Another crazy ass post from everyones favorite Guado lol just kidding
Once l named my guys from FFIX the different members of Foxhound from Metal Gear Solid and other games of the era.

Zidane was Greyfox
Dagger was ?????
Stiener was Tinman(imagine that)
Vivi was Scorceron
Eiko was Angel Girl
Freya was Dragonaire
Amarant was Flare
and last but certainly not least Quina was Munch

Oh at one stage l named Squall/Akira and Rinoa/Asuka

but thats about it after that kept there orignal names on the subsequent games l played l

hey name calling on ff, i miss that :(

i called tidus michael owen once lool

I keep the original names anymore, Final Fantasy 1 being the noteworthy exception:

Warrior: Ladon. It's the dragon that guards Hera's golden apples in Greek mythology. I wanted to name him Lucifer, since it means "light-bearer," but it was too many letters.

Red Mage: Roatha. It's honestly a name I pulled completely out of my ass for a story once. It's meant to sound kind of like those poetic names of French heroes, like D'Artangon from The Three Musketeers. So...gay.

White Mage: Thiera. Another character I invented. The name is an anagram of Aerith. Think of it like a tribute.

Black Mage: Aauwyn. Aside from being another gay name I invented, it's a deliberate corruption of Anwyn, a world of elves & fairies from mythology. I chose it because I named my Black Mage this in War of the Lions & he kicks ass. I got the idea for the name from .hack//SIGN.

well, i did name my Characters different things throughout my time, using many names from friends and occasionally family.

Starting with FFVII:
Cloud - Stephen (me)
Tifa - Tascha (EX)
Barret - Josh (Best mate)
Vincent - Aiden (one of my mates, he has some weird form of Guy love for Vincent)
Aerith - imadie (or something to do with death, i hate the Biatch)
Red XIII - Nanaki (after first playthrough anyway)
Yuffie - Cassidy (i just like the name)

FFVIII
Squall - Stephen (me again)
rinoa - Cassidy (again, just like the name)

FFIX + FFX
I didn't rename the Char's asides i gave Zidane my name as always

I guess that makes me a purist... I never change my characters' names and when I have to choose them such as in FF1, I hate it. I end up looking using RPG name generators or taking names from random series.. such as Tyrael (Diablo) as my main, Thuriel (Diablo), Casara (means 'to marry' in portugeuse, I believe.. I didn't even know this, I just like the name), etc. I never, ever use my first name as a character's name, I think it somehow ruins the fantasy environment!

Ambios: No, I'm with you there. Somehow, it just never felt right to pick a different name. This likely comes from superstition, as I somehow did worse whenever I picked a name, & because they've been shying away from pick-your-own-name, anyway. I don't see why they did it in the first place, with such a story-intensive environment.

Usually I keep the original names but I was so close to naming Cecil - "Jade" (my name) the other day, just for a laugh. But decided against it. I prefer them having their given names. Though on time I did name Tidus - "Gaydus". :tehe: If only they actually said his name...
