ColumbiaPictures announced today that the title of the next Spider-Man film will be The Amazing Spider-Man.

The studio simultaneously released a photo of Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man, the first shot of Garfield in the famous full mask and suit.

The film, which is now in production and is being shot entirely in 3D, will be released on July 3, 2012. The film stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Campbell Scott, Irrfan Khan, Martin Sheen, and Sally Field. The film is directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt and Alvin Sargent and Steve Kloves based on the Marvel Comic Book by StanLee and Steve Ditko. Laura Ziskin, Avi Arad, and Matt Tolmach are producing the Marvel Entertainment production for Columbia Pictures. The executive producers are Stan Lee, Kevin Feige, and Michael Grillo.

The film's official website is TheAmazingSpiderMan-movie.com.

I'm pretty excited about this film for a number of reasons, first of all the cast is very strong. Garfield is a far better actor than Tobey Maguire(Whom I hate, with his big stupid face), not to mention Emma Stone is far hotter and much more talented than Kirsten Dunst(yes I know they're playing different roles). That they're going with a storyline that's truer to the comics is refreshing and interesting, and I think it'll really work out well for the film.

The only thing I am disappointed about is that I thought Willem DaFoe as Norman Osborne, James Franco as Harry Osborne, and J.K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson were all sublime, so I'll miss them in the new film. Also I'm not sure if the actress playing Aunt May is too young or not

this wasn't announced today, the title and first production stills were released quite a while back.

i'm glad it's getting a proper reboot, after the failure of the last ones. james cameron managed to totally fuck up the character of peter parker. i'm not sure about rhys ifans as dr. connor though, that seems like a weird one...
