The Paths of Tragedy

"Welcome to our group, I am Sir Cairn Rosencrant. Former Captain of the Royal Guard." Cairn stretches his hand and gives Jonad a firm handshake. After that Cairn summoned one of the maids. "So gentlemen, what would you like to eat? Let's have a fest to celebrate our agreement." Gade and Cairn ordered some roasted steak, with gravy, two loaves of bread, a vegetable salad and a bottle of their best wine.

Cairn had a form hand shake. Way harder then Jonad had guessed.
Muse be from all that time holding that sword.
Jonad had nimble fingers, it came with the profession.
As the grip was released, Jonad gave a slight shake. Almost as if he where to shake loose his fingers from each other.

He snatched the leather pouch. And looked inside.
Indeed, this was what he mentioned.
Jonad felt good now.

Then, like music in his ears. More food.
Not just food, but good food.
Jonad was in heaven.

"Thanks. Sir Cairn." he stated, and thought for a second
"Is it ok with you if I just call you Cairn.or do you prefer me to use the Sir prefix?" He asked. After all. Depending on the personality, one could get angry for less.
thoguh. Jonad didn't have that image of Cairn. but asked just to be sure.

"Well if this is the beginning of great friendship, let's drop the formalities shall we?" Cairn laughed as he served some wine and had a mouthful of the precious liquid. As they enjoyed a nice conversation, the meal was brought and both Gade and Cairn said a prayer to appreciate the food to God. As the night fell, Cairn, Gade and Jonad were set on the very beginning of their adventure. No one knows what fate has in store for them. As their fist objective, Cairn had in mind heading towards the east, towards the forest region and then south to the city of Palacious.

Zeria Iiyasei stopped outside of a small inn, in the Port Town of Vaid. She was fully cloaked, not a feature in sight but her swords strapped to her sides.

"I can finally rest...I grow weary after my long journeys like this..."

She entered and took a quick look around, before sitting in a darkened corner.

"Can I get you something?"

"Just a glass of red wine...I'm parched after my travels"

The person went away and Zeria sighed, taking a better look from underneath her cloak. There was a group of men together, and they looked quite joyous. Almost suspicious...did they know Julius, perhaps? Or maybe even Lucious? She would have to make a point of listening in on them later. Maybe she would use her ability and merge with the shadows later to follow them.

"Here is your red wine"

"Thank you very much"

Zeria paid for her wine and sat quietly in the corner, sipping slowly...her gaze hidden by the cloak, but never leaving the group of men...

Upon arriving at the port town of Vaid, Arthvader, cloaked in what seems to be a dark blue turban, took his time to look around the area.

'Wow, this is one big area. I better find myself someplace to relax.'

Eventually, He entered a inn. Inside, he took a seat next to Cairn and the others. "What would you like for me to get for you?" The bartender asked.

"A glass of water would be fine."

"Okay. One glass of water coming right up." The bartender said as he made his leave. As he waits for his water to arrive, he turned his attention to the group. Suddenly, he decided to greet himself.

"Hey, It seems we haven't met before. It's nice to meet you. I'm Arthvader. Who're you guys?"

Damian, during his travels encountered a small settlement in the nearby mountains, as he walked towards it, using his staff as a walking stick approached the settlers who resided there. When he approached an aging man with his own small and knobbly walking stick and sporting a large greying moustache. As he approached the man he raised his weak left hand to bar his path. "Excuse me, I seek passage through your settlement. Please allow me passage." Damian asked the old man. "I am afraid that is not possible, this is sacred ground where we worship the balance between good and evil, the undisturbed balance which keeps us from being cast into oblivion." The old man replied. "Okay... I suppose I shall take my leave". Damian bowed to the old man slightly and turned around and proceeded down the mountain path, the old man then returned to the settlers.

"Where shall I go to now? I suppose my travels will lead me to a village at some point..." Damian said to himself.

Cain, seated before the strongest fighters in his army announced his plans to lure his brother to him. "I want you to lead your units through to various villages which follow a certain path, directly here. I want to end my brother's life before he can obtain the Dracoknight blade, I know my backstabbing father passed this knowledge onto him." Cain announced to his officers. As they proceeded to the exit, without a word they began gathering their forces and marched towards the gates of Darkofia castle, preparing to burn the villages down.

OOC: I was given permission to use Julius.

Hejaloki was dressed in white robes and his long grey beard and hair went to his waist. Hejaloki looked at the forest around him thinking of the past.

He walked in the darkness using his staff to give off light to see the path to the town ahead. They were headed towards Palacious and be there tomorrow mourning

He turned to his helper.

His helper was clothed in white and had a mask on that revealed his eyes only. He had a gemmed sword on his waist.

"Lord Julius," Hejaloki said in whisper.

The helper turned to Hejaloki and responded, "Yes, master."

Julius has lost his memory two years ago. Most of what happened between then and now was training of honor, selflessness, magic, and swordsmanship. He was taught this by Hejaloki.

"Remember our alias. Mine is The Prophet and yours is Octavis Sode. Remember no one is to know your your real name. Understand Julius?" said Hejaloki.

"Yes of course." replied Julius.

Then they continued onward into the town.

Gade grabbed Cairn's hand and rose to his feet. He tried to get off his clothes as much dust and dirt as he could. Cairn released Gade's hand and smirked seeing that Gade had given up tearing him apart. Cairn sighed, having recently fought an old friend was not what he enjoyed the most, but it was that or ending up as chopped meat.

"Well it seems that I thought wrong Cairn, sorry for not trusting you. A man who refuses to kill a former friend and forgives his mistakes is worthy of being respected and trusted. Thank you Cairn."

"Ah don't mind it. Anyhow, I guess that after this little brawl we might need something to refresh us. Come on and let's get a drink."

"Aye, thank you Cairn."

Before leaving, Cairn noticed a strange person approaching him. The man introduced himself as "Jake", and was congratulating Cairn and Gade for their battle. Cairn was curious about this man, obviously he had never met him before.

"My name is Sir Cairn Crey Rosencrant. It has been an honor to meet you. Sorry if I am hasty, there are some matters that I must attend to. If you wish to speak more, come by the Inn. I shall be waiting."

Cairn bowed formally and then he and Gade entered the bar once again.
The people inside stared at them intrigued and amazed that no one was killed. Cairn and Gade arrived by the counter and the bartender took their order. "I want some whiskey!" Gade said anxiously. "Just wine for me, thank you." Cairn replied with patience. Both friends shared a drink as they had a conversation about the problems affecting the kingdom. According to Gade, the Royal Army lacked organization and many of their knight had left it to run their own personal groups. The kingdom is divided by discord and distrust, and the king knows not what to do. Cairn smiled, though he was disappointed for he expected more of his former comrades. After much talk, Cairn asked Gade to join him in his quest to restore unity to the kingdom. Gade hesitated at first, but soon he realized that sometimes the people had to fight their own battles, regardless of how bad times were.

"Now what we need now is some more people. I wonder if we can recruit others here." Cairn said wondering about their next destination. It was obvious that they required to reach the royal city of Palacious, and arrange a meeting with the king, but with Cairn's reputation after his rumored failure at Helena Fortress, getting inside without expecting some hostility would be foolish.

Cairn heard the man as he kept enjoying his glass of wine. Soon after having another sip of the wine, Cairn turned to speak with the man. "I am Sir Cairn Rosencrant and this tall man with the big beard is Sir Gade. I've never heard of your name."

Seeing that he needed to go to his room Cairn arranged a meeting with this man. "I can't speak much at the moment. If you wish we could discuss a few things later. Now I'll retire to my chambers. Meet me in a few hours before the entrance of this bar. I shall be waiting."

OOC: Sorry Hera, I added that part to compensate (or try to) part of my mistake.

The sun was setting on the port town of Vaid. Cairn had left the bar and retired to his room leaving Gade at the bar enjoying his meal. As he went upstairs, Cairn kept thinking about those two warriors he had meet before, the once named "Jake" and "Hera Ledro". After reaching the door to his room, Cairn turned the doorknob and entered the room, locking the door behind him.

He sat on the bed, staring at the wall, not knowing what lies on his future, nor interested in foretelling it. He thought of how he was going to reach the city of Palacious, and how he was getting a meeting with the king, if he was lucky enough to get one. Seeing that it was still earlier in the night, Cairn wondered if he would be able to find these Jake and Hera Ledro. Determined to have a decent talk with them, Cairn rose from the bed and walked towards the exit. He locked the door as he left, heading downstairs and exiting the bar. Gade didn't notice that Cairn was leaving, for he was entertained with a group of females he recently met.

Meanwhile Cairn found himself standing before the Inn & Bar, as if he were awaiting for fate to play its role and arrange a meeting with these mysterious beings.

Zeria saw the one man rise and leave, then come back and go somewhere. Now, she was curious about him, so she set down her wine glass and followed, stopping just where he would not see her, and letting her gaze drift on him.

"I wonder who he is. Should I go ask, or should I stay behind and hope to find out? Does he know anything about Julius?"

She really hoped the man hadn't heard her, because she was trying to keep quiet. And if he had, she would have to hide herself in the shadows, or introduce herself and explain why she was following and watching him. Zeria sighed.

"This is more trouble than it's worth..."

Jake and Hera sat upon a clock tower. Jake, having transformed into a Dragon, looked for all the world like a gargoyle as he peered north. Hera sat on the opposite side of him, facing south, his wings spread out like Jake's, fanned so to bounce sound waves into his ears better.

It hadn't been long since they'd left where the man was. Hera would not hear of Jake's desire to ask the man about any of Sukani's lackeys. No matter what Jake said, Hera flatly refused to involve the people of this planet in their struggle.

Jake was a little more practical. Whereas he agreed to not directly involve others, that didn't meant hey couldn't ask lightly inquisitive questions. There was so much that they could find out, but Hera would not hear of it.

Jake stood up and stretched. Turning to Hera, he said, "I'm gonna go do a small patrol, see if I can spot anything."

Hera nodded. "Alright, but transform back to human. If you talk to anybody as a Dragon, they'll probably think you're some kind of monster. And make sure to keep your mind open, and report anything odd back to me by telepathy. I still don't know why you insist on calling it that..."

Jake shrugged as he transformed. "We're talking through minds, and whenever you talk with the mind, it's telepathic." Hera did not look convinced as Jake made a giant leap off the clock tower. He landed softly on the roof of a Blacksmith's shop directly east of the clock tower. "Man," he muttered, "is it ever boring standing on top of a ticker all day..." With his powerful legs, Jake bounded from one rooftop to the other. He kept his eyes and ears peeled as the rooftops rushed underneath him, his black sweater flapping in the wind.

Wylliam returned to his camp just outside the city where he planned to spend the night, as opposed to one of the many inns within the city. It wasn't that he was cheap; quite the opposite really. His trip into town had, in fact, so depleted his money purse, that he simply couldn't afford the nightly fare. Wylliam dropped all of his new clothes into his travel trunk and sighed. He was, in a way, uncomfortable being a uni-partisan mercenary, but it seemed the quickest way to end the Aldabran Empire's bloody ambitions. So, he allowed himself to be contracted exclusively by Seseu, pledging to wield his spear only for the Seseuan cause. "Of course," Wylliam assured himself, smiling, "that is only if the Seseuan cause remains one of self preservation." Wylliam walked back out of the tent and looked at the horizon. There was still time before sundown. He decided to return to the eventful bar to pass the time. "Only this time," he chuckled, returning to the tent, "I'm taking my spear."

It was dark by the time Wylliam thought it was finally time to return to camp. However, as he walked toward the town gate, he noticed out of the corner of his eye a shadow leaping from the clocktower. Suicide was common enough these days, but it still made Wylliam uneasy to see the plummeting figure. His unease metamorphed into confusion as he saw the shadow land and roof hop through the town. An interesting end to an interesting day, he thought, leaping in the direction the shadow appeared to be heading.

"Sheesh, this guy's quick," he grumbled, still in his pursuit. Wylliam had prided himself in his ability to leap higher and faster than any man, and yet here was this shadow with whom he was having to go all out just to keep pace. Finally coming within hailing distance, he called out, "Hey, hold up! I'm getting tired, and I want some answers!" Like, how do you leap 50 stories and live, he thought to himself. His ego was becoming very sensitive.

As he saw Cairn left the table, the waiter arrived with his water. Drinking his water, Arthvader began to think if he should actually meet Cairn as he requested.

'If I meet him at the entrance, he might explain more about what's going on. Also, this would give me the chance to know him more. Okay, I've decided.'

A few hours later...

As he stands outside the inn, Arthvader waits for Cairn to make his appearance. To him, this could be fate for them to meet.

The sun was already setting and if she wasn’t fast, she was going to miss the inn’s and would be forced to sleep under the stars yet again. Not that she had any problem with that, but now and again it was nice to sleep in a comfy bed and be served her food by another instead of hunting it down herself. She was forced to run for the door as a woman was ready to lock it from the inside. Her clawed hand grasped the wood and the owner looked at her in fear she was some sort of beast. Kali opened the door, her icy blue hair billowing in the harsh wind. She stepped inside and drew her hair to one side. “I am no beast, you need not fear me. All I ask is that you let me stay the night. You have one more room for a weary traveller, do you not?”
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />
The girl nodded her head in bewilderment and stepped aside in order to let the woman in. She noticed the great sapphire engraved katana on her back and took a step back. The woman would have seen many warriors pass this village, but Kali doubted one as bizarre as herself had stayed before. Kali removed her white cloak and threw it over her arm. She dug the free hand into the pocket of the cloak and removed a small pouch, from it she drew some money and handed it to the woman. She accepted, but still said nothing, drawing behind the counter and taking out a clumpy key. She handed it over the counter to Kali who had drawn nearer to the counter and gave a shaken smile.

Kali sighed. “I told you that I was not here to harm you, now will you speak or am I not to recommend the service at this in?”
“N-n, no! Of course not miss. I’m sorry. We do not normally get such...”She didn’t finish her sentence just in case Kali took offence. Instead she lowered her head and murmured, “Would you like a drink?”
Kali sighed, this wasn’t getting anywhere. “Yes I would very much like a drink if you don’t mind.”
With that, the woman took off in order to get the drink ready as soon as possible. Kali noted that the woman had not even ask her what she would like to drink, but she didn’t mind, as long as the woman wasn’t going to call the army in on her in the middle of the night, she didn’t really care. Before she knew it, the woman was handing over the drink; amber in colour which Kali assumed would be some sort of alcoholic beverage. Her clawed hand curled around the glass with a ‘clank’ and she nodded her head in thanks before going to sit at a table.

She set down the drink and pulled back the chair, she sat with a slump, exhausted from all the travelling she had done the last few days. She closed her eyes for a small second in order to catch her breath and then opened them once more. It was then she noted that the bar area was quite empty apart from one enjoying his meal and another clocked figure in the corner. Kali took a sip of her unknown drink, her eyes still focussed on the hooded figure...that was until the strong ale took an extreme turn on her and she began to choke and splutter. Her clawed hand covered her mouth until she stopped coughing and the other hand pushed the ale away in disgust. Kali wasn’t a heavy drinker at all; in fact it was always water or some fruity substance for her.

After the sudden panic, her eyes drew back to figure sat in the corner. Kali didn’t even know if the figure was looking straight back at her or not because its face was complete darkness...but she didn’t care, she continued to stare until her vision was spotted from staring at the same thing for more than a few minutes. Her eyes flew back to the amber substance on the table and she grimaced as the sudden reminder of the foul taste made her stomach turn.

As he awaited for Jake to appear, Cairn couldn't avoid noticing the man he met several hours ago exiting the bar. Though he wasn't sure he could trust him, Cairn decided he could, at least, give him a chance to prove himself. In these dark times, it was common to see imperial spies disguising as villagers and travelers to find out information about the kingdom's activities. The air was getting colder as the hours passed, the moon shined bright on a clear black sky. Stars glowed magnificently above like jewels on a crown, shining, pure and full of the hope fueled by the people below wishing for a new era of peace in this dark times of war, greed, pain, anger, treachery and deception.

Cairn sighed as he closed his eyes for a few seconds and the opened them staring at the stars. Tomorrow, he would set on a quest to attempt to save this world. For those who knew the ancient lore, it was foretold a millennium from now that when the world was darkened by corruption, the guardians of this planet would rid it of all its corruption. The war was just the prologue of the "Armageddon" that was about to come. This land cried out for a moment of balance, for peace, for all pain to end. From the north, the advancing armies of the Empire scorched all who opposed them, Seseu was on the brink of oblivion. To think, that not far away from here a man set on a similar mission struggled to recover the fragments of his life once shattered as a price to delay the destruction of the world. A man that sacrificed his sanity for the sake of his friends. Then his brother, a man who sought out atonement for his sins, traveling through the land accompanied by his loved one, it is unknown if this former denizen of darkness would make his appearance. As for the man who gave his soul, right now he is being guided by one of the ancient ones who fought the demon born out of the hatred of this world.

Back on out little part of this story, we see Cairn thinking about all that has happened. The man sought for answers that could not be delivered at the moment. He had a serious expression, eyes reflecting the sorrow of the stars, a pain so deep that no mortal could bear within the secrecy of the heart. Cairn finally turned to face the man who just left the Bar & Inn. With a firm determination on his voice, Cairn began to play his part set by fate.

"Sir Arthvader, am I correct?"

As Cairn called out to him, Arthvader turned his attention to him. He then asked Cairn a question.

"Yeah, that's me. I've heard that you were looking for people to join you. I would be honored to join you in your quest. You see, I've been through some tough battles. If I were to join you in your cause, Believe me, I'll help you in any kind of situation."

Zeria took a moment and gasped at the name. Unfortunately, with the loudness in her voice at the shock, she gave herself away.

"ARTHVADER?!"

She clapped her hands over her mouth. Surely, Arthvader would recognize her voice and see the fiery red hair beginning to be visible from out of the hood of the black cloak that covered her. Her identity would be revealed...

Cairn, not sure of trusting this man, decided that he would give him a chance to prove himself worthy. "I see, very well. You can join us, we will leave at first hour of tomorrow's morning." Cairn soon noticed the presence of another person, a woman enshrouded in mystery. He recognized her as Zeria Iiyasei, a woman that along with Arthvader had served the fallen lord Julius Argexis, a man who disappeared shortly after his castle was assaulted by an unknown force. Maximilian Regisheart took control of the region, and along with Lady Vegnya they established the Aldabran Empire in hopes to unify the land, though the world they had envisioned is far away from our present reality. How and why these people were here, Cairn did not know. Seeing that it was getting quite late, Cairn decided that it was best for him to go back to the Inn and get some rest.

"I apologize but I must leave, tomorrow we shall speak again."

Cairn turned his back on them and left towards the Inn. As he entered, the bar of the Inn was already quite empty, most of the people had already left to their chambers. Cairn went upstairs and entered his room, locking the door in the process. He then fell tired on his bed, and began to sleep.

Jake continued to leap from building to building, breathing deeply as Hera had taught him. "Wait a minute," he muttered, "why the hell am I running? It would be easier to fly!" With that, Jake jumped into the air and flew, using his energy to propel him. Who needed to go Dragon and get wings when you had Chi?

As soon as he'd jumped into the air, he heard a voice behind him. "Hey, hold up! I'm getting tired, and I want some answers!" Jake whirled around, hovering in midair. Leaping along the rooftops, and going full-power it seemed, was a man trying to keep up with Jake. Jake made to move towards him, but heard a scream down an alley to his left. Without hesitation, Jake shot into the alleyway, drawing the Soul Shredder.

The giant golden blade gleamed in the moonlight. It was zweihander-style, but unnaturally light, made from a magical metal with unknown origins. Jake had found it during a trial on the planet Makio, and had kept it ever since.

The moonlight bounced off the blade, into the face of a man who was about to commit murder on a young woman. Jake wasted no time. With a leap, he thwacked the man across the side of the head and punched him in the gut. The man doubled over, dazed and winded from the heavy assault. The woman stopped screaming, but stared in horror at Jake. Jake didn't blame her; it wasn't every day you saw a fifteen-year-old kid take out a grown man with a punch, let alone wield a giant sword like the Soul Shredder.

Jake sheathed his blade and held out a hand to the woman. "What happened?" he asked kindly.

The woman's voice shook, still shrill with fright. "That blaggard tried to kill me! I didn't have my husband's rent this month, so he threatened to kill me unless I gave him everything I own! When I had nothing, he said that I'd have to give him my life and...and..." She looked up at Jake, wonder shining in her eyes. "You saved me! Oh, thank you sir! Thank you! Oh, what do you want, name it, I'll give you anything!"

Jake shook his head. "No, marm, that's alright. Just get yourself home. He's not dead, he's just unconscious." Without another word, Jake walked out into the open streets. "Well," he muttered to himself. "That was good. Wonder if anybody else needs help."

Zeria blinked, then pulled her hood back over her face to hide her identity once more.

"That was....strange. I half expected him to come at me and try to kill me or something...I'm glad he only caught a slight glimpse of my face...this cloak serves wonders..."

She was truly glad that he hadn't seen her gear, because then he probably would have attacked her. Nevertheless, he was a suspicious man, and as soon as he went in, she clasped her hands together.

"Pulvis et umbra sumus"

At that, she merged within the shadows and followed him in, staying within the shadows and watching this man. Somehow, she new that he had to know Julius....maybe even knew where he was...

OOC: sorry for my absence. I doubt I can compensate for all that happened.
So I'll jut assume that I left for bed.
Sowwy bout that ^^
--------------------------
Jonad had already payed the room. He did that shortly after his companions had left.
He walked up the stairs, thinking of the reason that they wanted him with them.

He was a healer, one of the few.
It seemed that the healers had grown few over the last years.
There could be many things that did this.
Logically, if a healer is present, your enemies can be healed, and take revenge.
so they might have been hunted.

Or simply enough, being a healer, don't have enough 'action'

"Bah" Jonad stated out loud, he was at least comfortable with this life.
At least when he had money.

He entered the hall way, and looked at the key, it had a large number 4 carved in it.
He looked around, and headed for the room that shared the number.
The key opened the lock, and Jonad entered.

The room was simple. A bed in the corner, a bin of water in the other.
And a small table, with a chair next to it.

Jonad closed the door behind him, and sat down on the chair.
He took out his pill box.
It couldn't hurt to know what he had avalible.

The box had 36 rooms. where 2 was slightly smaller then the rest. Some of them where full, a few where half, or less.
And some where empty.

He looked through what pills he had left.
He had plenty of painkillers, a few energy pills. The ginseng really packed a punch.
And a few glowing pills, that glowed of different colors.

these where magical, and made of some herbs he got from a mage.
The effect was incredibly strong in them.

He closed the box, and put it back in his robe pocket.
He took off the robe, and lied down on the bed.
he did not use the pillow, nor the blanket.
He lust lied on top of everything.
And fell asleep.
