I remember the first time I played through the game, I missed out on so many of the GFs, as most are optional and you don't have to get them. I was young, and I think I got less than half of them. But as I recall, I got Odin, but I don't think he was part of the main story.
That being said, if Odin is optional, wouldn't that make the Seifer/Odin death scene completely optional?
Just wondering.

That's sounds right. If you never got Odin, then you keep fighting Seifer until you beat him. The good thing about Seifer killing Odin is that you just wait for Gilgamesh to attack Seifer. Until then, you can just Draw those nifty Aura spells he's got in him ^^

Although Odin was better than Gilgamesh as a summon in FFVIII D:

Regardless, I just think its completely cool that the game makers actually put something like that in. To have an optional component interact in a main story battle and do something so surprising and unexpected is just pretty neat.

I remember thinking "lol cool, this'll be easy, but didn't think this would happen in a boss fight" and setting my controller down when Odin came. Then Odin got taken out in a single blow, and I was like "wtf?" You really don't expect things like that to happen.

I don't think I got him the first time.
Needles to say I was pretty surprised the second time I faced him when I did have Odin.

Totally agree with you man. I never got odin the first time round so when i saw that scene i was pretty surprised, its not something you expect to happen. He walked into that gunblade pretty hard id say.

Odin was a fantastic GF and always seemed to perform "Zantetsuken" when I couldn't be bothered to plough through a battle myself. Gilgamesh looked cool but Odin was so much better.

And yes, the Seifer/Odin scene is optional (obviously providing you have or don't have Odin) :neomon:

*yeah thats right hes opinal, and the seifer scene wouldnt affect the game if it happened or not, i think its just a trigger effect to limit the capability of a sure kill encounter for the player, just to make the game a little harder for the players. cause if you have odin and appears in battle hed kill any enemy just like snap!right!. now if gilgamesh appears that instant kill attack would go down probably by 25% right?.it makes you depend less on the instant kill. i think its just a way of the game makers make us work harder for the game :)

I don't think you can go back after that fight. Although you might be able to in Ultimecias time, unless the centra ruins are closed off, which, I'm guessing they probably are.....

Is it actually possible to get Odin after the Seifer fight?
Yes, if you didn't get Odin before the end of CD3 you can get him in CD4. :)

Either you get Odin or not, the Centra Ruins will still be there on CD4. If anyone doesn't want Gilgamesh, then just get him on CD4. I still think Gilgamesh is more helpful regardless his Excalipoor as he can appear at anytime in any battle, unlike Odin.

Yeah but I think Gilgamesh doesn't react to the luck junction like Odin and Odin ALWAYS uses Zantetsuken!
Also I feel a lot closer to Odin since he not only helped me out of pinches longer, but he also arranged that elaborate test in his palace to see if I was WORTHY! He didn't even fight back when I got him, like he wanted to join me, but he felt like had to follow some warrior/GF code!
BTW I don't think Seifer killed Odin! I think he just let Seifer kill him since he didn't want to be bound to Squall forever and I don't think GFs, creatures copletely made of magic, can die the way we comprehend it! They just appear somewhere else when they "die"!:jon:
(luv putting exclamation marks!)

i was like omg NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, odin saved my life so many times, but then gilgamesh came out and i was like oh yes hes gotta be good.......i was soon disapointed

I recall that scene, it was really cool! I was dissapointed though....I didn't want to lose Odin. At least they replaced him, but still....

Hmmm, I always thought that Odin was one of those GF's that were unavailable to the gamer after a certain point in the game (which this being the Seifer battle).

The Odin side-quest was pretty sweet and in an awesome location, so even though I didn't get to keep him as a GF and he was replaced by Gilgamesh, the adventure to him was cool and challenging.

However, yeah, you can just skip him altogether, but then you'd be missing a pretty cool addition to the game.

If you opted not to get Odin before fighting Seifer there is still a way to acquire him, but you cannot get Gilgamesh. All you will have is Odin. =p.

Although I loved Odin, Gilgamesh did tend to kick some major ass...(when he actually decided to show up). haha.

Having some1 else, like Gilgy, help u with the bosses isn't fun! I like 2 pwn the big guys myself and have a reliable help 2 clean up the the annoying creeps! I know I can just run away but somehow I don't like it cuz it lowers your SeeD paycheck! Many people think U don't need cash once you're in Ultimecia's castle, but U do if u got Tonberry GF! The only time I ran away from a fight is from that spider-like robot in Dolet! Odin ALWAYS helps U save your honor (...and money)!
