The lag.

Just right before at the time it lags every day the server was busy and I didnt get back on the main page for like 30 minutes. It was lagging really bad that it couldnt even display the web page. What is going on anyway? Usually the lag at the time of day and night lasts max 5 mins but recently it has been going 13-15 mins and now 30 mins! God it is ridiculous.

Just a note, I think the lag vanished some yesterday. Lord must of done a few things. Whatever, it helped some. :monster:

You think so? :hmmm: It's still lagging horribly for me, to be honest. Takes ages to load a page. -.-

Friday and Saturday, I was getting 5 minute periods where I couldn't access the site at all. Yesterday, it may of loaded slow, but at least it loaded. So I saw an improvement. Could be just a coincidence. But thought I would mention it.

Yesterday I was off the site for 15 minutes, day before that it was 10 minutes. For me it gets worse by the day, at 5pm sharp :/

On this, why is it only being upgraded to 3.8? Surely it's a waste of money only for somewhere down the line when FFF needs to be upgraded again to the latest version [available now] and another VB license will need to be bought.

I have no idea what you are talking about bro. I have not been informed which version, nor has Mitsuki. I think it's safe to say we are moving beyond 3.8, hence the reason the RPG is currently in the transitional process.

There will be a lot of change in the weeks/months to come.

I heard rumors around the forums that it was being upgraded to 3.8... :hmmm: But if we can go beyond that excellent! Thanks for the info Tyler!

Well let's put the rumors to rest. Upgrade will occur, but be patient. We have no version that we are aware of unless LG himself announces it, which he did mention something in regards to 3.8.x with the RPG. Currently the staff is in the dark and speculation can only occur. There is nothing set in stone.

LG has a lot on his hands at the current moment. The only thing for sure is if the lag persists we will move to a new server. So stop spreading rumors, they don't help, only get ignorance spread about. (not trying to be mean :jtc:) But for an owner of a site, a lot is to take into account here.

Data migration + Archives + depending on if it's housed on a SQL 2005 or SQL 2008/Apache Linux server, might be more maintenance involved. So just hold your horses.. we'll see what occurs.

UPGRADE TO 4.0

:awesome: No but really this is awesome. I just had a 10/15 min lag and if an upgrade would fix (surely it will) then there's no reason not to. Not to mention all the minor potential upgrade features we'll get in addition.

Thanks for being patient with me-- us throughout this whole ordeal over an upgrade. :wacky:

You know I didn't have lag until I said I didn't have lag.

So maybe if I say I have lag, it will reverse and I won't have it?

As for the update, I'll be completely honest, and say...I have no clue what any of that means, but...is it pretty?

I got told it was in a thread in HQ, I can't say that it is or isn't in HQ for obvious reasons but if it isn't I can only presume that it was a genuine mistake. I intended to ask more questions about it when I was told but the site literally went down at the exact point of being told which version.

Yea, we went over it because of Crimson Wolf with the RPG upgrades, and LG's response to him, though since then quite a few things have been talked about because of all the server load lately. (still not sure what's been causing it).

If we do move to 3.8, I can only assume it's because of the RPG stability, but from what I knew we are looking into other RPG software, so 4.0 is still a .. "hopeful"

I hope it didn't seem reactant, :jtc:, I just hope folks stop griefing over the lag. Steps are being made to reduce it. We'll see what happens, server has been bought, that's all I'm aware of.

Yeah alot of errors happened throughout the day. After our normal time of lag server busy messages were popping up like crazy and then we got an hour databse error or so. Good to know that the new server has been bought though. Hopefully 4.0. Thanks again Tyler.

Who the hell changed my thread title? :hmph:

I've still been experiencing the most horrible lag. No specific timing for me, just... lag all over the place. Page errors a lot as well. :ffs:

I kept getting the server is busy message, quite irritating really, but oh well it's only temporary right? I haven't experienced anything like this for a while on here so it doesn't bother me much.

Any time any mention of an upgrade has been brought up over the past few years the main issue seems to be the RPG. I don't see why the RPG is a must straight away, if there's one compatible with 4.0 then great, if not then can it not just wait until there is one released or is replaced with something else or similar. It's just my opinion but surely the RPG should be installed and built around the site and not the other way around?

But the lag is horrible. :(

As for the RPG and the SB, the features don't even have support anymore, since Inferno no longer exists. It would be best, for the site, to have packages that actually have support, so that if there are bugs, they can be fixed. Both have known bugs, which we just live with.

I worked on the RPG on here for several years, it was frustrating working around the package's limitations. Also, I've noticed interest in it has gone away.

As for the lag, I can always do other stuff. :neomon:

Closing this thread. A new update has coming through, that we will be moving servers in the next week. This will hopefully resolve the lag issues.

We will also be looking into upgrading to 3.8 at the same time. I appreciate the wait folks, and give a big thanks to LG!
