I'm not entirely sure where to put this, but I think it could make for a good discussion if I'm right and it's not jus some kind of offer but this is the second time Ive noticed this now

Has VAT been reduced to 15%?

Is this a desperate attempt by the government to get us out of this recession? Will it even work? Now Im not complaining, less tax is always a good thing, but if this is a desperate attempt to get us spending again, will it go up and exceed 17.5% say next year, the year after?

I suppose on the other hand though, if we are not spending, then the governemt arent getting that money in the first place to put on their houses and holidays, I mean NHS & schools >_>

I'm hoping it wasn't a rash decision that could turn around and bite us in the arse at some point, maybe it will work wonderfully - I hope it does, my phone bill has gone down ...not by much but still :monster:

Will it even make any diffrence? 2.5% to an individual isn't exactly alot. If I go out and spend say £100 then they add £15.00....(my maths fails so if Im wrong oops) that's a saving of £2.50? Hardly makes a difference. I think they should think about tackling the bloody fuel prices (as in gas/electric) THAT is where the real problems lie

Also, I fail so bad at debating, it's just a thought rather than me wanting to actually debate myself :wacky:

Yeah, it's been reduced, but it's only for December. It goes back up to 17.5% on the 31st.
I don't think it'll make much difference for the time of year. Everywhere has sales on now, so shoppers are saving huge amounts already. That little extra is completely dwarfed by some of these sales (JJB's 95% off sale for example).

Well what a waste of time that is

Ive already finished my christmas shopping, go figure

It isnt going to make a blind bit of difference in that case, f the government REALLY wanted to make an affect for one month only ololol, then they should have scrapped VAT altogether and gone back to 17.5% in January

A trained fucking monkey could run this country better

The 15% only effects certain items like luxury items. So the price of certain goods don't decrease, like biscuits i think, but cakes will be cheaper. I think I've got that right!:worried:

Anyway a mars bar should be a whole penny cheaper! ^_^

Firstly cutting taxes isn't always good. Raising taxes is suppy side theory. :wacky:
I think it's probably more of a gesture than anything else. The last thing a government wants to do, especially during a recession is give the impression that they're not doing anything.
