I was thinking about this a few days ago.
Would the characters from non-voiced Final Fantasies (I-IX) resonate with as many people had they been voiced by an actor?
Its like reading a book and seeing a movie for me. Almost every movie based on a book has let me down in someway because nothing in reality is ever as good as I imagined it. The written word allows my mind to impose my own thoughts, basis, personality and inflection on the dialogue, characters and situations.
So my question is this:
Would the 'annoying' characters of Final Fantasy be less annoying if they weren't voice acted and vice versa?
Would the 'strong' characters be weaker if they weren't voice acted and vice versa?
For example: Would Vanille be as annoying in text as she is in sound? I know that who is doing the voice plays a MASSIVE role in the character - but I think the topic is still very interesting to discuss.

I actually like the voice acting in Final Fantasy. Despite my own love for books and using my imagination, it makes me feel closer to the characters. I view them more as people - the voices make them feel established and gives them a set personality. I feel the voice acting in FFX - XIII-2 was strong, though Vanille's voice is certainly a little...strange. ;)

I wouldn't mind seeing voice acting for the earlier FFs, although the characters from VII to IX already have established personalities in my mind. :lew: They're just a little more hazy than the personalities of characters like Yuna, Lulu, Basche, Serah and Noel. :hmmm:

I think most people would dislike the voices of the VA's of older FF titles. When you read texts etc. or scripts with personalities involved, you will aways imagine your own perspective of it. You can imagine your own tiny details and quirks of how the main character should or could be.

Everyone has a different perspective ofcourse. To those that already have been established in our minds, as Lirael mentioned, it would be very difficult to capture the same level of personality voice wise.

Ok so we got Advent Children :hmmm:

I cant say how I really thought about the VA's, but I think it was believable for that situation in the movie.

Those voices in a FF7 remake how would that feel? No idea tbh. :lew:

For FFX I was blown away by the story and VA's. FFX was topnotch imo.
And the effect of Voice contributed a lot to that.

I like to read it... I think it's good to have both... I would love a game that gave you the option of voice or text. (subtitles don't count) I dunno, I'm not really bothered either way. I agree that reading allows you to fill in the blanks, and I also agree that sometimes it's good to have a solidly built voiced character... So there ya go. I'm on the fence and staying here.
