The Lost Number

Shoot I meant the Lost Number!

When me and my bro first played through this game the Lost Number was no problem, really easy, just your average minor boss!! Then through his second (I think) play-through my bro fought it again only for it to suddenly transform and start dishing out some seriouss damage! It beat him!? And he and I (I was watching) were shocked at this newfound strength; we never knew it could do that. Again, when he played through it he was adamant to beat it swiftly, but again it transformed (this time the other colour) which dishes out severe magical damage. It's never happened to me, but it always happens to my bro (I'm playing through it now so we'll see). It never happened before it just surprised us (or him). It actually was a challenge!:O

Has this happened to anyone else?

yeah he transforms after taking a certain amount of damage.
If the last attack u used on him was a magic spell he turns purple and has very strong physical strengh.

If the last attack you use is a physical one he turns red and uses strong magic against your party.

But if ur characters are really strong u can kill him in one and he doesnt transform, he just dies.
i normally find him quite difficult and leave him til later in the game

I'd say what you guys did the first time is either get very lucky (if it was on the first disc) or fought it near the end of the game when you were really powerful.
And as LD said, if the last attack used before the transformation was physical then he becomes stronger magically, but is weak to physical attacks. And vice-versa.

The first time we were on the first disk and we did beat him without him transforming. Usually he was piss. We just thought of him as this little boss in the mansion. However, my bro fought him the second time and he just transformed and start to dish out and killed his party. I;m about to fight him soon, this is my third time playthrough and I'm at the mansion. Now if it don't happen to me then it looks like it's my bro's curse.

His transformation is dependent damage taken, and the damage type: that being magical or physical. I found hitting him hard with magic attacks to be best for the most part, and hitting him with Choco/Mog for Stop. I preferred casting slow on him though, and inflicting him with Poison (which, considering his HP, deals a nice amount per round). After he transformed into his more physical side, Barrier was more than useful for me. And with him being inflicted with Poison, he went down really quickly.

It's really not worth leaving him along until later on. At this stage in the game you should have more than enough resources to take him head-on.

He never transformed when I first played the game though. Which was weird.

I don't actually remember, this was years back. He only lost to it the first time it transformed. The second time he just kept him on is toes a bit more. I think it's because my bro cured and attacked, he didn't use and defensive spells at the time. But that was like with me. We attacked with Limit Breaks and summons (mainly Choco/mog to cast Stop on him) and then he was done. We always fight him on the first disk as I am about to very soon (today in fact). He was propably at a low level.

This boss was responsible for me becoming rather angry at the game. I coudn't seem to beat him until I used Choco/Mog, out of desperation more than anything, and realised that he could be stopped :) After that, he didn't cause many problems.

Every time I battle him, he transforms fairly quickly, damn him...
