Interesting thread. I think either of the sentiments expressed by Yuna would be a nice way to end the game.

Having her say "Thank You" at the end of the game, it shows how much Yuna appreciates Tidus and how much he's changed her life, but by saying "I love you" it can also show just how much Yuna loves what Tidus has done for her, and it shows her own feelings towards him.

I think "Thank You" shows a future where Yuna can be happy without Tidus, while having her say "I Love you" shows that she needs Tidus to be truly happy, and for me anyway, adds a lot more emotion to the ending.

I voted "I Love You". To me, it sounded a bit better, prolly cos that's what I am used to. Another thing to remember why the two versions said something diff is the lip syncing to Yuna's lip movement. Just like in anime when the Americans dub it, they write the script to where the words fit as close to the lip movement as possible while making the story stay close to the original Japanese script.

I think she should have said both. Thank him for all he's done and then tell him how she feels about him.

But if I had to choose between them, I'd choose the "I love you" line. It really put emphasis on how tragic the ending was. That she'd finally confessed it in words (although it was obvious at that point anyway), and then he had to go.

I know it's after the ending but X-2 makes it pretty clear Yuna loves him. This isn't real life. In a fantasys etting and game, love can bloom exceptionally quickly.
Also Tidus and Yuna's relationship was a huge part of their development. They flirted from the time they met and then the Spring scene...it was blatantly obvious it was supposed to be a love story so saying I love you fits just well.

the world doesnt exactly run the way it does here..also the emotions..Yuna did love him an was in love with him..you can just tell from the whole two games..she never gave up to search for him

But I think "I love you" was a better choice. In the end,I believe he knew that she was thankful for everything that he had done and helped her with. But by saying "I love you", it signifies that she did love him but was also thankful and wanted to make sure he knew this before he 'faded'. He may or may not have known that she loved him. I think it could be questionable for him to realize that,even though during the spring fmv they both showed strong feelings for each other. Usually though,you can tell when someone is thankful for the things that you do,but to tell that someone loves you is usually harder. You can think that they love you,but when you say it,that usually makes it clear. (Unless you are just someone who throws around the world without meaning).

So yeah,I believe "I love you" was the best thing for her to say. I think it's so sweet that even though he was fading and may never see her again,she wanted to make sure he knew that she loved him.

I think that Thank you, might have had more impact on me than I love you, Her loving him was just something that was obvious, she'd be thanking him for everything. I guess Im not just that lovey dovey to feel 'awwww' over her saying I love You, but if it was thank you, Id probably dissolve and bawl my eyes out, thats what I think anyway xD

Yes i quite understand where your coming from...
but maybe..deep within her heart she wanted him to know how much she did love him before he disappeared forever....Thanking him was something obvious..Why wouldnt you feel thankfull for saving her life as well as making the world stay at peace from sin???
It was kinda already out there about how thankful she was to him...But loving him..was something else..something that was only between their little world...so when she said i love you...it let everyone know their relationship...and it Told Tidus "Thank you and I love you" also that she would miss him dearly...In my opinion..if i was in Yuna's shoes i would've said i love you too...wouldnt you?

to the women..as shown in the beginning..so i think he could easily work his way into Yuna's interests

My general thoughts are that the phrase "I love you" is too overused anyway, not just in TV and games etc but also in real life. But you are entirely correct..Today people say " i love you" and dont mean it and just wanna decieve and lie to them..{ so they can get what they want} Both guys and girls do that...But Yuna and Tidus were actually in-love...thus, i believe...they used the word correctly and should've kept it

Wow, this is hard. I ended up not voting...I couldn't decide. I lean towards "Thank you" for the same reasons a lot of people mentioned...that it somehow conveys a deeper meaning. Maybe it's because for the Western culture and perhaps European culture, "I love you" is used in so many different situations and by so many people that it sort of loses that deeper meaning. But for "Thank you" to be uttered as her last words to him...I think that is what makes the words so profound. There is so much meant in them.

On the other hand, the romantic in me does like to know that Tidus is aware she loves him before he disappears haha. But honestly, I think they were well aware they loved each other. I think it wasn't really necessary to say. So, I guess I vote for "Thank you."

EDIT: I finished reading through the end of the thread, and now I just don't know...Everyone made good points about both phrases being implied in Tidus' and Yuna's actions and the magnitude of all they had just been through. Either one could be assumed. I think, even if Yuna had been completely silent, both Tidus and Yuna would have known how the other felt. To say anything wasn't really necessary, perhaps. But sometimes it is harder to say "I love you" to someone...but then I bounce back to thinking it's implied and that "Thank you" conveys more, but then I think that's pretty implied, too, but... I'm just gonna stick with "Thank you."

I think 'thank you' and 'I love you' are equally good, although 'thank you' makes Yuna's journey in X-2 all the more important because she hasn't yet told Tidus how she feels.

Both 'thank you' and 'I love you' mean more in the given context (Tidus leaving at the end of FFX) than they do literally. I believe that the two convey the same message:

• You saved my life. I will always be grateful.
• If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have been able to continue smiling. You were always there to support me.
• I love you.

However, when Yuna says 'thank you,' her thanks is more explicit whilst her love is implicit. When she tells Tidus 'I love you,' her romantic feelings are explicit and her thanks is implicit.

I wouldn't necessarily say that one is deeper than the other. I guess 'thank you' suggests that the words 'I love you' aren't needed. Yuna and Tidus already know how the other feels; the two love one another beyond words. However, I would still argue that the words 'I love you' are important. Yuna believes she won't see Tidus again... Saying those words in that final moment make them mean something.

'I love you' actually carries additional meaning in the context of Tidus never returning. Yuna is acknowledging the fact that she'll never see him again. Even though she's reserved, her feelings are too important to leave to interpretation. She wants to be explicit about how she feels because she will never get the chance to live with Tidus and show him how she feels through her actions. Tidus has done more for Yuna than she can ever do for him in the future. Tidus is disappearing... There's no time left. She has to tell him so that he knows without a shadow of a doubt that her feelings for him transcend everything else.

I prefer 'I love you'. Normally I would have thought 'thank you' be more appropriate, because they already knew how each other felt, it didn't need to be said. But this was their final moment, she was never going to see him again, there's nothing more important in that final goodbye than to tell him she truely loved him, he knew she did and he knew she was grateful, but between speaking her love or speaking her thanks I would much rather see her say she loved him, because it's something that needs to be said to someone you love when you'll never get another chance. It's something she'd always regret not saying, whereas 'thank you' just isn't as personal, it's not as meaningfull or as powerfull. So I would say I prefer her saying 'I love you'.
