This is to discuss The Avengers and any other films attached, including:
Iron Man (May 2, 2008)
The Incredible Hulk (June 13, 2008)
Ant-Man (TBA)
Iron Man 2 (April 30, 2010)
Thor (June 4, 2010)
The First Avenger: Captain America (May 6, 2011)
The Avengers (2011)
and any other possible tie-in films or spin-offs.

Discuss characters, actors, story, anything relating to these films.

While Iron Man 2 and the actual Avengers movies are the ones I'm most interested in seeing I'm looking forward to seeing how Ant-Man pans out since Edgar Wright is the director for that. I'll be even more excited if Alan Tudyk gets the part which seems to be a popular suggestion at the moment.

It would be so awesome if they can actually pull all this off well.

Hank Pym (Ant-Man) was a douche who could never decide on a power/costume/super hero moniker (Ant-Man, Giant Man, Goliath, & Yellowjacket)...and he was a wife-beater of the world's smallest woman (speaking of which...no love for Wasp in the poll?)...>_<

Thor's had his ups & downs...mostly not-so-greats...but he's one of the most powerful of the Avengers ever (and that's a huge fucking roster)...

The Hulk...was an Avenger for all of like, what? 1 & 1/2 issues? He's too much of a loose cannon even under the tutelage of the Cap. But I haven't seen the new Incredible Hulk, so maybe they've...calmed him down...?? Given Bruce more control...?

I can't help but think of how much of an ass Tony Stark was during Civil War (but "Password: Surprise!", which really needed him being an ass, really made me appreciate Peter Parker again)...

The Cap is the Cap. He's not really "badass"...but he always knows what he's doing & how to get it done. He would be promoted if General America didn't sound so stupid. >_>

You act like you don't have high expectations for this movie, at least thats what i was thinking when I read your post

I think this is an interesting step forward for Superhero movies... To actually combine the universes together liek they should be, instead of making each character in each movie seem seperate. The Avengers movie I am realy looking forward to. I want to see how it turns out.. I think that its a good idea that they are already setting it up with the movies at the moment (Starks cameo in Incredible Hulk, and also the serum linking back to Cap, and the appearance of Fury at the end of Iron Man)... This way it should be done pretty smoothly...

I realy want them to make the Captain America film to be set in WW2 though.. They were his glory days, and as far as solo films go I think that would realy make a good story... He coudl fight Red Skull and Hitler himself with his pal Bucky.. The film could end, or towards the end, when he is recovered form the ocean and enters the modern day.

No, I didn't intend my post like that. I was basically going through a rundown of the characters. The Cap is cool in his own way, as are the Avengers themselves. The vast array of characters & their unique, individual personalities are what really make the team interesting.

Yeah, I'm doubting they'll be true to the Cap's origins...I'm betting they'll replace Nazis with Al-Queda or something stupid like that...That part I certainly have little hopes for...But fighting Nazis does always sell, right...? Hmmm...It'll be interesting to see what direction they go with Steve...

Well I hope they do go down the WW2 route, as a Red Skull in a turban with a long beard will suck.. Well actually, I guess it will look *different* but... Meh.

Also, I don't see why they can't go down the WW2 route, as it shouldn't conflcit with the story much if he is frozen in the North Atlantic and discovered in modern day at the end of the film and brought back. Could be done.

But yeah, Captain America and Thor are the two I'm most interested in. Captain America, because I want to know which direction they will take. And Thor because I am interested in who they will cast for the character, and the way they'll incorporate the Asgardians into the Marvel film universe.

The Captain America and Avengers movies intrigue me the most. We've already gotten a taste of what an Iron Man movie will be like, though I'm definitely eager to see the sequel, the Hulk movie didn't do a whole lot for me, and Ant Man really doesn't appeal much. Neither does Thor, really.

i would have to say that Iron man is the best of the named avengers as he has his awesum colour scheme and amazing flight capability he is rich (well his alter ego is) and did i mention the awesum magnet thing that stops him from dieing, i mean cummon how awesum is that having a power supply instead of a heart beat

They're bringing back all the star power from these recent movies back, right? Robert Downy & Edward Norton? I wonder how much more money they'll have for other star actors...Hmmmm...I smell relative unknowns on the Avengers horizon! >_<

As Marvel Studios powers up to begin production on its next highly anticipated slate of films, the studio has made an agreement with Raleigh Studios to film each of Marvel's next four films at Raleigh's facility in Manhattan Beach, CA.
The four projects to be produced at the studio facility over the next three years include "Iron Man 2," "Thor," The First Avenger: Captain America" and "The Avengers."
Keeping these four major tent pole film productions in Southern California allows the studio access to outstanding crews and resources and makes Marvel the largest tenant on the Raleigh lot.
Additionally, Marvel Studios will move its Beverly Hills-based executive and production offices to Raleigh's facility in Manhattan Beach.
"In making this deal with Raleigh to produce our upcoming films at the Manhattan Beach Studios, we are most excited about keeping our film production here in California and taking advantage of the best crews in the Los Angeles area," said Louis D'Esposito, Marvel's President of Physical Production. "All of our production partners on these upcoming films have been incredibly accommodating in terms of their creativity and financial structures, allowing us to remain in California. Raleigh Studios has long been known for the superior quality of its film production facilities and we know that Manhattan Beach will be the ideal location to produce our movies to the highest standards that our fans expect."
"We are thrilled that we were able to find a way to make this deal work for Marvel," said Michael Moore, Raleigh Studios President. "We could not have asked for a greater compliment than having a quality company like Marvel put their faith in us to provide a home for its film productions."
The Marvel live action releases to be filmed at Raleigh Manhattan Beach Studios are scheduled to arrive in theaters beginning in 2010 and going through 2011. Specifically the release dates are "Iron Man 2" on May 7, 2010; "Thor" on July 16, 2010; "The First Avenger: Captain America" on May 6, 2011; and "The Avengers" on July 15, 2011.

The First Avenger: Captain America

We already confirmed back in May after Marvel's announcement of The First Avenger: Captain America that the film would be set in WWII. But an actual plot synopsis beyond that hasn't ever been released. In the latest issue of Production Weekly, a new full plot synopsis for the project was published. I'm a bit hesitant to trust this magazine, since they seem to have a lot of information on a project that's very far out, but for now this is what we'll go with. It does seem accurate and it does seem like a great way to introduce us to Captain America before progressing into The Avengers movie just months later.

"Born during the Great Depression, Steve Rogers grew up a frail youth in a poor family. Horrified by the newsreel footage of the Nazis in Europe, Rogers was inspired to enlist in the army. However, because of his frailty and sickness, he was rejected. Overhearing the boy's earnest plea, General Chester Phillips offered Rogers the opportunity to take part in a special experiment… Operation: Rebirth. After weeks of tests, Rogers was at last administered the 'Super-Soldier Serum' and bombarded by 'vita-rays.' Steve Rogers emerged from the treatment with a body as perfect as a body can be and still be human. Rogers was then put through an intensive physical and tactical training program. Three months later, he was given his first assignment as Captain America. Armed with his indestructible shield and and battle savvy, Captain America has continued his war against evil both as a sentinel of liberty and leader of the Avengers."

Reading that actually makes me wonder whether they just took the standard synopsis from some sort of Marvel database and used that until the studio puts out something officially. Either way, I'm glad that they're sticking with the original Captain America story and going all the way back to WWII. That should make for the perfect introduction just months before we move into the Avengers story. No director or actors have been officially announced yet. The First Avenger: Captain America will hit theaters on May 6th, 2011 with its follow-up, The Avengers hitting theaters on July 15th, 2011. Will you be ready by 2011?

Well, that first part...who cares? But that second part, while it DOES seem iffy to have such info on a movie planned for all the way in 2011, all hopes pointing to WWII Cap seems good to me...stupid ass title, though. I know it's to hype the Avengers movie that'll be coming out after it, but it just seems unnecessary..."The First Avenger"...I'd have preferred "Sentinel of Liberty"...>_>

They FAILED HORRIBLY with an Avengers TV animated series before on FOX KIDS.

Hopefully this new series will do much better.

Marvel Animation, a division of Marvel Entertainment, announced today the production of an all new animated series, "The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes." Production on 26 half-hour episodes is already underway using the production services of Film Roman, producer of "The Simpsons" and "King of the Hill."

The new series, expected to be available for broadcast in 2011, continues on Marvel's already impressive television line-up which includes the all-new "Wolverine and the X-Men" and "Iron Man: Armored Adventures" series that will both debut on Nicktoons in 2009. Marvel Animation will also debut the all-new series "Marvel Super Hero Squad" and "The Black Panther" next year.

"The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes" is an all-new property featuring some of Marvel's all-time favorite characters including Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, Thor, Giant Man and Wasp. When the planet is threatened by super villains, time traveling conquerors, alien invaders, mythical monsters and mad robots bent on the total destruction of humanity, when forces of evil are so overwhelming that no single hero has the power to save the world, when there is no hope left…the Avengers assemble!
Also to note, Marvel commented saying that this new line of new Animated shows will go along with each of the new live action films being produced. Hmmm, I wonder how that'll work out.

What's the meaning of this?:

Captain America Officially Found in The Incredible Hulk! and Iron Man

I'm usually good with seeing these things. lol these were extra hard to see, so I missed it :/

"Marvel Super Hero Squad"...Wow...that's...so stupid sounding...Should have just done a Marvel Team-Up animated show or something...or maybe The Defenders! ^_^

I hope they still make more of the Ultimate animated movies.

Very interesting bit of news today! Terrence Howard, who played Col. James Rhodes in Iron Man earlier this summer, has decided not to reprise the role for the sequel. Don Cheadle will step in to replace him in the upcoming Iron Man 2 which is currently in pre-production. Apparently Howard decided not to return due to "financial differences, among other reasons." Marvel then decided to take the role in another direction and approached Don Cheadle. Might that other direction eventually be a War Machine spin-off? Rhodes is expected to play a larger part in the sequel, which is rumored to "go beyond high-tech villains." Huh? There are some rather intriguing statements being made about Iron Man 2 tonight.
This sounds similar to what happened with Rachel Dawes' replacement in The Dark Knight. Except Cheadle doesn't seem like as smooth as a transition, especially when I was a huge fan of Howard and couldn't wait to see his version of War Machine. Interesting observation, however, is that Howard has never actually had a major leading role in any film (give or take Hustle & Flow). But Cheadle on the other hand definitely has, although I don't think that necessarily makes him any more qualified. This might just mean they're leaning towards the idea of the War Machine spin-off down the line. Either way, I'm not that excited for this change, especially because I really loved Terrence Howard as Rhodes in Iron Man.
Fans will certainly remember that scene near the end when Rhodes looks at the Mark II armor in Tony Stark's lab and mutters "next time." Interestingly, Howard made a revealing statement back in May regarding War Machine: "The question is whether we will take the time to put on the Iron Man suit first and then have to fight with Iron Man to take it off me and then ultimately build a new suit for Rhodey or whether they go right into the second one of them building the suit. I would prefer to wait for the third one. I'd prefer to let it grow a little bit and then after the third one, they could go into its own franchise of War Machine later on. I don't want to introduce War Machine too early for my own monetary benefits."
All I can say right now is that I'm very weary of this switch. What do you think of this? Will Don Cheadle be able to fill Terrence Howard's shoes and eventually lead a War Machine spin-off?
