Chapter 0- Blood stained memories…
Several footsteps are heard sprinting through the hallways of the Palace of Seles. A thunderous night occurred which had an array of lightning soaring all over the skies, and it was almost as if the heavens themselves were at war. His heart beat faster than ever; the risk of falling due to exhaustion compromised his safety and yet, he kept pushing himself beyond the limit and continued to run away from the pack of wolves that were in pursuit of him. These wolves were the Palace Guards, which had strict orders of capturing the fugitive, whether it was dead or alive.

The fugitive found himself cornered, guards arriving from all sides, leaving him with no other choices than to attempt to elude them by going up stairs. Sweating, the man placed his man on the wall as he gasped for air, panting, eyes widened, heart beating even faster. As he summed up his will, the man went upstairs and arrived finally to the roof of an old tower, hoping to escape from this relentless pursuit. High above the tower though, he found yet another obstacle that prevented him from achieving the freedom he so desired. The fugitive recognized this man as his former comrade, now turned his nemesis.

These two men were once entangled in a poisonous vendetta, which now ended up being brought to this tower in hopes for this mad rivalry to end. The roof was large enough to give them enough space to move freely without being too concerned about falling; still the danger of being tossed into the abyss was latent for it could be the fate of any of these two. One of the warriors was clad with a breastplate, and he was wearing long black pants, leather boots, a long trench coat and black gauntlets. His weapon of choice was a two handed long sword which was fairly light for its size. This man had mysterious look on his face; his eyes were a pale brown and they had a distinctive faint malicious green light on his irises, his face was pale, his eyebrows were thin, his nose was fair in size –not too big and not too small- and he was wearing his hair long to his shoulders. His hair was dark brown, wet due to the rain and falling over his forehead, partially covering his eyes yet they did not limit his sight.

The other man was even more intriguing, for he was covered by a long black coat, and only his young face was exposed. The man had emerald grayish eyes, long bluish silver hair, thin eyebrows, small pointy nose and small ears. His weapon of choice was quite peculiar; it was a bizarre sword shaped like a bat wing, with a blue jewel that resemblance a dragon’s eye embedded on the hand guard. The man called this sword “Way to Dawn”, and he wielded it masterfully against his opponent.

The battle indeed was a bloody one; both fighters unloaded all they had against each other. Their swords constantly met each other, clashing again and again letting out sparks of fearsome lights that illuminated the darkened skies alongside with the sudden lightning that came once a while. In the midst of battle, the two fighters pressed their swords forward; the steel of their swords came in contact as they blocked each other as the same time. Both warriors struggled to push the other against the edge, yet their seemingly equal strength made it a difficult task to fulfill.

It all seemed as if this battle were going to continue eternally until it happened. Suddenly, the man carrying the “Way to Dawn” was able to disarm his opponent, following up by aiming his sword straight to the unarmed man’s throat. The now helpless opponent stared coldly at him, always so defiant even to the very end.

-“Why? Why did you betray us?”- The man demanded answers as he shortened the distance between the tip of his sword and his opponent’s neck. Silence, a silence so unbearable that would drive even the sanest of men into madness was all that he obtained. Before the man could force his opponent to speak, he was interrupted by a young lady. She was beautiful, all dressed in white and red; she had long ponytail, green eyes, milky skin, in summary, a true angel.

Surprised, the once unarmed man took up this chance to free himself from his once tight spot, and as he retrieved his long sword from floor, he recovered and took a defensive stance, aiming his sword to his opponent.

-“Riku! Stop please for goodness sake!”- The woman cried out almost as if she were defending her own flesh and blood. The man in the black coat who was wearing the bizarre blade lowered his weapon and sighed, disappointed to see that she was still willing to defend the traitor. Then a man clad in a black body suit and steel armour arrived with a group of soldiers wearing rifles and swords. The man seemed to be an important officer, wearing a long and magnificent black cape that was caught by the wind. This man’s presence was surely threatening, his face marked by an “X” shaped scar that covered some of his forehead and cheeks. His menacing dark yellow eyes were fixed on what he thought was a treacherous dog standing between Riku and the young lady.

-“So you did had the guts to come back after all, a shame you just came to be captured and placed on trial. Now guards! Seize him! ”- The guards carefully approached the fugitive, their rifles always aimed at him. –“Saix, NO!! There has to be another way!!!”- The woman cried out as she stood before the criminal, preventing the guards from moving any closer. -“Your capacity to be so merciful is sometimes astonishing and at the same time quite a nuisance, yet I am not obviously like you, Lady Aerith, and I will not show an ounce of leniency to this traitor. You see, I have no mercy left to share…”- Saix claimed ever so righteous, so defiant, for he had a thirst for justice and revenge that was demanding to be satisfied.

-“I never expected it Saix…”- The criminal replied with disgust as he stepped back closer to the edge of the tower. The man looked over his right shoulder and stared down to the abyss, and then he brought his eyes back to Saix. Meanwhile, Aerith remained standing before him, shielding his life from the guards. Saix smirked, as he raised his left hand and snapped his fingers. -“Riku, take Aerith…now…”-

Riku nodded as he withdrew his blade, banishing into the darkness and then he quickly grabbed Aerith to take her out of the way. Now matter how much she struggled, Aerith was helplessly restrained and forced to bear witness of what it seemed to be the preparation for an execution.

-“Any last words…”- Saix asked with a mocking tone, to which, the fugitive man replied with defiance. -“You bastard….I hope you realize someday the unfair mistake you are committing…you know as well as I do that I am innocent….”- Saix smiled amused to see that the man was still so arrogant to stand before them claiming to be innocent. –“Oh really? Odd indeed, because they all seem to claim the same….”- Without losing any more precious time, Saix gave the order to attack. The man gave Saix a cold stare as he prepared to face the group of guards before him.
-“You know Saix, why don’t you face me alone if you have the guts?!”-

Saix smirked, as he snapped his fingers ordering his men to halt their attack. Suddenly, Saix drew his blade and walked towards the fugitive; his cold stare sinking deep into that man’s eyes. –“Ah your arrogance amuses me, yet I am very much tempted to shove this sword straight through your heart. Let’s see what you can do…if you lose, you die…”-

Without any more delay Saix burst through the battlefield and swung his sword madly against the fugitive swordsman. His sword clashing against his opponent’s blade; with each strike, Saix managed to push his opponent away with swift moves and powerful strikes. The man was exhausted, and in this condition he was obviously no match for Saix, yet he still managed to block most of the attacks while eluding the others.

Desperate to find a way to reduce the advantage Saix had over him, the man attacked recklessly thrusting his blade towards Saix’s left shoulder. Saix grinned as he eluded the attack gracefully with a side step to the right, and at the same time. As the man’s attack missed, he felt himself being drawn by the blade and left in a vulnerable position. Saix sighted this opportunity and, having summed up enough strength, he gave out a fierce blunt blow with his left fist towards the fugitive’s abdominal area. The blow made the man fall down to his knees, his hands placed then on the ground as he kept gasping for air. Saix smirked as he lifted his sword and aimed it near the back of the man’s neck, almost as if he were readying to decapitate him. Lady Aerith’s eyes widened as she feared for the man’s life, and so she desperately begged Saix to forgive him. Saix ignored her as he thought of a good reason to stop him from beheading this man. Finally Saix withdrew his sword and sheathed it, turning his back on the man and heading towards Lady Aerith.

-“He has lost...men…you know what to do…”- Saix said with a grim satisfaction shown on his face. The guards nodded as they aimed their rifles to the fugitive. –“Vae Victis….Woe to the conquered…”-

Saix pronounced this old phrase as he closed his eyes and waited for the execution to be carried out. On the other side of the battlefield, the weakened fugitive slowly brought himself back to his feet, clinging to the hilt of his blade. Not willing to give up, the man gave out a fierce battle cry and went straight to Saix hoping to strike his nemesis down. The man heard the sound of his own heart beats echoing within his ears as he shortened the distance between his foe and his blade. At the same time, the guards prepared to shot him down.

Suddenly…boom….the first sound of a bullet coming out of the rifle and piercing the man’s left shoulder, then a second bullet and a third. The man fought his best yet unfortunately, he was no match for the heavily armed guards as they kept unloading their rifles on him. The second array of bullets stopped him in his tracks, and then the following ones hit his right and again his left shoulders, pushing him back violently. Blood burst from the wounds, scattered all over the place as the man was sent against the edge. Saix then raised his left hand, commanding his men to stop. The criminal stood at the verge of the abyss, panting, clinging to his sword, bleeding and coughing, soaked by both his own blood and the rain that fell over him.

Just as the man lifted his blade to unleash his counter attack, Saix ordered his men to fire once more. The first guard shot the man’s left leg, which forced him to fall on both knees. The second guard shot his left shoulder, and the last guard dealt five consecutive shots on the man’s chest. The man gave out a faint cry, and then he stood up, he slowly walked back, his feet stumbling, his sight was weakening, and he felt his life leaving his body. With the last ounce of will, he raised his left hand and aimed it to Lady Aerith, almost as if he were trying to reach her. Finally the swordsman submitted to the wounds and then he fell from the tower, disappearing into the abysmal darkness.

Lady Aerith then struggled once more until she broke free from Riku’s arms, and then she ran off to the edge to see if he had survived, but unfortunately, his body was lost deep within the mist below. -“It is done…Riku, let us leave this place…”- Riku and the others left the tower yet Saix remained, waiting for Lady Aerith. The high commander approached the saddened lady, and with utmost care, he lifted her from the ground and embraced her with his arms. -“Let’s go Aerith….there’s nothing left for you here…”-

“You know as well as I do that it was the right thing to do…he was out of control…” Saix said as he helped Lady Aerith walk down stairs. She felt destroyed and guilty because she was unable to help that unfortunate man. As the last two left the tower, the rain started to end, the clouds darkening the sky began to disperse, and for the first time during this cruel night, the warm light of the stars could be seen illuminating the Palace of Seles. As the night faded in the darkness, several questions were left unanswered:

Who was this man?
What did he do to deserve such fate?
Was he still alive?

Nice story Julius, really enjoyed the read... I did spot a spelling error though that you may want to change. :neomon:

–“Vae Victis….Wow to the conquered…”-

And btw, I'm thinking of joining this story, however, when coming up with a character, anything in particular I'd need to put in? Such as personality, combat capability, weapon of choice etc... Odds are I'll end up PM'ing you the character in case I go overboard. :wacky:

Chapter 1: Facing our actions…

Several months after Saix carried out the execution, the tension provoked by the sudden death of one of kingdom’s finest officers began to rip apart the whole royal court from its very foundation. Saix, who had so eagerly waited for this opportunity, slowly began to amass his personal armies to be prepared for the imminent civil war that was bound to commence at any moment. Meanwhile, several members of the court, including High General Koloth, have been demanding answers concerning the incident that took place at the tower of Seles. Since that night, Lady Aerith had not talked, keeping a seemingly endless mourning for her loss. This also enraged Koloth, for he was like a father to Lady Aerith ever since her parents disappeared 20 years ago during the war that almost ripped apart the kingdom, and the last thing he wanted to see, was a daughter of his being reduce of a simple depressive shell. With all the problems that have been bashing against the court and the streets of the royal city, it was evident that the downfall of the kingdom was near.

As per request of most of the court members, Saix did indeed give out his report on the incident, and of course, his men were summoned to testify. The meeting was in the Hall of Justice, also known as the Great Hall, one of the oldest of the rooms in the Palace of Seles. Several murals on walls depicted the years of raging wars while others portrayed the prosperity and joy that he kingdom had much enjoyed so far. The dominant style of the decoration was a mixture of Gothic, Neo Classical, Elizabethan, English, and Tudor; most of the things were arranged and set on their specific locations, keeping orderliness and beauty.

A grandstand was seen at the end of the hall, the judges sitting behind and staring down to the summoned officials and nobles who were arriving. The nobles and officials sat on the bleachers and waited for the trial to begin. Hours passed, and Saix easily slipped through this ordeal as all the proofs and testimonies pointed out that it wasn’t his fault, or at least, that’s what they wanted the judges to believe. Lady Aerith was summoned to testify as well, but regardless of what she said about the execution being carried out mercilessly and cruelly, her words had little effect.

Much more, Saix’s soldiers said that the lady was biased by her feelings, and that they only stroke down a criminal who was a potential threat against the kingdom. Most of the court believed the story, Lady Aerith was indeed disappointed, but Koloth, he did not believe an ounce of the carefully orchestrated drama he was forced to listen back there. The trial was dismissed, Saix had emerged victorious and so he left the grand hall.

As Saix and his guards left the Hall of Justice, Koloth stood up as well and proceeded to follow Saix. Unfortunately, the elusive Saix was hard to follow and therefore Koloth gave up following him. Still, Koloth was not willing to swallow the bunch of lies so easily, so he commanded one of Saix’s men to summon him. Koloth was going to meet Saix at the Royal Garden, near the river. The guards delivered the message, and Saix agreed. Another tragedy was about to come…

Chapter 2: Old Legends die hard…

Koloth was standing on the fields of the royal palace, located near the Spatha River (Spatha from Latin which means “sword”). A very fearsome man, Koloth was well known for his skills as a military genius as well as an outstanding swordsman. He was a tall man, almost 6’8”; he had long white beard and mustache, broad white eyebrows and threatening grayish blue eyes. His hair was silky silver with black highlights, and it was combed to the back falling over his shoulders. Koloth was wearing an impressive armour; a breastplate with arcane ruins engraved over the protective plates over his chest and abdominal area. The breastplate had a ruby cut like a diamond and embedded on the very center of the breastplate. His legs were covered by reinforced plates to provide protection to his thighs and shins, and he wore black leather boots reinforced with thin metal sheets.

His weapon of choice was a doubled edged Zweihänder which was a 6 ft long from the base of the pommel to the tip of the blade, with a 1.2–1.5 m (4–5 ft) blade and 30–45 cm (1–1½ ft) hilt. The blade was quite wide, being almost 6 inches wide from edge to edge. The surface of the blade was well polished, with ancient runes engraved on a mirror like surface. The hand guard was also wide, shaped in the form of two triangles with a reddish stone embedded on the very center on both sides of the hand guard. The hand guard connected both the blade and the hilt of the sword, and it was reinforced with a special and strong alloy composed of Titanium, Orichaicum, Stainless Steel to avoid corrosion, and Mithril.

Most likely known as the “hero of a thousand battles”, the astounding stories of Koloth’s many battles were known throughout the realm, his fame only matched by Saix’s own legacy. Both men were swordsmen of legend, venerated as heroes and even as Gods of War. While Koloth was famous for his unquenchable thirst for justice, Saix was well renowned for his lust for glory and his strong sense of honor, loyalty, and respect.

As Koloth waited for Saix, the hero of a thousand battles somehow knew this encounter would surely alter his fate. The knight stood firmly his arms folded, his eyes fixed on the vivid sun that burned on the reddish orange horizon.

Finally, the sounds of horseshoes stomping the soil could be heard, and Koloth knew it was Saix and his men. Evidently, Saix had arrived, and as he jumped of his sword, he instantly drew his blade and aimed it to Koloth. His eyes filled with discontent, Saix indeed knew that he required to get rid of Koloth as soon as possible, or else all his plans would be compromised if Koloth were to unveil their plot against the king.

-“I know you are there….”- Koloth said as he closed his eyes and smiled. The old knight then turned to meet Saix face to face and fixed his gaze on Saix. –“I know you murdered him because he knew something, didn’t he? And now you come for me because you feel that my presence might be a threat to whatever you are planning…but know this, I will stop you.”- Koloth said with a strong and righteous determination as he unfolded his arms and drew his menacing sword.

-“Ah yes, I see you are always seeing things and making up stories that never exist. Let us be realistic, I don’t like you, and I am sure you don’t like me either...”- Saix said with disgust as he approached Koloth. Saix then made a sudden stop, lifting his blade and aiming the tip of his sword to Koloth’s chest. –“I should have killed you when I had the chance….but that is a mistake I won’t repeat…You don’t know how much I have awaited for this…”- Saix finalized with a comment filled with a poisonous rage that burned deep within his heart.

Koloth sighed and shortly he grasped the hilt of his blade with both hands and he prepared to fight Saix. –“You don’t know either how much I’ll enjoy shoving your face on the mud…where it belongs…ON GUARD!!!”- Koloth said before sprinting towards Saix. The ferocious knight ran to his enemy and unleashed the wrath of his blade on him. Saix gave out as maniacal laugh as he too dashed towards Koloth and swung his blade against his former comrade.

The battle was fierce; the sound of their swords clashing against each other was so threatening and powerful that even Saix’s soldiers felt fear. In the mid of the battle, Koloth launched an all out assault. The old knight stepped back to avoid Saix’s blade, then he leaped back to his opponent spinning like a tornado and swinging his sword along to perform a full circle slash. The attack almost caught Saix off guard, yet Saix was able to lift his blade and place it horizontally before himself. Koloth’s sword crashed against Saix’s might weapon and as a result, powerful and fearsome shockwaves were sent and spread all around them.

Saix then pushed Koloth’s weapon away and then dashed towards Koloth. Almost instantly, the fearsome swordsman launched a powerful straight right kick to Koloth’s abdomen. Koloth was violently sent crashing against a nearby tree. The old knight fell on his knees gasping for air as Saix slowly approached and lifted his blade with the intention of beheading his opponent. –“Oh, it seems you want to join your…“son” soon enough, how about joining him now…in HELL!!!”- Saix smiled widely, showing his sharp teeth as he prepared to bring his sword down to Koloth’s neck. Koloth quickly raised his sight, his eyes burning with an unstoppable determination, and then charged forward, spearing Saix with his right shoulder. Saix was caught by surprised as Koloth lifted him and tossed him against the mud.

-“Yes, I will die someday…but not before you Saix!!! Indeed, he was like a son to me, and I swore on his parents’ grave, and I also promised to Lady Aerith’s parents, that I would protect those two, even if it cost me my life!”- Koloth said with hatred as he looked down to a seemingly defeated Saix. –“You are deceived by your own biased beliefs Saix! Your lust for revenge and power will lead you to destruction…”-

Enraged, Saix searched for his sword and reached the handle, and he rapidly rose back on his feet. –“You know nothing about me or my reasons for hating the royal family!!!”- Saix quickly ran towards Koloth, delivering a powerful left punch to Koloth’s face. Koloth quickly respond by smacking Saix’s chest with the handle of his sword. Both men dropped their weapons and involved themselves in vicious and violent combat. Punches, kicks, blood splattered all over their faces, their skins wearing cuts and bruises as if their were medals of war; the hatred these two men felt towards each other was so powerful, that if they were flames they would easily scorch the whole land.

Unfortunately, their bloodstained encounter was abruptly ended by one of Saix’s soldier. The soldier aimed his rifle to Koloth and unloaded a single bullet that pierced the old knight’s breastplate. Koloth then fell and rolled towards the shore, bleeding and breathing heavily. Saix was enraged and so he walked furiously towards the foolish guard and he thrust his sword towards the guard’s chest. His sword pierced the guard’s armour, ripping bone, flesh and muscles apart. The guard gasped for air as Saix slowly pulled his sword from his chest.

Saix then directed his eyes to Koloth, believing his old nemesis to be dead. Just when the guards were preparing to medically assist Koloth, Saix stopped them. –“Leave him, he is dead….damn it…I didn’t wanted it to end like this. Regardless of how much I hated him, Koloth deserved to die like a warrior…we shall continue our battle…someday in the afterlife…until then…wait for me…brother…”- Saix said disappointed, and then he left with his men towards the castle.

Soon after, Koloth woke up desperately not realizing the battle had ended already. It seemed that the shock knocked him unconscious, and that the bullet never pierced his armour completely. Nevertheless, the pain he had endured had weakened him significantly, and he could barely rise from the ground. Suddenly, Koloth was surrounded by several knights with their faces covered by masks. The masks were oval shaped, with no special traits, and they only had orifices for the eyes.

The pain was unbearable, and Koloth fainted due to exhaustion. The mysterious warriors then approached Koloth. Suddenly, a voice stormed through the scenario.

–“Take him with us…our “leader” will be pleased to see him again…”- The mysterious knights then lifted Koloth’s body and placed him on a stretcher, and then they took him with them..

These men headed towards the forest, and as the day slowly faded away and the night began to embrace the land, Koloth and these mysterious warriors disappeared in the darkness.

Yo Juli! Sweet chapter(s) bro'! Oh and when ya introduce Rene make him the cocky, fun and kind alrighty?

Interesting story, Julius. It really makes me think what will happen next and I've been looking for something different to read for a while. Good job, keep it up!

Rene, you forgot to include "winges at the slightest moment" :wacky:

And Julius, if we are allowed to put specific attributes of our characters could mine be a guy who likes to get a piece of the action and tends to be very cocky and have an incredible ability with knives.

Can't wait for the next chapter!:gasp:

Well I'll introduce two new characters in the next chapter, although I am still deciding which ones I should select.

I was thinking of adding Shadow Mage and Rene Skylar (and it will be SkylarD if you keep calling me Juli :wacky: ) but I need to also make up my mind and decide which one of these two will be one of the bad guys...

Shadow sounds like more of a bad guy name :) Plus if Faith's in it Rene's gotta be a good guy lol.

Oh and if you name me SkylarD, I will forever call you Juli :P
