seriously, seeing as they're event items that serve a purpose in the storyline, shouldn't they be.....erm i dunno... stronger? they BOTH have a strength of 30. 30!? half the weapons you buy from the shops are stronger! (Rank 6-7)

They are weak because you get the both pretty early in the game if I remember, at least one of them anyway. They're also mostly for the looks (imo).
Also, I think you did actually have to hold the item in hand to use it when you needed too, which gave you the feeling you were wielding true power, even though they didn't hit that hard.
I'm guessing it was an attempt to make the gamer feel they were actually doing/winessing the game, as most key items in games you almost NEVER get to see or use yourself.
I was a powerleveler the second time through the game, so my weapons dominated those, still fun to see them in action though.
you not once has to physically wield the sword throughout the entire game, lol.
I just finished my second playthrough (minus Fortress Bahamut, still hunting) and in the cut-scenes Ashe wields both of then hand in hand (2 x 2 handed swords, go figure?)
Not the sword, a crystal (forget the word! :c) must be equipped. Its the one that takes your magic down to "0" I do believe.I thought you had to use one of the swords by equipping it and stepping onto a platform
GalaxyFlare got it right...or at least that's what I had and most of my friends got from it. They were simply there for the purpose of destroying the crystals and looking pretty neat as well xD
I love FF12.
Now I want to play again
