Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez Wednesday accused the United States of causing the destruction in Haiti by testing a 'tectonic weapon' to induce the catastrophic earthquake that hit the country last week.

President Chavez said the US was "playing God" by testing devices capable of creating eco-type catastrophes, the Spanish newspaper ABC quoted him as saying.

A 7.0-magnitude quake rattled the desperately poor country on January 12, killing an estimated 100,000 to 200,000 people. As Haiti looks to the world for basic sustenance, the authorities say the biggest dangers facing survivors are untreated wounds and rising disease.

Following the quake, appeals for humanitarian aid were responded to globally. However, the nation is struggling with violence and looting as aid is still not enough for the tens of thousands left homeless and injured.

Chavez said the killer earthquake followed a test of "weapon of earthquakes" just offshore from Haiti. He did not elaborate on the source of his claim.

The outspoken leader had earlier accused the US of occupying Haiti "under the guise of the natural disaster."

At least 11,000 US troops have been dispatched to the country to provide security for aid distribution efforts.

Venezuelan media have reported that the earthquake "may be associated with the project called HAARP, a system that can generate violent and unexpected changes in climate."

HAARP, the High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program, is a study run in Alaska directed at the occasional reconfiguration of the properties of the Earth's ionosphere to improve satellite communications.

Former US Secretary of Defense William Cohen in 1997 expressed concerned over countries engaging "in eco-type of terrorism whereby they can alter the climate, set off earthquakes, volcanoes remotely through the use of electromagnetic waves."

Basically, he says we caused Haiti's disastrous earthquake. That the U.S. Navy launched a weapon capable of inducing a powerful earthquake off the shore of Haiti. He adds that this time it was only a drill and the final target is to take over Iran

WTF????

AHHHH. I have lost any shadow of respect for the man, if a Chavez can be that flipping ignorant than he certainly doesn't deserve our kindness or support. Even if we ignore the fact that techtonic weapons are physically impossible, if Haiti was actually hit by one then there is no way he could know if it was fired from the US.

Anyways, we already have weapons of causing a hell of a lot more damage than that earthquake, and we are not interested in taking over Iran. Chavez sounds like he's trying to just avoid the responsibility of actually helping people affected by the quake.

My initial response, "..wh-whha...heheuhhahahhahahahah...hahahahaha!" xD

Yeah, this is one hell of a joke. I can't even take offense to this or take it seriously. It's just so incredibly stupid. Of all the things to hold us responsible for... xD

*wipes a tear from her eye*

Ahhh, good stuff.

i can just imagine...

chavez: "i can haz tectonic weponz?"

well, this isn't the first time a political figure has made an incredibly stupid remark. let's just hope obama or any leader of 1st world nations don't make the same mistake.

No one listen to him. My mom sees him in the news (Spanish ones) a lot, and all she could say about him is that the guy is nuts (in her own words).

I don't believe it for one bit.

Seriously, he sounds like the people who think the moon landing was fake. The best response is to simply not take it seriously, because it's obvious this guy has something against the U.S. so bad that he won't even make sense when he tries to accuse us of something.

What an idiot. Last time I checked or heard from the government, we didn't have one of those earthquake-making machines. I stopped believing most of the stuff I hear on news channels and on the web, but this is just retarded.

Brilliant. Chavez obviously realised he had to up his game after Gaddafi's speach to the UN.
At least Chavez's accusation is funny, colossal fuck up Pat Robertson's claim that the Haitians made a pact with the devil is quite disturbing.
havez does have a bit of a point, Haiti was the poorest country in the western hemisphere before the earthquake and the US was partly to blame for that.

Ya'll make sure it's relative to the topic and we will keep this from entering spam. Its to easy to blame everything on the US now a days.. a weapon that causes earthquakes  .. I don't read much about the man, so I can not really contribute much here, so with that I'll take my leave.

Seriously, he sounds like the people who think the moon landing was fake.
I agree that the moon landing was fake, but that's a topic for another day.

Well, we know Chavez isn't a fan of the US, so it's natural that he wants to try to drag the good US name through the mud. Sadly enough, some people may actually believe him, but it's all hot air really.

I happen to know for fact that weapon wielding US vehicles are tested on other US vehicles. I would assume that Chavez thinks an underwater vessel carrying weapons did this? Submarines test dummy missles on other US surface ships, it's a fact. We've even sunken our own vessels as a result. We would have no reason to take down an island that has nothing to do with the current war at task, and it's ridiculous to think as such.

And also considering the current "president" is shooting for making peace, it would be hard to do by randomly blowing up another country. So all in all, it's just hot air that should be disregarded.

I'm not fond of the US Gov. however, saying something like this without an inkling of proof is just plain stupid.

Everybody loves to pick on the US gov. now adays. I guess it's the "hip" thing to do. =/

Chavez likes to get up on his soap box every once in a while and deliver some anti-american sentiments for his supporters. It's not something to be taken serious in any way, shape, or form. :P

The USA are struggling enough with poor immigrants from the Caribbean and Middle America as it is. I very much doubt that they'd like an influx of poor refugees from Haiti

This is pretty nonsensical. I assume that next time there's a tornado he'll blame America for controlling the weather using satellites, or something.

People come up with all these crack theories now, but where's the proof? No point in making claims, unless you've got the evidence to back yourself up with.
