What are the permit and driver's license laws in the state or country that you live in? Like how old do you have to be before you can get your permit and how old until you can get your driver's license and also how many hours, of driving with an adult with your permit, do you have to have in until you can get your license?

Well i live in Maryland in the U.S. and the laws here is that you have to be 15 and 9 months till you can get your permit. Then you have to have 60 hours of driving with an adult with your permit, with 10 hours of those being at night, till you can get your license. But to get your license you have to be 16 and 3 months.

What's the laws in your state or country?

We can get a provisional licence at 16 but we can't actually start learning how to drive until 17, with an overpriced instructor and stupidly hard theory & hazard and perception test

Its no wonder I can't drive really -_-

we can get our learners at 15, then after 6 months restricted, then after 9 or 13 (depends if you do a defensive driving course) you can get your full license.

Kids around here are eligible for their Driver's Permit at 16. 6 months after acquiring their permit, they're eligible for their Driver's License.

I don't believe you need to log in a certain number of hours behind the wheel while under the permit. I just sat around for 6 months before getting my license. It's up to you if you want to get the practice you need before taking the driving test, I suppose.

that sounds so easy compared to the shite we have to go thru >_< I wish I could just hop in a car and go, altho I think I need to stop stalling so much and get the right gear haha Im so thick

Our laws are about to change quite a lot. First, they're putting the age up to 18, which somehow has something to do with bringing down the number of deaths related to drink driving.
Then, you won't be allowed to put in for your test until you've had at least 50 hours with a certified instructor. So no more being taught by your parents. This is to stop people passing their theory on their 17th birthday, having a few lessons and passing two months later only to flip the car at 100 mph.
Then (and this is the worst bit), you have to pass your test. Then re-take it 6 months later before you can get your full license.

That really makes me glad I passed when I did.

Oh fucking fantastic, I so wish Id gotten round to learning sooner o_O

Had I done it when I was 17 I wouldnt have had all these extra theory bollocks to contend with. I really am gunna have to get round to it asap or just deal with buses and public transport for like, ever grr

I know that Maryland had wanted to change the driving laws so you wouldn't be able to get your license until you were 18, but so far they havn't been able to. I hope they don't until after I get my license.

Like the others above, in England you can get your provisional at 16, when you can drive a moped (scooter) and learn to ride a motorbike and then once you reach 17 you can start learning to drive a car. There are no specific laws about needing to learn to drive at night and all of your learning is done with an instructor, although you can drive with a licensed adult sitting next to you as long as you have your provisional license with you and are already insured, but I don't know why anyone would bother getting insured until after they had passed their driving test...
The theory test is annoying, and you can only take it in certain places which are normally quite difficult to get to. I'm glad I passed it first time that's for certain.

Okay well I'm in Australia in the state of Queensland.

Our laws just changed a bit recently. Luckily I had my licence way before any of the laws came into place. It saved me a lot of stuffing around.

To apply for a learner licence you must:
  • be at least 16 years of age
  • Before you are eligible to take a practical driving test you must have held your learner licence for at least one year and have completed and recorded 100 hours of supervised on-road driving experience.
  • This must include 10 hours of night driving. Your logbook must be assessed and passed by the department before you take your practical driving test.
When you finally get your licence you are then on your P's.

P1 and P2.

When driving on your P1 type licence, you must:
To be eligible to progress from your P1 type provisional licence to a P2 type provisional or open licence, you must:
  • have held your P1 type provisional licence for a minimum period of one year
  • pass the hazard perception test
  • pay the hazard perception test fee.
When driving on your P2 type licence, you must:
  • display green P-plates at the front and rear of your car (rear only for motorbikes)
  • comply with high-powered (performance) vehicle restrictions
  • not accumulate more than four demerit points in one year
  • carry your licence with you at all times when you are driving and show it to a police officer when asked to do so
  • obey any conditions stated on your licence
  • comply with the no alcohol limit (0.00 per cent) if you are under 25 years of age and a blood or breath alcohol content of below 0.05 per cent if you are 25 years of age or over. Drink driving offences carry monetary fines and disqualification periods
  • not drive under the influence of illegal or prescription drugs.
What conditions apply to my open licence?

You must:

  • not have a blood or breath alcohol concentration equal to, or more than, 0.05 per cent when driving a car or riding a motorbike for private use
  • not drive under the influence of illegal or prescription drugs
  • have a zero (0.00 per cent) blood or breath alcohol concentration when driving, or in charge of a motor vehicle other than a private use car or motorbike. For example a truck, taxi, tow truck, or a vehicle being used by you as a driver trainer to give driver training. Note: Drink driving offences carry monetary fines and disqualification periods
  • obey any conditions stated on your open licence
  • only drive or ride the class of vehicle stated on your open licence.
Once you have held your open licence for one year you can teach learner licence holders to drive or ride the same class as stated on your open licence. While teaching a learner to drive you must ensure the vehicle clearly displays L-plates on the front and back of the vehicle. Failure to do so will result in a fine.

---

So to sum it all up, you need to hold your learners for one year and have worked up 100 hours of driving.

Then when you get your licence you are on P1 and then you have to do another test before you can get your P2 and then you're on your opens after that.
