I think there should be a change in the waiting period.
This is my suggestion
under 50 posts
60 days
under 500 posts but over 50
45 days
under 1000 but over 500
30 days
over 1000 but not a veteran member.
25 days
veteran members.
20 days

It would encourage people to post and maybe cause more people to join.

I believe Mits explained that in the Username change thread, LG made it so all of the usergroups HAVE to wait 30 days. =\ so no difference between everybody. :gasp: I think it's best that way. >.>

Well I don't like it I wish I could change my username more often. Or at least this final time.

Um, it's not changing, it's something we have already discussed in HQ. Its something like 60 days for the newer members and 30 for the rest

Edit* you just have to wait like everyone else, like Busta said in the other thread, we may not like it, but 30 days is better than the 6 months it used to be

How would it encourage people to join?
You may feel a little sore that your ability to change your name once a week has been revoked, but as to why that should lead to the whole system being restructured, is beyond me.
At current it's 30 days for everyone, which is fair, as Veteran and Senior members have other priviledges that more junior members do not have.
For some 30 days was not long enough, the issue is always going to be slightly divisive. It wasn't too long ago that name changes were only allowed after 30 days, so it's not as if this is new.

I don't think this system is really necessary. I can imagine it getting a little confusing and annoying. Dividing the members up into those categories isn't really a good idea IMO, I think the 30 day waiting period is fine as it is. Besides, your system would only cut 10 days off your waiting time anyway. So I think there is little point in changing the whole system just because you can't wait an extra week and a half.

I'd suggest that you make sure you really like the next username you pick. That way the wait will be more tolerable for you. :elmo:

I think the way it is set up atm is the best way to do it, 30 days (practicallya month) is a good amount of time and it stops people changin their names so often that people dont loose track of who is called what

I don't think anyone likes the current situation regarding the length of time, least of all myself. However, everyone has to live with it so it's not as if certain people are getting a priority over other people. And as it has already been mentioned, LG is the one who made the decision, therefore, he will most likely have done so on technical grounds to benefit the forum in someway. You could take it up with LG but I wouldn't waste my doing so as I doubt he'll change his mind.

It'd do neither of these. :wacky:

This has been discussed at length between the moderating team and the rule is now rather generic: everyone has to wait 30 days. This includes members of staff, to ensure fairness. You should all be able to change your names via your User Control Panel every 30 days. Only in the event that this does not function properly should you post in the Username Change Thread.

Basic summary: it's the same for everyone and won't change any time soon, most likely.

Also, ironically, wasn't it his complaining that people in teams could change their names when they wanted? So it went from like a week for vets, 2 senior (or something) to 30 days for everyone? :wacky:

As the general consensus is that these suggestions are not going to be implemented, I'll close this thread now. Staff discussed for a long time to come up with the current username rules, and I doubt they'll be changing anytime soon.

Admins or Gmods, feel free to reopen this thread if you think it's necessary of if anymore discussion would be beneficiary ^^ But, unless one of you says something -
