So there are the Disney movies that are highly praised. (Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Lion King) Which ones do you think deserve more love?

Pochahontas: Yeah it butchered history. But no one would give a fuck about Pochahontas if they hadn't seen this movie. And I loved the romance in it especially since it doesn't end how pretty much every Disney romance ends ;) The sequel sucked though.

Hunchback of Notre Dame: One of the Darkest Disney movies. I remember not liking it when I first watched it, but I was afraid of Quasi Moto D: Definently underrated and has one of the best villian songs ever (Hellfire)

The Black Cauldron: A box office flop and hard to find. But I thought it was a good movie. And also very dark.

I too liked Avatar much better when it was called Pocahontas :wacky:

Apart from that I thought that Treasure Planet was really good. It came out when 3D animation was really breaking through and replacing 2D and I think that's why it never really achieved the classic status of previous movies. Or maybe the sci-fi interpretation just put people off. Whatever the reason was, people should have given it a fair go.

:wacky: I think watched 20 minutes of Pocahontas before deciding I didn't like.

For me it would have to be The Fox and The Hound. I watched loads of times when I was younger and I can remember bawling my eyes out every time. There are bits of it that used to really scare me and that fear kind of made it a more exciting and compelling story line.

That too was brilliant. I watched it all the time at my aunt and uncle's place when I was a kid. I always thought of it as one of the classics though, but maybe that's my own appreciation of the movie clouding the facts :P

Oliver and Company, not sure if it's underrated but it never seems to be mentioned as much as other films and I think it's in teh same league as the Lion King. It was really good, sxcellent characters, funny, and had a great story that ended well.

Yes! Oliver and Company has been one of my favorites for a long time. I wouldn't say it's underrated since technically, it wasn't that good of a movie. It's the kind of movie that flies under the radar. But I really enjoy the hell out of it. I know the songs and everything :edd:

A Goofy Movie.

I don't know why, but a lot of people seem to dislike this movie. IMO though, it was a really good film. It took a serious issue (no communication between parent and child, puberty in general) and turned it into a light-hearted family film.

Treasure Planet = epic win :D I'm a huge fan of the Treasure Island story and watching/reading different interpretations of it, and this is actually one of my favorite versions. I thought it was brilliant to see Long John Silver act as more of a father figure to Jim than in the other versions I've seen, it made it more emotional when
he betrayed him and then they reconciled again.
Plus it's got John Rzeznik on the soundtrack and he's one of my favorite musicians :D I really thought this movie was underrated too, very much so.

Another one is the Sword and the Stone, the one about Arthur and Merlin. I loved this movie growing up and I watched it over and over :yay: It had lots of cool magic dueling between Merlin and Madam Mim, and some funny songs in it as well, like the Higitus Figitus song :x3: :

There were lots of good morals in it too, I'm really surprised it's not a more popular movie given how much people seem to like fantasy/medieval stuff lately :hmmm: Though it was made in 1963, it still has value today I think--unlike a lot of the newer kids shows/movies out there now, it's got well-written witty dialogue and can be appreciated by adults without having to make any sexual innuendos or colloquial references (or, none that I can remember anyway :hmmm:). Highly underrated movie.

Fox and the hound is ace :griin:

Also I remember one particular movie/cartoon but I cant remember what the title is..:(
and im not even sure its disney at all

Its about a little eagle/little semi-blind mole and one other critter that are on a journey to find a cure for their sick friend..she got sick becuz HUMANS sprayed chemicals to kill the vermin etc..the cure was a little flower that grows on one particular spot. also a wise owl was involved...wow I just loved that cartoon.

Once Upon a Forest (1993)
FOUND IT !! Not disney though :sad3:

One other I keep remembering was about a dude and a little pixy fairy...humans have disturbed the forrest and a demon made out of tar (oil based?) is hunting the fairy or something..but the human agrees to help the fairy and stop the humans from cutting down the wood etc.. It was awesome.

Can someone please (based on these descriptions) help me find out the titles xD

I think you are talking about Ferngully. Was there a bat in it? Ferngully isn't Disney.

I think Sleeping Beauty is a pretty under-rated movie, It's my favourite Disney movie and I don't think it really gets the praise and attention it deserves :lew:

Pocahontas is another one, I think it's a brilliant movie, and one of my all time favourite Disney movies, but a lot of people don't seem to like it, and I can't figure out why D:

Haha ty ty, you are right... yeah its not disney :(
Is the one -Once upon a time in a forrest a disney neither?
Damn then I shouldnt have posted in this thread..

Anyways I liked both of them a lot :awesome:

Are we just talking about older movies that should have gotten more "love", as you put it, Rydia? Otherwise I'd say Bolt. While I realize it wasn't always completely ignored and shadowed by everything else all of the time, there isn't really much to show for how well it was made, and it really had a great cast (okay, Rhino is annoying as hell a lot of the time, but other than that)...

That movie is my favourite of all time... I am very glad Up at least won some award(s? perhaps multiple), though. :ryan:

Yeah Sleeping beauty is underrated actually, though not one of their greatest it certainly warrants more attention and merit than it receives, pocahontas I was never a fan of though and think it got what it deserved really. This reminds me that a friend has downloaded all Disney films from 1937-2008, we still need to watch those bad boys.

It can be old or new. Just as long as you feel that they do not get the praise they deserve. ^_^ However, if you were to mention Lion King or Beauty and the Beast, I'd raise my eyebrow XD

I agree with Oliver and Company. It was at one point my favorite movie. I always seem to forget about it though.

Also agreed with Fox and the Hound. It was a very sad yet realistic look at friendship. The end always makes me cry when Copper recalls some dialogue between him and Todd when they were kids. "Goodbye may seem forever," is also one of the saddest Disney songs ever.

Fox and the Hound really was a classic movie in my opinion, but I'm more into more recent stuff, but that was a really nice movie, and I like foxes so some of the characters were quite good, getting Mickey Rooney for a voice is just win.

And yeah, I would never mention something like Aladdin or Lion King, as they both did very well and were indeed old classics, which weren't "old" at the time. :P

Yeah, Ferngully is by FAI Films I believe :hmmm: However even though it isn't Disney, it is definitely still worthy of mention as an underrated movie. It's IMO probably one of the best animated movies ever made, and especially in terms of teaching valuable lessons to children. It really teaches you the value of life itself and of all living things, and the idea of deforestation being portrayed as evil is great. Gotta love it. Even though it makes me feel old because I actually saw it in the theater as a kid when it came out XD

Another Disney movie I thought of, even though it's not animated, is Flight of the Navigator :awesome: Most everyone I mention it to hasn't heard of it, but it was about a boy getting abducted by an alien spacecraft and then returned home eight years later, except that he never aged. It's a really fun movie and it's got a lot of the good kind of 80s music, there's one instrumental called "Robot Romp" that is particularly geeky and cool :wacky: Very cool movie, and way too underrated.

OMG I have see that movie! And yes, it is underrated. I didn't even know it was disney XD

Another one I like is Hercules, yeah, it's cheesy and not well made. But several of Hades's lines crack me up. And Meg's "I Won't Say I'm in Love" is one of my favorite songs.

The Emperor's New Groove!!!!!!

I love that movie to death!
but it sesame's like its not that popular.

although I do remember a time when the Disney store had absolutely NO nightmare before Christmas stuff in it. now there is tons
