Has anyone else noticed that the moon is a notable theme in Final Fantasy? It's not really noticable unless you really think about it, but it's a theme in IV, VII, VIII, IX (kinda), and that's just the ones I've played.

Your thoughts?

Thats true.

FFVII: Had no real baring on the story but it was observed in the FMV that featured Meteor.

FFVIII: the moon was the Source of the monsters8( and a major event in the story, Luna Cry?

FFIX: Featured the transitory mode of the Red Moon of Terra to the Blue Moon of Gaia.

FFX: Not so much.....:hmmm: Um well when they group attacked Sin and Sin went nuts he started dragging surface material from the moon.

FFXII: yeah Whatever :hmph:

FFXIII: If you consider Cocoon to be an artificial Moon then its presence is there aswell in a big way.

So yeah Like anything else the real world inspires creators to use the Moon for than it actually is, Imitating reality and all that?

VII also had it in Cid's story and when getting the huge materia.

I'm not really sure why they do it, it is interesting because there are other things to imitate but they keep going back to the moon for some reason. Maybe Hironobu Sakaguchi just wants to go there or something. =P

@Acer
Completely forgot about the HUGE importance of the moon in the plot of FFIV huh?

It's probably something to do with the symbolism of the moon in real life, Square are remarkably good at picking up symbols that are condusive to their playerbase.

The only one I thought was a notable theme was FFIV tbh. Maybe even FFVII, when Cid wants to go to the moon, but still, only FFIV is the only one I really thought

Yeah I'm currently playing FFIV for the first time.....and I'm stuck/under-levelled on the moon, but I would say or predict rather it does have a huge importance in the game.....As the main plot of the game is Golbez trying to discover the powers there with the crystals.

A few other FF's maybe yes....But its nothing significant towards the story (except VIII a little). Anyway I don't like the space/outer world side to FF.

Yeah, I think the FF that I mostly noticed the moon the most was IV. Considering that it was actually a home to a race that had existed a long time ago in the game
(the lunarians)
, I thought it was a rather creative concept they made with the moon. Every time I see it in the sky in real life, I also think about the comparisons between it and the moon in most Final Fantasy games. We can easily use our imagination on the topic . :ryan:

I think the games that have the moon have more to do with Space travel than with the moon itself, Minus FFIV I don't know another game where you physically walk on it...

FVII had more just traveling in space on a rocket for one part.
FFVIII same thing you were in a rocket but yes the moon was more shown and had more plot involved with the moon.
FFIX was more warping to a different planet than traveling in space to a moon?
FFXIII well... I don't think Cocoon was a moon as another side of the same world?
