to name her daughter Rikku or Lulu
