What if instead of using controllers with buttons to play video games, all you had to do was move? Don't bother trying to imagine, since Microsoft beat you to it. "The Natal Project" for Xbox 360: Introducing Controller-Free Gaming & Entertainment:

What are your views on this idea? Do you think it will be successful, and maybe even surpass the Wii?

I don't find the idea very appealing so far. It would feel to me as if I wasn't playing a videogame anymore. Although after reading this quote, I'm not sure about my opinion...

"Hollywood director Steven Spielberg was on hand for the event and said Natal will help reach new audiences who may be daunted by complicated joysticks and controllers."

Because after all, modern joysticks and controllers are very complex and require much skill. -__-

Going by the trailer in the third link, it just looks like a more advanced version of the Eye toy. So I'm not really impressed yet. It would be nice if they actually developed some proper games as opposed to just mini games.

The first game with the balls looks like it would be amusing, but the fact of the matter is that kicking real balls against a wall would probably be much more fun.

lol, I love stupid and crazy trailers like that.

Anyway, it looks ok, but like SaShman said I'd much rather they made proper games for stuff like this.

Painting elephants and kicking coconuts looks fun for about 5 minutes.

Also, I'm not keen on the charcters they were controlling being invisible. :O

That's essentially what it is really. I think it'll end up being pretty successful, given the success of the Wii. They just need to come up with some unique ideas for people to really take to it. Hopefully it doesn't completely replace the classic controller though, because there are a few games that just wouldn't work with the Natal.

yeah i agree, doesnt look t good. just the 360's awnsor to sonys eyetoy
They already have one - the XBox Live camera. It's just not used that much.

The state of the carpet in one of the trailers makes me lark, the way the boy plays the skater game is asking for trouble lol.

I still cant believe its possible, I guess I wont believe it till Im actually interacting with it. I love the Milo idea, being able to interact and communicate with this young character sounds and looks amazing. But as my friend pointed out, games are meant to be a means of escape from the real world, they are not meant to be real. He hates the whole Milo and Natal idea, but then again, he loves Sony lol.

I agree with everyone else. It looks like it has lots of potential, but if it's going to be all stupid mini games like Eyetoy and Wii Sports, I'll probably leave it alone. Milo looks pretty funny, but I try not to get myself too worked up over anything coming from Peter Molyneux. He usually promises a great deal more than he can keep :P

Sounds cool, i didnt bother reading much but i have a basic understanding about it. The games supporting this system are ganna suk and focused on the non hard core gamers most likely. I cant imagine playing a rpg or a fps with this though. If it worked it would be freakn rediculous!

Something like an old school style point and click adventure game would be pretty cool using Natal I reckon. Even non hardcore gamers must get tired of Wii bowling at some point and desire something more :P

I think the concept is good, but let's get real. Shit they're playing probably wouldn't be released on a massive scale for a few months after the release, and maybe years after that for any decent "games" to be played period. I think Sony is going in the right direction with it's Wii like motion controller but having more of a "feel" for the environment. I think Microsoft is jumping the gun just a little to fast if you ask me.

If this makes sales ill just pop out the SNES, Nes, and so forth. I'm not dealing with virtual reality unless I'm IN a game. =-(hopefully everyone will know what im talking about) I'm not saying it's destined to fail but can you really imagine play Halo or Gears on it? I can and it looks god awful.

If they make a game like Oblivion where you can control your character based on your movements, then I'd buy it. But until there's a game that kicks ass on it, it isn't going to be hooked up in my room when it comes out.
