So what are your impressions of the voice actors?

Who do you think is best suited to their role?

Have any of them disappointed you?


Before I begin answering these questions myself, I would like to note that I have discovered something that (to me) is slightly awesome. The voice actor of Noel played Kovu in The Lion King 2 and Haku in Spirited Away! I thought I recognised his voice! 'tis rather awesome. I love Kovu!

Developing that point, I am quite pleased with the voice of Noel, and with Laura Bailey's presentation of Serah. Both characters sound mature and collected, which shall hopefully create chemistry and make them easy to relate to. The voice of Hope in XIII-2 is good; it is true that it's the same actor who voiced him in XIII?

I'm not 100% sure about Yeul yet...but I shall retain judgment.


Edit: Oh wow, Laura Bailey was the voice actor of Lust in Fullmetal Alchemist! Henrietta in Gunslinger Girl. Ryoko in Spiral. That, too, is rather awesome. Methinks she is a wonderful actor. :yaoi:

I never played FFXIII only the demo of FFXIII-2.

Lightning's VA is terrible.
I liked Noel's VA.
Serah's VA sounds far from mature. Its kiddy and way too girly. I loved that about Rikku in FFX, but Im not feeling it in FFXIII-2.
The VA of the moogle is cute, but I feel its out of place. A moogle that can speak english they should have done it in a way that the moogle could only talk through telikineses/mind.

So far I am not impressed. The NPC's have decent VA's, but not that amazing it could have been.
Chocolina's VA is also disappointing imo.

I didn't know she was Henrietta also?! D=

I think the VA in this game is okay so far based on the demo. The only character whose voice I hate seems to be Chocolina. I actually was fine with Vanille's VA in the last game but Chocolina really annoys me, like seriously. And she stalks me in the demo, she's like a save point from the old games, always popping up all cheery n such for no reason >.> I don't like her VA and I think her character was kind of conveniently created due to laziness...But whatever.

FFXIII and FFXIII-2 have been a monumental step down from the excellent voice acting of FFXII, which is probably not entirely the voice actors' fault, because the dialogue of the most recent games aren't exactly stellar (the mildest way I can describe it) and you have to work with what you have. I don't have much of a problem with Laura Bailey however, though I've heard her way too many times already. And her role as Serah isn't exactly my favourite, but still a thousand times more tolerable than a certain Welch Vineyard character.

Liam O'Brien as Caius however, gets a big plus from me. He really pulls off the big bad villain voice pretty damn well, and it's significantly ahead of Caius's Japanese voice. I just wish the bits of English dialogue I have seen so far of Caius's stop sounding so corny and overdone.

Chocolina is bloody awful, in both voice, design and everything else - I won't even ask how she travels around time and why, in terms of storyline context. There is nothing about her to like, and sadly, she never meets her end by being stepped on by Atlas or pecked to death by a gaggle of berserk, horny Chocobos. Ah, well. You can't have everything.

After hearing Serah's Japanese voice for one whole game, hearing Laura Bailey's version makes Serah sounds so mature to me.

It's not that Serah's Japanese VA is bad, but I think she will be better off playing as younger characters.

I like Noel's VA for both English and Japanese.

Yeul's Japanese VA is kinda squeaky and creepy. I got a feeling I will prefer the English VA.

Chocolina's voice is annoying in the Japanese version. I haven't heard her voice in English though.

I don't mind the voice acting so far - I am not yet playing due it being released later over here. I quite like Serah's voice anyway, and Noel's I adore due to loving the VA's role in Lion King II. Overall it seems okay so far (from playing the demo).
