When did Final Fantasy stop being 'Final Fantasy'?

I guess I always had it in my mind of "Fantasy" being more or less Knights and Magic :hmmm: I can see now how modern/futuristic could be considered 'Fantasy'...

Well most of it takes place in a different universe. And it does have magic. All ff has magic. Still......to say it was up until final fantasy IV is a crazy stretch.

If you look at it... IV had people go straight to the moon on a futuristic space ship, III the characters were not even from that world (if it was translated correctly to the DS), II Pandaemonium could probably be considered more scientific (granted it is concidered hell in the game.) I is the only one where I can't think of anything really scientific about it... the rest of the games had something other than just "magic" to explain magical abilities or some form of science involved in it

So really Final Fantasy hasn't changed, just always has tried new things... you can't say one is so exactly the same as another...

if you know, then maybe you should let that slide...
don't get me wrong, i love turn base. but it feels 100 times mroe fitting when it was 16-32 bit games. not in these 3D ones.

Oh no, I wasn't meaning to complain, and I apolgize if I came off that way I dont mind that FF12 had a Vagrant Story feel to it I was simply stating how that made it kinda steer away from that FF feel. And I couldn't agree more with the non-3D Final Fantasies. Even though FF7 is my favorite I still perfer FF1-6 over a majority of the newer FF's (Final Fantasy 5 is my second favorite:awesome:)

No. Im saying turn base is suoted for 2D not 3D. Im not sayingi prefer them older ones though i am saying i love them almost equally

I had never really thought that Final Fantasy stopped being Final Fantasy. I think Square Enix just changed some aspects in the games, just for a change. Maybe controlling only one character was a nice, welcoming experience for new players to Final Fantasy. Maybe they focused a bit too much on story, even if the story wasn't the best and the sense of "freedom" was restricted because they wanted a deep story. Maybe they made it more futuristic because they wanted to try something different.
I didn't really mind these changes. Just the fact that I was playing a Final Fantasy was good enough for it to be listed along all the other FFs.
Theres nothing wrongnwith change. However in the end the story just didnt deliver in the end. Yes we consider it a final fantasy but a good one? The tutorial couldve been moe hands on or at least more greater aspects. Even controlling one character wasnt the problem but the lack of tactics you need for the game. No room for customization which means no room for optimization. The game was a very long breeze that bores you.

Games tend to make you think on how to win. This onendoesnt deliver that. It might aswell been a movie.

But with versus coming along: final fantasy can almost be anything. However hopefully this ends soon. As much as i love final fantasy, it should end before it gets crazy old. It doesnt remember its strengths

.. Final Fantasy in my mind as knights, swords, magic, and other mid evil fantasy bullshit...

medieval

Anyway, I loved the series growing up, it was amazing. Even shitty games like FFVIII are not as bad as what we have today. The series simply seems dead to me, and I truly wish to see it die altogether in glory (like Shenmue) than in shame ... guess its a little too late for Final Fantasy though.

What about Warmech? He didnt just was created naturally didnt it?

Again FFXIII is just plain nonsense, i will use Shiva as Example:

Fantasy awesome.

Fantasy BIG FAIL.

FFXIII desbord nonsense and its fantasy elements seems like that it came from a lame cheap sci-fi B movie .

Agreed. Its not that the story elements werent there to be final fantasy. It just wasnt enough to be good
